Mary L. Merz, DDS

i have already posted my experience with Merz, here I'm just replying to some of the reviews which are all ironically listed within a few months. Merz does seem to be very aggressive in wanting to get as many as new patients she can. While her office is full and she only has one assistant, she calls other dentists asking for 'new' referrals b/c she tells them that her business is not doing well and she needs new business.
If these reviews here are not just products of Merz's marketing efforts then there is only one reason why she didn't provide the great care that you are all talking about here to me and two of my friends (both adults), that we are not blonde or powerful, we are just regular hardworking people who made a mistake of going to Merz and will be paying for that mistake for the rest of our lives both financially (costs to fix dental problems caused by her and emotionally (difficulty holding her responsible b/c of top lawyers and her insurance co who back her up to their teeth).
Perhaps, if you are white and blonde and rich then yes Merz may have treated you better because she only cares about that networking in the community specifically with top lawyers who keep her out of trouble.
The only thing that she cares about is to bond with the rich and the powerful.

she has been in the filed for over 20 yrs, yet she doesn't have even one single recognition, award or article related to her practice.

Jamie is the only good thing in her office. Jamie her technician does all the work but she has no health insurance and Merz keeps her as a part time so she doesn't have to give her any benefits.

Merz is either chatting with her friends on the phone in her office or chatting with the wealthy people in the waiting room or with the business sales people getting free samples.

once when i complained about her being unfocused, uncaring and distracted, she called me and promised me to give me a one-on-one attention but when I went to her office, she put me in one of her office and closed the door. She then disappeared for about 45 minutes talking to a sales person.

So her idea of one-on-one was a joke meaning she was insulting me by telling me that one-on-one means me in isolation in a cell like office all by myself.

Underneath that quiet looking dentist is a manipulative person who plays mind games with anyone who questions her.

She has all those digital equipment in her office, yet she never diagnosed my dental issues. I had to go to a periodontist to get the right diagnosis.

Be sure you take your kids (or for yourself as adult patients) to a periodontist before, during and after orthodontics treatment with Merz, because she is never going to tell you if there are hidden problems with your teeth.

She will make you believe that everything is just a big happy party and a musical and sweet one and that's why she feeds all those office decoration, music, TV and candies down your throats so you leave with a good happy experience and a months or years later when you finally do notice all the problems caused by orthodontics treatment it will be too late to go back and keep her responsible or it.

Just my 2 cents advise for all who go see this orthodontics. She has ruined my life since I put my foot in her office and I am not Blonde like she is.

The dentists at Torrey Pines Orthodontics are always so professional and polite. They do a wonderful job. There office is so relaxing, so that when you walk in you feel right at ease. I can't see myself going to any other dentist.

They are very nice, professional, and experts.They also specialize in the Invisalign which for me it's a plus! I'm 22 and I decided to get the Invisalign because I don't want to have to deal with metal in my teeth. I definitely recommend Torrey Pines Orthodontics to anyone who wants to get a perfect smile !

I know I love this place, but my children love it even more! I'm so glad we found a place where they were comfortable enough to go as often as we should. I would recommend this place to anyone who's children are scared of the dentist, because they make it so comfortable and safe for them.

The staff at Torrey Pines Orthodontists are friendly, professional, and personable. The office is clean and state-of-the-art. If you are looking to have a beautiful smile done right the first time, this is the place to go. In my opinion you don't shop for a "bottom of the barrel bargain" when looking for a cosmetic dentist.

I have straight teeth! That's something I would never have been able to say if it wasn't for Torrey Pines Orthodontics! They are so kind and sweet here, and all they want to do is help you. I can't say thank you enough for what you did for me!

As an older guy I really didn't want braces but I needed them . I went in to Torrey Pines Orthodontics and they helped me figure out a treatment plan. I ended up getting Invisaline and after just a little while using it my teeth are already looking better! I am so thankful to the staff for helping me find a solution to my problem that would best suit my lifestyle. I would recommend them to anyone!

I am one of those that fears the dentist and as a result haven't gone for years. I went in and everyone was so easy going and helpful. They were friendly and didn't make me feel like scum for not having gone to the dentist for such a long time. WHEW! Now that the initial visit is over I can relax knowing I'm in good hands!

I won't go anywhere else. The very wonderful staff are very thorough and friendly. Every experience I have had there has been pleasant and painless. It's hard to believe I am talking about a dental office but they are that good! I would recommend Torrey Pines to everyone!

I didn't think I would ever see the day when my daughter threw a tantrum because she DIDN'T want to leave the Dentist office. That's how great this place is! They were great at explaining the whole process in a very kid friendly way. They have a T.V in the waiting room. Excellent experience all around and I'll be bringing my daughter back here for years to come.

