MY ADVICE IS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR HEALTHY FEMALE ORGANS, DO NOT UNDERGO ANY TYPE OF SURGERY WITH MILKA TORBARINA. FROM MY EXPERIENCE, SHE WILL NOT NOT LISTEN TO YOU, EVEN WHEN YOU'VE MADE YOURSELF PERFECTLY CLEAR. SHE WILL DO WHAT SHE WANTS AND THAT MAY BE REMOVING YOUR HEALTHY ORGANS UNNECESSARILY. I'M CONVINCED IT'S SO SHE WILL GET PAID MORE MONEY. TO ME SHE WAS A VERY SCARY PERSON, AND IN MY OPINION, SHE SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICING MEDICINE. PS-- IF YOU DO SEE HER, DO NOT SIGN THE ARBITRATION AGREEMENT.

Pros: WORST DOCTOR I EVER MET

.

I read that the staff was rude before going and since this is NYC it didn't phase me. The lady on the phone was definitely pretty rude. I was nice to her, but she was saucy to me and probably needs to find a different line of work.

There was not a huge wait before going back, but I did have to wait an awkward amount of time while in my half paper gown waiting for the Doctor - that was odd. The advertisement in the exam room for her hair removal services felt a little tacky to me, but that is a matter of opinion not her talents as a Doctor. There was a tonnnnn of personal gossip going on very loudly by staff, it felt like I was at a hang out.

The Nurse was very caring and professional. The Doctor seems nice and she really appeared to care about what was going on with me and with my medical history. But she seemed a tiny bit distracted here and there, like when she took a brief cell call during the initial consult. I wouldn't consider her style particularly ambitious or cutting edge. If you just need to get on the pill or get a routine check up she is totally fine for that.

Pros: Good Nurse who follows up with patients

Cons: Office staff/experience can get a little wacky

After reading a few reviews I decided to write one of my own, since I have been a patient of Dr. Torbarina for a few years. The truth is.. the office is small, but okay - the staff : the receptionist can be rude at times, she seems overwhelmed; the doctor's assistant is very friendly to me.. the doctor herself can seem a bit rude, but it's her personality to be frank about things.. I actually like her attitude. On my first visit she and I sat and spoke in her office for at least 10 mintues addressing my concerns (my previous doctor was a mute), so needless to say I was happy with a doctor who gives it to me straight.

I need to find another gyno asap. I gave them three chances, and all three times have been terrible. Her staff is so rude and never helpful. Same goes for the doctor. She doesn't explain anything and when you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid you even asked that question.

Dr. Torbarina is liste as "Milka Torbarina" on my insurance website, so unfortunately I was not able to find her in google initially. I wish I had searched harder and found these review before going to her office. My appointment did not start on time, like everyone else here. I waited for more than 2 hours after my start time. Her staff started discussing another patient's test results loudly enough so that everyone in the office could hear. Both Dr torbarina and her office seem disorganized. I don't feel that Dr. torbarina adequately discussed my health concerns. Since I waited for more than 2 hours, I hoped for a conversation that was longer than 2 minutes. There are tons of poster advertising various cosmetics procedures and hair removal in her office. Dr Torbarina probably does these because not enough patients are willing to visit her office and pay for for her poor medical skills.

Pros: easy to make an appointment

Cons: long wait time, unprofessional staff, unresponsive doctor

not on time, doctor is weird, staff rude, lost exam results, lost prescriptions, dirty office, insurance paperwork not sent properly, not good at doing tests asked for, don't go

My experience was similar to most of the negative reviewers below. Dr. Torbarina was more than an hour late for my appoitnment. I had originally selected her office because it was close to my work, but I more than made up for any transit time I saved by the long wait in her office. Her receptionist was eating her greasy fried chicken lunch at her desk and listening to music through headphones when I was checked in. The receptionist was incredibly rude to another woman that had not received her insurance card in the mail. Dr. Torbarina was rather brusque and rude at my consultation. Her office was extremly dirty and had papers thrown all over the place. I almost left because I didn't want my exam in such a dirty place. I also experienced difficulty in getting my results and other documents.

I agree with other reviews. She may be fine with routine exams, but if you have a problem, even minor, she is not very helpful in explaining what is going on to you, which makes an already nerve-wracking experience unnecessarily worse. In my case, she just handed me a pamphlet when I asked questions and could not satisfactorily answer what should have been simple questions. She also does not seem very compassionate, i.e. understanding that although she sees these kinds of things every day, this is the first time you've dealt with it.

