I went in for an annual eye exam (first time with this provider). I already knew I needed correction for both distance and near vision and wanted to try contacts.

Dr. Zarnegar recommended a monovision approach: one eye is corrected for distance and the other for near visoin. I was given a pair of contacts to try was supposed to return for either a prescription or adjustment in a week. Meanwhile, I learned (on my own) that distance vision contact should be in my dominant eye, and the near vision contact should be in my non-dominant eye. They weren't, and no one had either tested or asked me. I called the office and was told that since my astigmatism (which was diagnosed as moderate) was the same for both eyes, I could just switch lenses.
When I returned for the recheck visit, I was given a new trial lens for my non-dominant eye and a written prescription that I could just fill if the trial lenses seemed work out.

I filled it with an online retailer because it was significantly lower in cost than Costco, even. While I was waiting for that order, I called Dr. Zarnegar's office to ask a question about my prescription and discovered it had been written incorrectly, so the order I was about to get was going to be wrong. Now, I had faxed the prescription itself when I placed the order **and** they verify each prescription. We all agreed that it was Dr. Zarnegar's office that made the error.

She declined to cover the cost of my return/restock fee, but eventually offered to exchange my incorrect box (one box, in theory was the right prescription) for some that she would order as trials. I left with a new prescription and a trial lens to replace one that had torn.

When I returned home and tried the new lens, it was like trying on someone else's prescription glasses. I soldiered through, thinking I just needed to adjust since I hadn't been wearing them for about a day. At night on the road (luckily I wasn't driving) the blur was so bad that I was convinced I had never worn this strength, and I had no confidence that this was going to be sorted out.

I paid for a new exam (different doctor, private practice) a couple days later and didn't share Dr. Zarnegar's prescriptions until after my exam. It turned out that I needed nothing as strong as what was indicated my new prescription, that I didn't have the degree of astigmatism Dr. Zarnegar diagnosed, that the glasses prescription didn't parallel the contact prescription. How do I know this second diagnosis is right? I tried a pair of multifocal contacts with the proper power, and I could see. The difference was striking. I had been struggling to adjust to a prescription that was wrong. Twice.

If I can save anyone the immense hassle and waste of time and money this has cost me, taking the time to write this will have been worthwhile.

Dr. Golnar has been my daughter optometrist for 3 years, she is an excellent doctor. The staff is very friendly, the office is located in Costco, and the prices for the consultation are very affordable.
