I have been seeing Dr. Finesmith for about three years. After living in a tropical climate for many years, I am concerned about skin cancer. I have had several "spots" frozen off and a few moles removed plus a few other minor skin conditions. I like her matter of fact demeanor but she is also friendly and conversational. I agree that she has received either very high remarks or very low-not much inbetween. Personality differences maybe?

Pros: No drama, No Upsell

I have been a patient of Dr. Finesmith for over 7 years, as well as my husband. I have always found her to be straight forward, and not one to add additional tests or treatments to pad her pocket.
I am appalled at some of the reviews that paint an unfavorable picture of her. Perhaps they were looking for a hand holder. I want someone who speaks the truth and doesn't glorify, either in words or ego.

On my last visit, I was charged $125 over the office visit because I had not been in for 2 years (gee, I didn't need to go every 6mos/year!). Even though my insurance paid the entire office call, and $24 of this "extra charge" Tina was unwilling to negotiate, though I'd been a patient for 5 years.
She did not provide a thorough exam, but merely used her "gun" to burn off some tags, and sent me on my way.
Very unsatisfied with her professional demeanor, billing policies, and medial diagnostics.

I decided to go to Dr. Finesmith mainly for her convenient location in Ballard. After reading the reviews I didn't know what to expect of my visit. Seems like people either loved her or hated her - which camp would I join?

The visit went really well and I'll use her as my Derm when I need one. Her manner was that of perhaps a really smart, geeky SME who might not be super comfortable with banter. But we had a nice conversation before the appointment and I found her to be pleasant. She did a great job handling a skin issue and I was in and out in under 30 minutes without feeling I got the bum's rush

Her front office person was friendly as well, and efficient. Dr. Finesmith now takes Credit and Debit cards.

I had a couple conditions, she explained what they were and my treatment options. She also took a culture at the infected spot to ensure an effective treatment plan. I was called promply by Dr. Finesmith with my results. I also thought she seemed genuinly dedicated to helping me. I'm going back for a follow up and would definitley recommend her

I thought Dr. Finesmith was mostly okay during the two examinations I had with her. A little curt during the first one, but she wasn't an ogre or anything.

The reason I do not recommend using this doctor is because she doesn't take credit cards. The health care reimbursement plan that I have uses a debit card and it's a huge pain in the neck trying to pay this woman. I have to instruct the health care company to issue her a check...the first one did not arrive in her office, apparently. The receptionist informed me that "they have a big problem with mail getting lost in this office."

I understand that it's a doctor's choice to not accept credit cards, but I also think that part of being a good doctor is managing payment and health care reimbursement.

If paying with a debit or credit card is important to you, then do not choose this doctor.

I was recommended to this doctor by my parents' dermatologist. I was told she was trying to "build her practice." I made an appointment and I was told they only accept cash or check. I found that to mean "it's a really small practice and may not be a quality experience" so I came to citysearch to check it out. Thank goodness I did, so I was prepared for her "bedside manner". She treated me as though I had no understanding of my own body. She cut me off when I tried to explain the issues I was having, she got impatient with me for not being able to give her an exact time period I'd been having a condition, and she spoke down to me. We were short on time and she cut my appointment short. This was actually because her receptionist couldn't get ahold of my insurance company so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes before she would see me.
I only had to pay a $25 copay, but I kind of feel that I was ripped off. I would recommend a different dermatologist. Unless you like being yelled at.

I am a medical professional and believe that I am in a good position to evaluate the care that I have received from Dr. Finesmith. Her service is professional, straightforward, and medically appropriate. I am completely satisfied and cannot explain her negative ratings. Additionally, making an appointment is easy, office waits are short, and the visit is quick and to the point. Many dermatologists have blurred the line between medicine and cosmetic procedures. Dr. Finesmith is very much upfront about the fact that her practice is focused on the serious side of dermatology. The office setting is not glitzy or intimidating, but it is nevertheless modern and pleasant.

