.

After dealing with many doctors, I was finally referred to Dr. Shaul but it took a ton of research on my own on websites like this (which is exactly why I am such a big advocate and supporter of web based reviews & blogs!!).

I was skeptical and the stakes were high since my son was only an infant when he was initially diagnosed with an abscess located on his bottom (perineum). It was not red or inflamed, just a deep bump under his skin that made him unable to sit. The physician at the time lanced the abscess in his office without any pain meds and soon my son became extremely ill. He ended up in the hospital. THAT doctor is no longer practicing medicine otherwise I would review him on Yelp.

The abscess returned when my son was in 1st grade and we ended up in the ER - this time with high fevers in addition to a large abscess. First Los Robles Hospital ER and then another Westlake physician (considered to be the TOP surgeon at Los Robles) suggested we lance this again, even after testing it for an anal fistula. He claimed the first procedure (lancing) didn't completely work and so my son was lanced again under a general.

The abscess came back.

A 4th physician in Thousand Oaks diagnosed the abscess again as NOT a fistula and wanted to lance it. I wasn't convinced and did not want my son to experience any more pain! I sought out more advice from md's at my expense, hauled my son around to 3 more well known and respected Thousand Oaks' physicians and I searched long and hard on the internet trying to find a competent physician.

I actually found the REFERRING physician on the INTERNET who led me to Dr. Shaul. My son was FINALLY diagnosed correctly as an anal fistula (extremely rare in small children) by Dr. Shaul, he swiftly and competently performed the surgery and 4 years later, I am happy to report, the abscess has not returned.

This is the only physician in my life I have personally delivered flowers to with tears flowing down my cheeks. !!!!
