I like this neighborhood store for a quick shop for necessities or a late night trip for beer or ice cream. This location is not as updated as the downtown location but most of this store has been recently remodeled. I'm not sure why they missed doing the floor, maybe we should start a collection! Snag a Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake in different flavors or some Krispy Kreme donuts for a late night sugar binge. Karen is my favorite checker and most of the staff is eccentric but helpful.
PROS: Late Hours, Easy Parking
CONS: Busy Many Times of Day
When the renovations are over, I hope this zoo will continue to please all the adults and children who love to visit the animals that live here in beautiful enclosures. My favorite is the sloth exhibit, but be prepared to be hot and moist for a moment while you search for one. Go see the gibbons on their newly renovated island and visit the baby lion and its parents. Take a picnic and have it on the grass. Don't forget $1 dollar off coupon from the SBC phonebook.
Try this relaxed upscale place for light Italian dishes and specials with wine and desserts. I like sitting in the main room off to the side or try a table in the covered room with table heaters to ward off any chill. Service has been good in the past over 7 plus years of eating here at least several times a year. Make a reservation to ensure you have the spot you want for your special dinner out or party with family.
My man and I love to starve ourselves as much as humanly possible before going to this joint and settling in a corner to tuck into their famous hot garlic rolls. Make sure to keep agreeing to more rolls as they sufficiently prepare your stomach by stretching it with harmless carbs before the bomb hits. The bomb being the cauldron of pasta with any variety of toppings you like. Be sure to say you are picky and start reciting the ingredients from the menu starting with the type of pasta, choose a sauce and additions that sound good to you, and they will likely make it. Then wash it down with some red wine that you tally all by yourself on the table paper. Just don't forget your boxes of leftovers as this is the whole point of eating so many rolls.
Try it out for lunch and sit at a tiny outdoor table. At lunch you can order a 1/4 size order rather than just half or whole, and I would recommend it because even that size leaves leftovers. Or just catch a drink at their full bar - they often have yummy specials to try!
The potential problem with asking for a special pasta dish made from your own chosen ingredients and sauce is that even though your server may get it right, often the cookline does not...the last two times i have eaten here i have received the wrong order. Despite the fact that they are happy to accomodate special orders, reality often throws a wrench in it. However, the service was still excellent and our server was sincerely apologetic and gave us a complimentary tiramisu to smooth things over...I will continue to be a customer no matter what.
PROS: Huge Portions
CONS: Huge Portions
Personal service and custom gifts with card for your wedding guests or wedding couple's honored family guests. If you are planning a wedding in beautiful Santa Barbara, you will love the tasteful and varied choices provided with room for your own ideas to take shape. Requests for additions or changes to existing card types are easily accommodated and Barbara is a wonderful listener to the needs of any bride. Wedding treasure chests and trunks are offered filled with gifts of all varieties and individual shells in fabric bags are a cost effective and lasting way to commemorate your special day.
A great addition to the neighborhood aside from the poorly designed lot with traffic issues constantly cropping up for regular users of De La Vina. Otherwise, I love buying fresh flowers here for a last minute hostess gift. They always have things stocked and fresh and the staff is helpful. Try my new favorite in the dairy section - Greek yogurt with honey in the same foil topped container. Perfect for a picnic basket fill up with your loved one.
PROS: convenient location
CONS: Horrible parking
I love having the vegetarian sandwich on focaccia bread with carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, cream cheese served with soup or salad and chips. Or try the goat cheese chicken salad. Also great for breakfast is the french toast or just a huge mug of hot chocolate with whip cream. Service is generally speedy and courteous. Amber used to serve me regularly and was so sweet I continue to return to this day.
PROS: Indoor and outdoor seating with views of State St.
CONS: Parking not direct for a quick drive by take out
Unless your best buddy works here, there is no point in crossing their threshold for expensive and not so great clothing. Not to mention the owners are hardly the fashion gurus they fancy themselves. When I think back to past experiences of this store in its former location when they sold real vintage clothes and had much better service it makes me sad. I never shop here anymore and I would rather spend my money elsewhere.
I have loved shopping here since i was a child living in another state and shopping in another store, but the smells and products are the same. Wonderful selection of home products, my favorite things are the lamps, baskets, and window shades. Also check out the fun and inexpensive kids toys, they are fun stocking stuffers or present toppers. Extensive gift wrap and blank card section too that must be utilized in a pinch! Run in the back door and grab a sample of coffee, yum!
PROS: large selection of gifts, wonderful wine section, reasonable prices
Sit indoors or at one of the couple outdoor tables to enjoy any of their yummy menu selctions. Try something from the specials menu, the chefs cook up some creative and filing dishes that won't break the bank. My favorite lunch is the vegetarian sandwich served with chips and tabouleh. The cookies for $1 from the dessert menu are great to take with back to the office for a midday snack! An extensive drink menu with a beverage for every taste too.
PROS: Friendly service, great prices, relaxed atmosphere
CONS: no parking except on street
