Yoga Props
Yoga Props has a Web site where you can order various yoga supplies. Since they are located in the Mission, you can also go in-store to buy their yoga supplies. I wouldn't recommend doing that! They are rather rude and not friendly at all if you go in and try to buy something there. They are not set up for retail, one-off sales apparently and are incredibly slow if you do go into the store. Either buy something off the Web site or shop elsewhere.
Four Star Video
Besides the latest releases, Bernal Heights video store Four Star video stocks a great selection of hard-to-find documentaries, short films, and other unique selections. Of course, you can also find the latest blockbuster there as well as episodes of Sex and the City and the Sopranos! You can also buy pre-paid blocks, which provide a further discount to the already-reasonable prices.
Blumengarten
Blumengarten has a great selection of flowers and will make you up a wonderful, creative bouquet for any occasio. It is located on Cortland Street, the main shopping strip of Bernal Heights. There is easy parking on the street and friendly service to be had there.
Painters Place
For your very finest fine art pieces, bring them to Painter's Place in Hayes Valley. Prices are expensive but Painter's Place is THE place to go for primo framing and an eye for design in San Francisco. They have framed several pieces for me, and really came up with creative approaches. The owner, whose last name happens to be Painter, sells his artwork on the premises. I think they also have a Marin County location in Larkspur.
Rancho La Puerto
Grab some girl friends and head to Rancho La Puerta for a week of beauty, calm, and relaxation plus more yoga, pilates, NIA, hiking, and other exercise that you can imagine. This is the spa for those who do not need a lot of frills. The spa week runs from Saturday-Saturday so you do develop a comraderie with the other spa-goers during your time there. The food is only so-so but you're not there for amazing food, right?
Whole Foods Market
No doubt if you live in San Francisco you already know Whole Foods Market. The first SF location is in Pacific Heights but the newer South of Market location (4th and Harrison) is even better! It has a great prepared foods section so you can pick up dinner on your way home from work. It also has a wonderful seafood selection and fresh butcher and fruits to die for!
Good Life Grocery
Head on over to Bernal Heights or Potrero Hill for a great locally-owned, non-chain natural foods grocery store. The Bernal store recently expanded and they have a great selection of meats, cheeses, and even freshly-prepared sushi. My only complaint is that they need to have a better prepared-foods section.
Flax Art & Design
Flax has everything you need to inspire the budding artist in your or to serve the actual artist's needs. They carry a full-range of art supply stores plus they have a really good framing department and excellent gifts. With free parking in front and behind the building, what more could you ask for (besides longer, more convenient after-work hours)?
Essential Accupuncture
Marliesse Warren is a great acupuncturist. She sees people in the first floor room of her home in Eureka Valley. I saw her for treatment of Bell's Palsy and she was really great -- knew just what to do and developed a course of treatment that was right on target and healed my problem in due time. I highly recommend her for all types of pains and problems.
Glen Park Cleaners
Glen Park Cleaners is conveniently located in the heart of Glen Park at the corner of Chenery just a block or two from the BART station. They are very efficient and accommodating and have done a great job with all of my dry cleaning needs for the past five years or more. They have longish hours so you can go there after work too.
