One of the hardest things to recommend is a psychologist because a) you are admitting you went to one and b) selecting a shrink is highly personal. I will say that this woman has years of experience under her belt as she is in her seventies. I think she has been practicing for 40 years. This kind of experience amounts to a professional who is extremely effective at unearthing demons you didn't know you had in the first place. If you are going to pay for therapy, you do not want to be talking to a nodding head that says, "I see". Leo finds a way to dig deep, which makes her worth the money. Her fee is reasonable for psychologists now-a-days. Around $75.00 an hour. I highly recommend her, but be aware she has a feminist bent, but it doesn't really get in the way of good therapy.
This guy gives you an intense reading for about $100.00, but he has a sliding scale. He gives his reading either over the phone or at his apartment in Marina del Rey. He talks so fast that you better keep up because his head is spinning with information on the universe and how it operates that you better pay attention. You don't want to miss one word, but in case you do, he records your session so you can listen to it later. I went to him two years ago for a reading and so far I feel it has been pretty accurate. He has done reading for some friends of mine, and they felt the same way. He did, however, hand up on a friend of mine in frustration while they were chatting on the phone. Kenny feels we create our own destiny and he was annoyed with my friend because she was devoting her life to God, and what some would deem a cult. For another weird, wacky LA experience, if you're up for it, I recommend it. Just wear something conservative females as I believe his second chakra is working overtim
Dr. Yamada and his female assistant is all you'll need to get your teeth cleaned in a fast, efficient manner. Located on Wilshire in Westwood, he is centrally located. The best place to park is in Westwood Village in a metered space. If you make an early 8:00am appointment, parking is ample and Dr. Yamada will have you out of there by 9:0Oam order for you to make work on time. They are nice, friendly, quick and the teeth cleaning is painless.
Jerry's Famous Deli has been around forever, a known staple of Westwood Village and UCLA students. This Deli draws people of all ages and has just about everything on the menu from Jello to Steak. Recently, this restaurant was remodled. The look haschanged from the classic stodgy diner to a hip, somewhat futuristic diner, or at least it feels more sleek, modern and eye-catching than before. The service always leaves a little something to be desired at the Westwood location, but for a Brisket sandwich, the matzo ball soup, and the pastrami on rye all make it worth it. It is also nice to find a multi-generational place where everyone from 2 year olds, to college students and starving actors in their 30's to senior citizens can all convene in onehappy happening location.
Main Attraction Nail Spa located in Santa Monica on Main Street is always packed. Women with their pants rolled up sitting erect means only one thing: they are getting a pedicure. This nail salon occasionally offers a great combo deal of getting a manicure/pedicure for only $25.00 Two different people work on you at the same time; one slaving over your toes; the other looking after your hands. As you sit in a large vibrating chair that massages your back, you then realize you will have to tip two people instead of one and suddenly your bargain mani/pedi starts to feel more full-priced. The good news is that you are done twice as fast and immediately sent to the drying table where you sit on a picnic style bench next to a sixteen year old that looks like a mini-Paris Hilton and a 45 year old man who speaks like one. Bottom line: we're all worth it- just watch the tip!
Yum Yum donuts on Pico has every kind of donut available and as soon as you shuv them in your mouth they taste Yum Yum Yummy, until after a few moments and you realize they have an oily quality to them. After eating the donuts, you literally can't help but be reminded of what you just ate as you feel it moving through you- generally deemed as not a good thing. Whatever happened to the donut that is fried, but does not necessarily taste fried? I'm still in search of the perfect chocolate covered, rainbow-sprinkled cake donut. I'll keep you posted. The good thing about Yum Yum however is they sell little cartons of milk to wash down their oily donuts, which is a plus!
I discovered this pharmacy when I had unusual stomach pains. Everything that my doctors, who were trained in western medicine, prescribed to me was not working. As a last ditch effort, I turned to the homeopathic pharmacy. They have people on staff who will sit down with you and listen to your symptoms. They then discuss with you possible options and remedies. One woman sat with me for over half an hour. I have nothing but good things to say about this pharmacy. It has every kind of homeopathic medicine out there and the trained staff to make appropriate recommendations.
For fast, friendly and relatively inexpensive photo processing, P& Q is my favorite lab in Hollywood. Its known rivals are by far more expensive than this little lab. The owner Ali Fakhari will work with you on all your needs, whether big jobs or small ones. I highly recommend them as they are the best deal in town.
Button Eventures designs booths for trade shows and throws world-class special events. They are expensive, but they do a great job. I worked with them in the movie industry where they designed trade show booths for our European markets such as the Cannes Film Festival and Market. They have a great reputation and are a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them.
Bahman is fantastic with the scissors. He works at the QQ Beauty Center next to the 24 Hour Fitness in Marina del Rey. He is great with shaping and layers and everyone I have met who has gone to him raves about him. They all have great hair too! He is known for his massages, and imparting Bahman-type wisdom on his clients that keep them coming back for more.