My daughter goes here and she loves it! She was really scared to get braces, but they really made her feel comfortable and relaxed. The next two to three years should be a piece of cake!

Amazing services. I've been coming here for years for various reasons. Braces and retainers..she does it all, and very well.
The staff is incredibly friendly with each and every patient that comes in, and they're also very patient. I've never been unsatisfied with Dr. Merz.

I recently had the privilege of becoming a patient of Dr. Merz and her staff. The office runs smoothly and I have waited only negligible amount of time to be seen.
Since my first appointment, I felt welcomed by the staff and Dr. Merz. They pride themselves in conducting an excellent dental practice emphasizing on the individuals unique necessities and concerns. Thanks for everything!

Dr. Merz is great! I've been getting my Invisalign treatment at her office, and I've been really happy with the results. Her staff is very professional and extremely friendly. Also the office is very clean and the atmosphere welcoming. I went to Dr. Merz because a friend recommended me to her and I've been really happy with my decision. If you are thinking about getting Invisalign I highly recommend Torrey Pines.

Dr. Merz is an artist. I just got my braces removed and I couldn't be happier with the results. After visiting this office for over 2 years, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for service. If you are thinking about getting some work done on your teeth by an orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Merz. You will get excellent service and excellent results! I absolutely LOVE my new (straight) teeth!!

I have been in treatment with Dr. Merz for almost a year. I am extremely satisfied with the treatment I am getting. Her staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The office is beautiful and advanced. I noticed that she works with a lot of adult patients. I highly recommend Dr. Merz to anyone who is interested in getting braces. I will definitely be taking my children there when it is time for them to have their orthodontic treatment.

My son and I have been patients of Dr. Merz for nearly 2 yrs. During that time, Dr. Merz and her staff have proven to be experts with heart. They are focused on and committed to crafting great smiles and optimizing the functionality of our mouths. When obstacles arise, Dr. Merz is unphased - she always has solutions and takes time to explain them in a way that makes sense to us. She candidly shares the short and long-term pros/cons of each option; including financial implications and allows us time to process the information before making a decision. Looking back on our selection process, I am confident we made the right choice. Honestly, I was nearly swayed by the glitz/glam marketing programs of other Orthodontists who were great marketers. But the reality is, we didn't need a great "marketer"... we needed a great Orthodontist - and Dr. Merz is just that. She is an outstanding Orthodontist who delivers phenomenal results.

I would highly recommend Torrey Pines Orthodontics to anyone looking for an orthodontist that won't stop until everything is perfect. Dr. Merz is not only a true artist, but personable and attentive as well. I love how whenever I have a problem, they have an available spot to fix me up. Dr. Merz and her staff are very diligent and highly knowledgeable at what they do! The office is a beautiful facility with state of the art equipment and the staff always gives you a big welcome when you arrive for your appointment! I would highly recommend Dr. Merz at Torrey Pines Orthodontics to anyone looking for a highly educated Orthodontist who demonstrates great passion about what they do and wants that million dollar smile they have always dreamed about!

Dr. Merz and her staff have had such an impact on our family. Not only has our oldest daughter received a fabulous smile through Dr. Merz and her well trained staff, but our second daughter is on her way to achieving that million dollar smile too. We have been so incredibly happy with the service, expertise through care we have received at Torrey Pines Orthodontist.

Dr Merz is prompt, professional, and excellent at her craft. A true artist. Also as a working parent, I appreciate the flexibility of how the office always works with my schedule as a lawyer. But most important my kids teeth (yes 2yrs) look amazing, the best investment ever. Dr. Merz is amazing. She is a consummate perfectionist. I just wish I had an orthodontist like Dr. Merz when I was a kid!!

I highly recommend Dr. Merz for orthodontics. She has treated both of my children as well as myself with Invisalign. Her office in the Carmel Valley area is wonderful and state of the art. Everything is digital and immediate. You don't have to go elsewhere for special x-rays or imaging. Dr. Merz is personable and attentive. She is very knowledgeable. I am very pleased with our results.

After doing extensive research and interviewing a number of orthodontists in the area, we decided to put our teeth/smiles in the expert hands of Dr. Merz and her staff. In the 15 months since my son and I got our braces on, we've never once doubted our decision.

My orthodontist experience has been so lovely! I love how nice it is to know that when I even have the slightest problem, you have an available spot to fix me up. Plus, your service is so nice, you guys treat me like family. I am so glad that I go to you guys!

Aside from the clean, friendly and modern environment; the doctor and staff are great! It is refreshing to see this, while at the same time receiving top-notch quality care. Highly recommend!!!
