Dr. Gower is the best pediatric ENT surgeon and I would reccomend her to anyone with a small child. My childs health is of number one importance to me and I have always sought out the best care for both of my kids. The first ENT I used with my older son, left him with issues that we are still dealing with. I have read horror stories about the recovery time of a tonsillectomy and I have to say that within 3 hours of my sons surgery performed by Dr. Gower, he was back to himself. He hasn't experienced ANY pain since and we are on day 8. I'm amazed and thankful for her expertise in this field and will make sure all my friends go there as well. Thanks so much Dr. Gower!

Dr. Verlia Gower of Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat of Atlanta, P.C. is the worst doctor of any kind that I have ever encountered. She was cold, rude and very condescending to me and my child. The fact that she is a pediatrician and deals with kids is appalling! 1st of all, she never spoke to or addressed my 2 yr old child (this set a bad tone for the entire visit). She never made him feel comfortable when she was examined him (we all know that little kids don??t like to be poked & examined). She never said anything calming or soothing as I had to hold my child down from screaming while she was examining him. Her nurse even came into the room in an attempt to hold him down but she never stopped to comfort him at all. Secondly, my child has seen several doctors, been to the emergency room & has been evaluated by 3 speech therapists for multiple ear infections & speech delay due to the infections. They are all saying the same thing about my child (due to multiple ear infections, the fluid behind his ears has caused him to be delayed in his speech). All of his other development levels are fine but his speech is severely delayed (his speech is said to be that of a 9-12 months old) and this is because he CAN NOT hear words clearly.
Despite the same diagnosis from multiple sources, Dr Gower literally said to me, ??they are all wrong and I am the only person who has the courage to tell you the truth.? She said that my child doesn't have a hearing problem regarding his multiple ear infections and she can tell that by looking in his ears. She simply said he is a slow speaker. I am not insinuating that my child is deaf but the way it was explained to me is that when children have ear infections or even fluid in the middle ear that isn??t affected, it is as if they are under water and trying to hear what people are saying outside of the water. I was also told that when my son took the audiology test that he didn??t have an ear infection and therefore could not duplicate his hearing loss problem. That did not mean that ear infections have not affected his hearing, it just means that he could hear perfectly fine during the test and is not an indication that he has perfect hearing. Thirdly, Dr. Gower came to the conclusion from just looking into his hears. She never talked to my child or even took the time to explain why she was certain. Basically if she had a better attitude/bed side manner, I would have been able to receive her diagnosis. She was not helpful at all. Every time I questioned her about what she was saying, she never took the time to explain what or why she was saying it?it was as if I had no right to question her.
The last time I checked she was the doctor and we go to the doctor for an explanation. I don??t?? pretend to be a doctor but I am a concerned parent. In the 5-10 min she was in my child??s presence, she told me that he was just a s slow speaker and that I should wait for him to talk. I told her that in a few months he would be 3 yrs old and they could possibly place my child in a class for children needs. I don??t believe my child is special needs and I am not comfortable with the fact that her ultimate un-professional opinion came from her lack of effort. Like I said, she never comforted me or reassured me that everything would be okay with my child. In addition, I have read blogs saying that other parents waited to address this issue and their children have had permanent hear loss because they waited too long. I bet if I wait and my child receives permanent hearing loss, Dr Gower won??t take credit for her diagnosis, my child will be deaf and she would respond just as arrogantly as she did today.
If Dr. Gower is reading this message, she cannot say that I didn??t tell her that I wanted more answers. All she kept telling me was to go to therapy? She didn??t have to tell me about therapy because I am aware that my child needs Speech Therapy & I have arranged for Speech Therapy before meeting her.
She had all of the arrogant answers as to what wasn??t wrong with my child but couldn??t tell me (a mother who has to watch her intelligent & frustrated child try to communicate) why my 2 yrs old son can??t say the word CAT. What she did tell me is that everyone just gave me an EASY answer and told me what I wanted to hear.
I am including a few articles that I have found regarding the issues my son has been having. I am sure Dr. Verlia Gower of Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat of Atlanta, P.C. will disagree with them all as she is the expert and everyone else is WRONG!!! Funny thing is I can??t find any articles by Dr. Verlia Gower of Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat of Atlanta, P.C. on ear infections & speech delay (just on The Laryngoscope)or any that will back up HER diagnosis of my child?

Dr Gower was rude and condescending. The office staff canceled my daugher's sleep study as they thought there was a problem with the insurance (there was not) without calling us about it. BCBS requested a copy of the medical record and they have never sent it nor called bcbs and now are trying to say I am responsible for the bill. You can bet I won't pay!

These doctors have taken care of all of my children and have multiple locations around Atlanta. The testing is done on site and you receive immediate results. The doctor then gives recommendations. They have been wonderful and compassionate throughout our procedures. Follow-up care is great and we have no problem getting appointments.