Also, with respect to staff, I never received some test results from her office and the staff acted like it was my fault. When I called one of her staff to ask some questions she confused me with someone else (which I didn't at first know) and told me some things that were wrong.

Don't go because if you have any problems you do not want this doctor and her staff helping your through it.

I had few options in choosing a doctor due to my insurance plan. The first time I went, I waited over an hour and found the office unprofessional in many minor respects. I liked that the doctor did a consultation ahead of time. She seemed competent during the exam. I ended up needing immediate follow-up with extensive tests. I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and forge ahead. During subsequent visits I again waited over an hour and spent up to two hours at the office having to call work and explain why I was so late. The receptionist is mostly rude and overall the office appears extremely disorganized.

While I still believe that the doctor is competent in general, the anxiety of having potentially serious health issues and working with a disorganized staff with poor communication is not worth it. I would look for an office that has it all, competence, friendly staff and timely communication. That being said, I have had bad experiences in other offices as well. The pros are that you can get an appointment fast (though you will pay with a long wait in the office) and that the doctor has a tell-it-like-it-is approach which can be good or a turn off for some. I for one miss my old doctor, who no longer takes my insurance, and will be shopping around again.

Pros: Appts scheduled in the near future, down to earth attitude

Cons: Wait time in office extremely long, rude staff, querky behavior

The first time I went to Dr. Torbarina I liked her despite her rude staff and the fact that I waited for over an hour. However, when I went back in with a minor problem she was completely unhelpful, didn't seem to know what she was talking about, told me to look it up online, and then prescribed me antibiotics which I did not need. Each time I tried to call back for my lab results I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I definitely would not recommend her, and will not be seeing her again.

Reading the previous reviews, I was anxious about my upcoming appointment. As office decor goes, it was regular; small and sterile.
The receptionist was a little cold and frustrated with the phone constantly ringing but I was pleasant and she returned the niceties.
The nurse was formal and warm.
Dr. Torabrina was quirky and down-to-earth.
My appointment was for 2:45, I arrived at 2:40 and was in by 3:00. That's fairly standard regarding appointments, if anything, I was shocked to be out of the office at 3:40. She answered all my questions and told me to 'call anytime with questions'. Overall, I have nothing negative to report and I will return to her office for future appointments.

I would have to agree with a number of reviews here. Her staff (especially the lady who answers the phone) is terrible. Dr. Torbarina herself is nice enough but honestly, I don't think her skill is enough to compensate for the rudeness of her staff. I will definitely look for another gynecologist.

I chose Dr. Torbarina after reading several good reviews of her. I had to say, I was thoroughly disappointed. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. The office is small, but that didn't especially bother me because it is New York and it's probably hard to get an enormous office space. However, her office staff was rude (the desk attendant was cracking gum and listening to loud music). And the doctor's demeanor isn't very pleasant. She responded to my questions like I was an idiot, and then made inappropriate comments about my breast size.

I switched gynecologists and have since found one I'm very pleased with. I wouldn't recommend anyone visit Dr. Torbarina.

I was in complete shock when I read a bad review on this site for Dr. Catherine Torbarina. The people that write that it is an "unprofessional" office, must be completely arrogant uptight people. This office is wonderfully professional.

So, first let me just say that I have always avoided Dr's visits unless they were completely neccessary, who really "LOVES" going to see their DR?

I DO! Now. I walked into Dr. Torbarina's office and felt extremely comfortable from the second I arrived. The staff was unbelievably friendly and there was gourmet catered sandwiches on the table in the waiting room. The wait to see the Dr, was so quick (keeping in mind that I was a new patient,) it only took 14 minutes to be put in a room and considering all of the bloodwork and examination that was performed on me, it was a truly lovely hour at Dr. Torbarina's Upper East Side office. She is extremely professional, she is efficient in answering all my medical questions and concerns and the examination was more of a "problem solved" feeling, than awkward.. It was absolutely a wonderful experience, the whole thing. I have already recommended her to women in my family and girl friends that I am close with. I think women should only have a DR with whom they have a great experience with. She also does painless hair removal treatment and it is incredible. She and her office are incredible. To be honest, I can't wait to go back!!

I should have. I was scheduled for the first appointment of the day and arrived a half hour early -- I did not see the doctor until 45 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment time. The entire experience reeked of unprofessionalism -- blaring music, untidy and dirty office space, poorly trained staff, and a doctor who didn't seem to care that she treated her patients poorly, and little feedback about what was going on or the questions I asked. Next time I'll look for something based more than proximity and the fact that she has a PhD.... and I'll listen to the reviews.

