I would highly recommend Dr. Wheeler to any woman in need of an obstetrician or gynecologist. He is caring, and professional and explains everything he is doing or recommends. I found his office friendly and caring from the time I phoned for an initial appointment through my post op appointment. They phoned me twice after surgery to see how I was doing, I have not had a doctor's office do that for at least 25 years. The entire experience was very positive, it made the surgery go so much better have a doctor who cared and listened.

After 4 weeks waiting and a last minutes re-schedule from the doctor office, I finally met Dr. Wheeler for a bad bleeding problem. After a general check up, Dr. Wheeler told me "I'll be out of town next week, when i come back we'll perform a procedure to find out what wrong with you". When i left the office, i wasn't schedule for the next visit, so i tried to call back 1 week later to make an appointment for the procedure which was mentioned, after many times receiving the response from the message system, i has a chance to talk with a human, she said "I need to find out what kind of procedure doctor want to perform before booking an appointment for you, I will call you back". Nobody calls for 2 weeks so I called them and she said the same thing "I need to find out what kind of procedure doctor want to perform before booking the appointment for you, i will call you back", I told her "Last time you said the same thing and you didn??t call..." Then I waited for over 2 more weeks - nobody called, but my problem has gone at this point, so i didn't really care for it anymore. Then finally somebody called , i told her "my problem is gone, i may not have to see doctor anymore...", she said "Doctor still need to find out what happened to you, you should have do the procedure." She scheduled me an appointment to do a procedure 2 weeks later and also prescribed medicines at CVS drug store. At the day of my appointment, i took time off from work (i also have Cytotec medicine the night before the procedure and Motrin one hour before the procedure as the instruction), and when i got to doctor Wheeler office, somebody said "Doctor is not here today, it must be a miscommunication when the appointment was made."

I understand some of the reviews for Dr. Wheeler. He is very skilled and professional. He pays close attention to detail and has a full understanding and total knowledge of his profession. He is the doctor I would want in a crisis situation. He is the doctor I would want in a difficult surgery. He is so competent in all these ways and I can understand that it would be hard for him to answer a weight question for the hundredth time!

I am a big fan of Dr. Wheeler. I was a high risk patient and went into pre-term labor at 27 weeks. He was kind and very comforting to me and my husband. I received excellent care. I am full term and waiting the arrival of our son. We are very glad we found Dr. Wheeler!

Dr. Wheeler has great potential, but unfortunately he can be great to some but not others. I recommended him to a fellow mother to be. While my experiences with Dr. Wheeler delivering my one child were good ones, she could not say the same, and I was there to witness it. Instead of considering the thoughts and fears women naturally have during the pregnancy and birth process, I found that with her, and apparently with others by the sound of it, he reacted in a condescending manner and quite frankly, with arrogance. It makes me wonder weather there is something about women he might simply not like. He is highly opinionated and his doctor-patient relationships are suffering, whcih can only make me fear for the best interests of mothers and babies. That is disappointing, as Dr. Wheeler has excellent skills and training, and has great experience. I can honestly say that if I have another child, I will be disappointed to look for another OB at Hoag. I am quite sad about that.

I went to Dr. Wheeler for the first seven months of my pregnancy. His nurses were AWESOME, so sweet, caring, helpful, just wonderful. They took great care of me.

But Wheeler's bedside manner leaves much to be desired. At month six, I asked Wheeler about birth plans, and he didn't want to discuss yet. I asked him about my weight (I've always been very thin and I eat very healthily, but thought I was gaining an awful lot during the pregnancy. He said "it's not rocket science, it's calories in, calories out." At month seven, I asked again about what I needed to do for a birth plan and he said he had a list of "appropriate requests." I wondered aloud what people wanted that he did not feel appropriate, but he didn't want to go there. I told him I didn't want anything crazy, I just didn't want certain drugs like pitocin or demerol. His response was demeaning as well as defensive, telling me his credentials. I realized at that point that I couldn't trust him to respect my wishes during labor.

I left and am glad I did. I ended up delivering at a birth center with a caring certified nurse midwife and staff. It was an incredible experience and I am so lucky to have found such a compassionate team for my first birth!

I chose Dr. Wheeler in 1994, after going through 4 OBs helping with infertility. Dr. Wheeler, not only was successful with using only mild infertility treatment with my first in 1996, but helped us conceive naturally in 1998. His care and attention to detail, and professional knowledge can not be beat. He was always there to answer questions and give advice. And his office staff... the best also! They have been with him since then! I have referred him to five new moms, and all feel the same. My last friend just delivered with him last June (2008). You can not go wrong with Dr. Wheeler.

Dr. Wheeler came highly recommended. At first, he was incredible. Handled all my pregnancy complications well, seemed friendly, smiled and seemed very knowledgable. Had intelligent answers to questions. But I have to disagree on the bedside manner. When I showed up without my husband to one of my appointments, he reacted in a distant and somewhat cold manner (like he was uncomfortable with me being there). This made me terribly apprehensive. I was sad, as I liked him and wanted to have a good, professional doctor-patient relationship. Then during my delivery, he was crabby as ever and not very nice. He made me cry the morning after. He didn't see me at my 6 week check up, just the Nurse Practitioner (one of two incredibly wonderful ones...those ladies are perfect). His staff is great, just not always Dr. Wheeler himself. If he reads this, I hope he realizes he has the potential to be perfect, but he just doesn't carry it out consistently across the board. I hopet his could be useful constructive criticism. Unfortunately, I noticed his manner was nicer with attractive couples or girls. Not unprofessional, but nicer. I am just your average mom (mom to be at the time). Good luck all.

I can not rave enough about Dr. Jonathan Wheeler and his staff. What a great group of people to have as medical caregivers. Dr. Wheeler has the best bedside manner with his patients which is something I find important in such an intimate subject. His staff is understanding and friendly. The level of care I recieve there I do not believe I could get anywhere else. He delivers at Hoag Hospital which is right across from his office where he was able to deliver my son. He is a solo practice which I love. I'm not one who likes to be rotated between OB's. His staff also consists of a NP who is absolutely wonderful. She's amazing. Honestly his entire staff makes his practice successful. Love them!
