USC Bookstore
USC's bookstore is great. It's very large and full of books and University memorabilia. The store has a great selection of USC tshirts, sweatshirts, shorts, polo shirts, mugs, license plate frames, etc. The items aren't cheap, but this is a great place to get your favorite USC items. When USC makes it to special bowl games, the store also offers special bowl apparrel.
USC Law School
USC Law School is a great university for anyone desiring a JD degree. They have a variety of classes available and they value the academic experience. They promote participation on Moot Court and Law Review, and they have numerous clubs and activities to be a part of. The one downfall to the school is its location - it's in the heart of LA, so it's a busy area full of traffic and some not-so-nice areas of town to live in. Housing is pretty expensive near the campus, though it does on-campus housing available.
Grace Book Shack
I've visited this church a few times. It's an extremely large church with a big sanctuary and a few different services. The preacher is very well-known - John MacArthur - and his preaching is very academic. He's a knowledgeable man and has written several Biblical commentaries and studies. The worship uses the praise style - it seemed a bit dry to me, but I'm sure other folks enjoyed it. The church is just very large, so it was bigger than I was looking for at the time.
Grace Baptist Church
My parents attend this church weekly, and I've visited for holidays. It seems like a very good church for young families - there are a lot of children's opportunities and classes. The church just remodeled, so they have a very large sanctuary that means you are guaranteed a seat! The worship team is good - the church has a great choir for young adults too. Pastor Tom preaches most of the time, and he seems like a very nice and Biblically centered pastor. The church is on the larger side but has a very good atmosphere.
Heritage Wine Co
Heritage is one of the best wine shops and bars in town. There is a bar that seats about 15-20 people and one waiter/waitress who serves glasses of wine. A glass might be as cheap as $5 or as much as $15 or $20, but the nice thing is that you can taste a few before choosing the glass you want to pay for. The shop also has a good selection of wines which are reasonably priced. It's a fun place to go to drink or just buy a few bottles.
Anita L Sorenson
Anita is an awesome female Christian therapist who is well-trained and very gifted at what she does. I've seen Anita for almost a year now and it's been well worth my money. She is a private practitioner, so doesn't accept health insurance. But she is very knowlegeable and she really has helped me to understand myself better. Through our weekly meetings, she has helped me to grasp a better picture of the person I am and the person I was created to be. I highly recommend Anita for Christian men and women, especially those are wrestling with some kind of mental disorder.
Christian Assembly
This is a great church for families and young adults. Christian Assembly has a male preacher who is very down to earth and application focused. He is very challenging and friendly. The congregation itself is made up of mostly families and young adults. It has a very authentic feel. The worship is especially good, and as I'm worshipping I really feel like people are sensing God's presence and being real. The only downfall is that the sanctuary is pretty small, so if you want a seat, you must arrive early or at the latest on time!
Sierra Madre Congregational
I visited this church recently with a friend and really enjoyed it. It was much smaller than I was used to - the sanctuary probably held 150-200 people - but it had a good feel to it. There was a pretty good diversity age-wise - didn't see too many young adults but more families and married couples. The worship seemed real and authentic. The sanctuary itself is beautiful. If you are looking for a small church feel, this one would be good to try.
Antiques On Fair Oaks
This store has a large selection of true antiques - unique pieces (ie furniture, artwork, collectibles) that are from the 1800 and 1900s - but most of them are very expensive. If you are looking to spend money and value the ancestry of such pieces, this is a great store - but if you're looking to spend the kind of money you'd spend at IKEA or Target, this store is not for you. I picked up a piece of artwork that we would have paid $50 for it was actually marked at $1500. So for the true antique lover, you'll enjoy this place!
