Bay 1 Hour Cleaners
Bay 1 Hour Cleaners did a good job with my dry cleaning. Stains were removed, clothes smelled fresh. I was satisfied with the service, although I'm not sure how much extra it costs for 1 hour service. My order took several days. They don't have coin-operated washers & dryers. I'm not sure if they have a laundry service.
Home Box Video
Home Box Video is a great video store. They always have great movies on the shelves and you don't have to go through the hassle of a large video store. New releases are $3.25 and come with a $1 coupon for the most excellent Sparky's burgers next storeor the drycleaners. There's no ordeal involved with renting a movie here. Funny thing that we found was movies we were waiting 4 months for through Netflix were on the shelf here.
Berkeley Bowl
Berkeley Bowl is an independent, full-service supermarket. They have an enormous produce selection with lots of organic choices and great prices. Great fish, meat, cheese, wines, beers. A really fun place to shop, with lots of healthy choices. The store is super crowded on weekends and somewhat frustrating, but worth it for the prices and selection.
Jiffy Lube
This is the best Jiffy Lube I've ever been to. It's quick and they do a great job. They don't try to con you into unnecessary repairs and get you out the door in a jiffy. They keep the promise. The waiting room is clean, comfortable and stocked with a nice selection of magazines.
Poppy Fabric
Poppy Fabrics has a colorful selection of upholstery and lighter fabrics. Plus all the accoutrements for completing a project. As a beginning sewer, I've found the staff very interested and helpful with the projects I'm working on. They know the merchandise really well, which is amazing considering how many different fabrics they carry.
Orchard Supply Hardware
when your project is too big for the neighborhood hardware store, OSH is the place to go. it's much calmer than Home Depot and you can actually find people to help you. The Berkeley location is particularly pleasant to shop at. The staff is very knowlegable and want to help out. They also have a great garden section with a replacement policy if you kill something. OSH carries the Kenmore line of tools.
Hegenberger Arco
With the high price of gas these days, it's always nice to know where to go for cheap gas. This Arco consistently has the lowest prices around, they have lots of pumps and are good to know about when you are near the airport or the colliseum and need gas.
Brass & Glass
Brass & Glass specializes in iron beds, fireplace screens & equipment and lighting. They have a large selection of high quality, made in America brass & iron. They publish a coupon every month in the SF Chronicle Sunday magazine. I bought my bed there and have been very happy with the quality. The delivery & set up was excellent also. They came on time and set up perfectly.
Moyers Paint Co
Moyers is a family run paint store. They carry the Benjamin Moore line of paints. The staff are experienced painters and I found them to be very helpful and willing to share their knowlege. I made several trips for samples before I bought anything and was treated with courtesy during each visit. The paint prices are very good compared to other dealers, other supplies are cheaper at the local chains.
Raimondi's Montclair Paint
Raimondi's carries Benjamin Moore paints. One of the advantages of Benjamin Moore paints is that they offer sample sizes in about 160 colors. Raimondi's is consistently out of stock of most of the colors. The staff are not helpful and not very friendly. The prices are also higher than other Benjamin Moore paint dealers in the area. I recommend trying another Benjamin Moore paint dealer.
