I made an appointment to see Dr. Alvarez for a medical issue I was having. In the time between making the appointment and the date I found out I am pregnant. I have been under his care in the past, I have had 2 miscarriages while his patient. I arrived for my appointment and was rudely informed that my appointment had been rescheduled. I was never informed of this reschedule and when I questioned why I wasn't informed and who rescheduled the appointment the receptionist stared at her computer screen and with a lack of care said " I dunno". That was my apology "I dunno". I rescheduled for the next week. That morning I had some bleeding and feared I was having a miscarriage once again. When my husband and I arrived we had to refill out all of the paperwork that we had filled out in the past. The same receptionist would ask for my insurance card and license and then close the glass on me as I was standing waiting for the cards back. She called me to the window 4 different times to go over paper work. My husband asked her if she could review the paper work and call me to the window once because I was not feeling well. She rolled her eyes at him and closed the glass. She asked for his credit card and closed the glass on him. He opened it and asked her why she keeps on closing the glass in our face and why she doesn't say please and thank you when given a piece of ID or credit card. She rolled her eyes at him and she said "don't touch the glass" and proceeded to close the glass in her face.

I spoke with the doctor letting him know that I am working with an acupuncturist/ herbalist for my miscarriage issues. In the past he had sent me to a friend (the friend's wife is a patient of his and also works for a large insurance company that is responsible for renegotiating the terms with the doctors) that is an IVF specialist. The IVF specialist was not a match for me and my husband so we decided to go the more holistic route. I told Dr. Alvarez that I feared that I was miscarring the pregnancy and he stood with his arms crossed and dropped me from his care for working with the acupuncturist. He did not want me to explain who I was working with or what she is doing. He told me that I seemed very angry (I think I am having a miscarriage at this point and was rudely handled by his staff) and he could no longer work with me. He did not apologize for the mishap with the appointment the week before just said "we didn't do it to upset you". I have NEVER had a doctor drop me from their care. I was under his care when I had the past 2 miscarriages and here I am, in tears, sitting in his office thinking I may be having a third and because he doesn't understand acupuncture (and frankly doesn't care to). He told me he would not see me. He told me after the 2nd miscarriage when I inquired about a specialist that the standard is to wait until a woman has 3 miscarriages before sending them to a specialist. If you have ever had a miscarriage you know how emotionally and physically taxing it can be on a patient. You are just a statistic if you go to this doctor, that is all you are.
