My boss suggested I give these guys a call when I had some international travel plans that were a little beyond me. Turn around time for getting info on flight options was very good and the cost of the flights were quite competitive (I checked!)
Be sure to ask for Loretta; she's great!
PROS: Don't need to be local to use these guys!
The Getty is really working towards making itself a fun family destination. They have a children's discovery room with fun activities for kids of all ages. The gardens are a great place to take a nature walk too. Plus, when it is lunch time, they sell an affordable PB & J that is delicious! A half day visit works best for us.
PROS: Family Fun
CONS: Galleries not really for kids
I stopped by this bakery out of curiosity, because it is on my way to work. Boy am I glad that I did. Now whenever I am in need of pastries at work or home, I stop here. Fresh baked breads and cookies and unbelievable pastries. Really great for special events. They also have a cafe if you want to eat there and have a coffee. You will NOT be sorry you gave these guys a chance.
PROS: Never disappointed!
CONS: Be prepared to wait in line.
We waited forever on a not-so-busy night. Both of our meals tasted like a frozen entree, at best. The bathrooms were, to limit it to one word, unclean. This might be a good bar with good nightlife, I don't know, but do not go there for a tasty meal! Won't be back!
CONS: Dirty, Bad Service, Below Average Food
Since I was a kid, Monroeville Mall is where we've done all our shopping for birthdays, holidays and whatever. They have a great play yard for the kids that has a Mr. Rodgers' Neighborhood theme. Now when I have to run out there to get something, the errand becomes a treat for my daughter because we always make a stop at the play area. (Sometimes we get a yummy treat from the food court too!)
Visit the big stores, Kauftman's, JC Penny's or Macy's or one of the many smaller stores for whatever you are looking for!
This is the bakery where my mom's family went when I was a kid. Years later we always get fresh baked bread when we are in Shady Side from Prantl's (I think it was the potato bread that my grandma always ordered ooh and the raisin bread, yummy!). The big treat was that you could always pick out your favorite cookie before leaving--what a hard decision. I have never bought anything at Prantl's that wasn't delicious.
PROS: Reasonable prices, everything is delicious
CONS: Parking can be tough in Shady Side
We recently attended a baby shower at the Carousel and it is the perfect place to have a party. All the kids got arm bands so they could go on the carousel as many times as they wanted. Which is great because kids can get antsy at a grown-up party. Whenever they did, we'd go for a stroll on the board walk or another ride. I would only call the party space semi-private because although it was roped off, we did have people (either clueless or rude) walk right through the party. As far as I was concerned, it was just part of the fun.
PROS: Keeps the kids entertained
CONS: Party area is only semi-private
This is a great place for quality time with the kids. I especially like that they have a small area just for toddlers, with things just their size. Don't forget your socks because it is a "no shoes" area, but if you do, they have them on sale. Climb, run, jump, and play!
I always enjoy going in to the salon, I like the energy and friendly faces. I'm also a real big fan of the products, very sweet and citrus aroma. Squirrel Hill is a great place to spend the afternoon. Also, there is plenty of parking in the back.
I took an on camera class at the Audition Studio with Rachael Patterson that was just great. I liked that they kept the class size small. There was a required seminar that you had to take before you begin classes that I didn't find informational but other then that, great class.
