I am a person generally healthy never had a surgery in my life. I went to Dr. Soo for a Herniated Disc problem. On my first appointment, he scheduled me for surgery right away within 2 weeks to help "alleviate my pain." When I went home and talked to my spouse I realized maybe I didn't get enough information or details. Surgery anywhere near the spine is a scary thing-especially for someone that never had surgery. I decided to come back with my spouse this time with a list of prepared questions. When we got there, we were told we would be seen soon. We waited 2 hours! The receptionist apologized and said that he is double and triple booked-she even showed me his schedule on the computer. Finally when we were escorted to Dr. Soo's office, there was a panel of students in their with him to "watch." At no point did he even explain why these 6 residents or trainees were there. I was already frazzled by the whole idea of surgery, and now I had an an audience of students to watch me. The whole time he spoke to me he never looked at me in the face, only stared at his computer and answered about 8 of my questions. I asked him to please explain in detail as I was scared of the whole procedure, all he did was make really bad off the wall remarks that were inappropriate for this situation and gave me one word answers. I asked if there were less evasive ways to fix this issue and if they used robotic or laser equipment, he just simply said, "I only use my god given hands and talent, no special equipment". He finally grew really upset that I had all of these questions and actually said "if you can find someone with better credentials than himself, that we should go some where else, since we didn't have any faith in him!!!" If this doctor is that insecure and can not answer my questions, than I am very happy to find another doctor. That SPOKE volumes. I have never had a doctor not want to explain something to me in detail-he was over worked and full of himself. I would not trust anyone in my family to a doctor this unprofessional and vain as Dr. Soo. If you are having surgery done, have a second and third opinion. And if you find a doctor like Dr. Soo that treats you like this--RED FLAG. Go somewhere else. My life is important to me so I will ask questions. IF the doctor can not answer-go to someone who will take the time to explain it to you. If you do not feel comfortable get out and go somewhere else!

I treated with Dr. Soo a few years ago. As for his surgical expertise, he is the best, bar none. His bedside manner is impeccable. He sits and listens to your concerns and cares. He answers your questions; and if he can't help you, he will so inform you. If the surgery he performed resulted in the desired outcome, what do you need to discuss. He will tell you all you need to know and if you listen carefully to him, I believe your questions will all be answered at the conclusion of the conversation.

I dealt with this doctor for spine surgery and I felt that he did a good job on the operation, but had "No Time" to listen or in my case care about anything I had to say in follow up visits. I would have a hard time recommending him to anyone.
