MY EXPERIENCE WITH ZAPATA: UNCARING, UNPROFESSIONAL, MEAN-SPIRITED.

Briefly, as the day was a long day, like any delivery day, but Zapata did not see my daughter-in-law at all during her labor, until late evening when she burst into the room without introducing herself or even asking her patient how she was doing, hooked up pitocin, which her patient had specifically refused, and told her "I won't lie to you...it's going to hurt...choose what pain medicine you want." Zapata ordered everyone out, even the father of the baby, so she could "have a word with" the patient. If this had been a medical emergency, then bravo, but completely to the contrary. The young mom was doing spectacularly...good, strong, productive contracts, completely effaced, at 6 cm, and +1 station. She was having 45-55 sec contracts 2.5 to 3 min. apart...and had support of her mom, myself, a doula, and the baby's dad. She was on top of her pain, and would have likely progressed to a natural delivery, which she strongly desired. But she had refused pitocin early in the day, and apparently made Zapata angry (I know, sounds ridiculous, but she acted angrily, even violent) as she forced an unneeded and unwanted drug on her patient, with a dose that caused longer and more painful contractions, then forced all her patients support to leave, and left her patient, now screaming, for over 45 minutes, in terrible pain, while the anesthesiologist finished his "smoke." I know I sound crazy, but this really happened. Thankfully mom and baby are ok, though the mom feels that her birth experience was irreparably marred by this mean and irresponsible doctor. Be aware that this doctor has treated at least one of her patients in this unprofessional manner...to say nothing of her complete lack of compassion and showing no care or desire at all for helping her patient have the birth experience desired and discussed in advance. Zapata really let us down.
