We recently moved to Plant City but prior to the move had found Dr. Watkins through our insurance. We called to set up an appointment but were told we had to wait until she was able to review all past medical records. (why? I'm pregnant do you really need more than that?) To make a very long story short, we waited nearly 2 months during which time we were always told that someone would call us but never did and we called we were told that she was still reviewing our file or didn't have enough information. Finally after 9 weeks we were told that I'm high risk and that she would not see me because of that. WHAT!?!?! I've had an excellent pregnacy this time around (4 kids) and am still under 40. Why could she not tell me that in the first place rather than make my husband and I jump trough as many hoops as what she did and to make us wait as long as what she did was inexcusable!!! Now I am again searchin for a doctor and am due 2.5 months. I wonder... does she only work with patients where she doesn't neede to work, or put any effort into anything? She should have picked a different career!!! I will not EVER recomend her to anyone and will do my best to hopefully advise others before they too are treated so unproffessionally and without care!!!

I don't know who I am most disappointed in, Dr. Watkins or the office staff she trusts to make timely appointments. This is my first pregnancy (unexpected) and I am 40 years old. I went to the satellite office at 7 weeks pregnant and I was asked a lot of questions and sent on my way. I returned at 11 weeks pregnant and was told that my age was a concern. I was told I could undergo a CVS test or amnio to see if the baby was developing normally. I opted for the CVS test since it could be done early in the pregnancy. About 10 days later, I called to see what was going on with my appointment. Eventually, I was told that an appointment could not be made for a CVS since I'd be too far along in my pregnancy to undergo the test. I said, you mean I have to decide whether or not to abort based on a hunch that something is wrong? The lady said, "yeah." My next vist to Dr. Watkins, I told her I was upset and she said they would check other hospitals, one of them being Sarasota Memorial I waited and waited. Finally I called back and was told by the appointment setter that "she didn't even know the number to Sarasota Memorial" and they don't go out of the county anyway, and didn't I already tell you it's too late to take the test? I threw my phone down and hung up on her. Someone called back, left a message and said an appointment was set for a month later for an amnio, didn't tell me where or when so I had to go hunt down that info. The appointment is scheduled during the end of my 19th week. I've been trying since my 11th week to get a test done. I am at 16 weeks now. I have been so upset, the father of the baby called and asked if my appointment could be moved up and they gave him the run around. I have felt no compassion or understanding and the appointment setters need some sensitivity training. We have been agonizing about the health of this baby and no one there seems to care. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new doctor.

Dr Watkins has been my OBGYN for the last five years. She cared for me through three pregnancies, delivered my three children, and has performed thorough routine care. She is thoughtful, gentle, forthright, and honest. My experience has been fantastic with Dr Watkins. She takes time to explain options, she is careful during exams and thorough in her treatment. She intervened rapidly and competently when problems arose. I feel that she has my best interest at heart and I consider myself lucky to have her as my doctor. I highly recommend Dr Watkins!

Note: There are often extended waiting times at the main Brandon office, mainly due to the popularity of this group's doctors. When I switched to one of the satellite offices, I found the waiting times to be minimal.

This is the practice to visit if you want to be treated like cattle. Do NOT expect good or even average care. The care is superficial, so you better hope that you do not develop complications because they will either ignore them or pawn you off to another practice. But not until they wait until the last minute to take your money. They will also ignore your concerns, questions and requests. They will refuse to perform any procedure that they deem "unnecessary" even if you ask for it. They will also refuse to give you an order or prescription to have the procedure done elsewhere if they deem it "unnecessary". And when tragedy strikes they will make themselves scarce and dissapear just when you need them the most. It could mean your baby's life so please think twice before choosing this practice.