I was a bit nervous before my appt based on the harsh negative reviews, but they couldn't be more far off. I was seen promptly by the doctor herself (rather than sequestered to a room by a nurse for a half hour) and she was friendly and straight forward with her assessment and treatment. All of my questions were answered, we had some friendly chat about an existing condition I have and I was out and on with my day. Seriously, if there were 6 stars I would have given them to her. Don't be worried about the negative reviews, she's great.

and guess what... i still itch.
Well, i saw "dr" tina finesmith a little over a year ago. Let's say january 2007. i had a bunch of wierd looking stuff under my armpit growing on my pit hairs.. like little colonies on every hair folicle... complete with itching and redness. she said to me "it looks like a bacterial infection". "oh? what kind?", i asked. "i don't know".
hmm.... i think that is the anwer right there, "i don't know".
-no kidding.
would you like to take a sample? send it to a lab and find out? maybe look at it for more than a glance? i did look up a dermatologist because i was scared as hell. no? o.k.
i was prescribed clindamycin phosphate topical gel.... (you need some topical cream) of which i used, and it may or may not have helped at the time, i couldn't really tell if it was just the infection running it's course over the two months of gel, or if the gel was doing anything.
anyways, guess what's back? that's right! itchy as hell skin and some of the same growths on the hair follicles. guess who i am not going back to?

Cons: everything about my experience with "dr" finesmith

I have visited Dr Finesmith's office and had very satisfactory treatment. I have also referred my sister. And my boyfried is her patient as well. We have all shared our experiences and have recommended others for treatment. I know she has many satisfied clients and it is unfortunate that a couple of complainers can ruin her reputation with this web site.

For several years, I have visited Dr. Finesmith for annual routine skin exams and help with occasional moles, etc. She is very professional, knows what she's looking at, and gets the job done. I prefer her professional and matter-of-fact approach - she is direct and doesn't waste your time (I don't need to be coddled). Recently she found a suspect mole on the back of my arm that I had not noticed. She was recommended to me by one of the best skin cancer doctors in Seattle.

I have been seeing Dr. Finesmith for about ten years. She is professional and smart and funny and is always friendly while getting her job done. She has a sense of confidence in her work that is comforting to me. She always makes me feel comfortable, even when I'm in for a procedure that isn't necessarily fun. She takes time to listen, answers all my questions in a thorough manner. I never feel like I'm being rushed in her offce. I highly recommend her. She's the best dermatologist in town.

After procrastinating out of fear of the results of a mysterious bump on my arm, I finally made my appt with Dr. Finesmith upon a referral from my naturopath. I was able to get an appt in a timely manner, and the staff was very nice and helpful. I arrived, filled out the appropriate paperwork and was called in and with in 10 minutes of being in the room with her, I had to just leave. I have never been so offended by a professional. She completely belitted my concerns for the health of my skin....not a good move for a skin doctor. She told me that she knew exactly what she was going to find before she even looked at it and when I commented on how big I thought it was, she just snickered and said.."yeah, big" in a most sarcastic way. I am going to call my doctor who referred her to suggest that she not refer her anymore......and I will NEVER recommend anyone to this NASTY woman's practice.

I got Dr. Finesmith's evil twin sister, judging from the other reviewers, but I had a horrible experience at her office. I showed up a bit early for my appointment, and the office door was locked, and then when the doctor finally came to open the office, she was talking with her first appt, looked over at me, and asked me "what are you doing here?" as bluntly as if I had wandered off the street.
I was promised a 1/2 appt by the receptionist, but when it was my turn, I maybe got 10 mins of her time. I am 23 and was experiencing hair loss due to stress the time (which I later found out on my own), she harshly told me that hair just falls out and said I have dandruff, all while actually looking at me for maybe 2 minutes of this time. She gave me a presciption that did nothing, did nothing to help my fears regarding my hair falling out, and did not listen, I felt, to my overlying symptoms, as a good doctor should do.
Overall, while other people seem to have had good experiences, I found her to be a dissassociated and uncompassionate pracitioner who I will never go back to and I would urge others to do the same.

I once had a case of basal cell carcinoma on my arm that required surgery for removal, so Dr Finesmith concern for looking for skin cancer is reassuring. But she also understands the desire for nice skin and does not get too zealous. Previously, a GP had repeatedly frozen a spot on my shin so zealously that 4 years later I still have a red 3/8" diameter scar. It did not look that bad before... hardly visible. Dr Finesmith said that I should have had her look at it first because it probably wasn't dangerous. Now I save all dermatological questions for her and she gently freezes off new blemishes for me.

The doctor now does Botox and Restylane. When I am ready I will go to her because I trust her to be careful. Now if I could just get her to start doing facial peels!!