I was relatively satisfied with my experience with Dr. Torbarina until 4 weeks after my appointment, when I received a non-specific, impersonal LETTER telling me that my Pap Smear had returned "abnormal results." The letter did include "informational pamphlets," which were apparently supposed to make me feel better, but when you're being told that you should schedule a cervical biopsy, some mass-produced, clinically general brochures with pensive-looking women holding flowers on the front are NOT adequate communication. I'm sorry, in this instance I think it's only appropriate to receive a personal call from your doctor or AT THE VERY LEAST a Nurse or Medical Assistant.

Furthermore, I received the letter in question on a Friday evening, so I had to wait until Monday to actually speak with anyone. As you might imagine, my weekend wasn't exactly footloose and fancy-free.

Come Monday, I called as soon as the office (allegedly) opened at 9 AM, only to be told by an answering service that they were "running late" and to call back in a little while. When I finally did get through to someone in the office and asked to speak with Dr. Torbarina or a Nurse/Medical Assistant, I was told that nobody was available and that I would just have to make an appointment.

Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed and upset by the lack of professionalism and personal interaction here...and that's independent of the fact that I'm facing a potentially serious health issue here. I plan to start looking for a new Gyno as soon as possible.

Cons: Wait-Time

Dr. Tobarina is relaxed and comfortable with herself, but is sometimes flippant about issues that are obviously more important to the person undergoing the exam or procedure. I do not think she puts herself in the position of the patient.
Moreover, as I have often requested the first appointment of the day, she is invariably late.
Her staff has changed often over the years which is a bad sign, although I can only speculate as to what the problems are. I believe that her staff is polite and helpful, but do not always get along with each other which is a reflection of the management of the office. Patients should not witness that sort of infighting or wrangling over who is supposed to do what task. In a small office such as this, the staff should be trained to work as a team.

I had a very good experience with Dr. T. It was my first appointment with her, so I didn't know what to expect. But, she made me feel at ease with her humor and no-nonsense demeanor. She did one thing that I really liked--we had a one-on-one chat in her office--not in the examination room--to talk about my medical history, etc. I'm always fearful when I book an appointment with a doctor for the first time, particularly an ob/gyn, so I'm glad I picked a knowledgeable, yet down-to-earth doc like Dr. T. My only complaint is was the wait time--which I'm thinking was the case because I had a late afternoon appointment, as did several of the other women waiting with me.

I found Dr. Torbarina's demeanor very professional and her knowledge very up to date. She's funny when she has to be and serious when appropriate. I found her staff helpful, though sometimes the wait period at certain times of day (late afternoons) longer than at others. I highly recommend her.

I completely agree with the two ratings that preceed mine. Her office staff was rude, uncompassionate and seemed to know nothing about confidentuality and proper office behavior. Dr. Torbarnia was fine, very quick yet throuough which is a good thing, yet extremely disorganized. Her desk was covered in papers, which is fine if that is her style, yet I did not get the results from my appointment until 2 months after the appointment! It also worried me that she did not know what the medication I took was for, even though it is a very common medicine that most people are familiar with. I do not recomend you go to her, but mostly, I recomend that you do not go into her office unless you want to be treated in an unprofessional manner.

Dr. Torbarina is a good doctor to go to if you're in a hurry or emergency calls. Aside from that, take your time to research other doctors in the area. She's not horrible, in fact, she's quite accommodating. She's very friendly but you still walk out of that office not really sure if anyone is competent there. In particular, her staff, by far the worst office dynamics I've seen. They are rude, misinformed and in no shape or form professional.
Best of luck with your search.

She was the most patronizing doctor I have ever been to. After receiving sarcastic comments from her that made me feel uncomfortable, I didn't feel comfortable asking any other questions. Not what you want in a doctor. The assistant didn't seem to know what she was doing. And my appointment took place an hour after its schedule time. The only good thing was that I had been able to get an appointment the same week that I had called.

I've tried more than 10 gynecologists everywhere, and never been satisfied!. Dr Torbarina is the best! she is very patient and really takes her time with you. She is also very friendly so is easier for you to tell her or ask her any doubt you have.

Pros: great!

.

dr. torbarina is an awesome doctor - open, informal, willing and able to answer all kinds of questions. (and approachable enough that you feel comfortable asking them!) if you are looking for a gyn who will treat you like a human being and spend quality time with you, she's your woman.
