Walk This Way Shoes
If I were to buy walking shoes, Dansko or Born, then I would surely buy them here but alas I have not actually purchased anything here. I went in looking for the new New Balance walking shoe and the lady who helped me was so nice and she even pointed out a sticker on my jeans that I had forgotten to remove. I loved this place and I love Honolulu Street in Montrose, the little storefronts and the people are so friendly.
Azeen's
I was so excited when my friend suggested we try eating here. It was so good and the service was friendly and personal. It made me want to go to Afghanistan myself. I love the cardamom tea and the kabobs with all the spices. Go here and support the family that runs the place!
Southwest Museum-American Indn
Well, I haven't been here in a while but when I did visit this museum for one of their Pow Wow events, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted, I am not much of a crafts person and can only look at so many pieces of pottery and baskets but they have a variety of sections beyond just art pieces on display. I enjoy the historical part and will go here eventually when I need inspiration for a story, want to connect the kids I work with to their own culture or others culture or just for the experience.
Universal Towing
I went here a while back because it was AAA approved and had OK service. Then, a friend went and they priced repairs on his car way higher than another local shop and so he stopped going to this place. Then, I went two months ago to get a flat tire repaired and they screwed it up so that when I went to get my tire replaced at Big O Tires, they refused to cover the warranty because of the poor patch job. So, I went to get my money back and he argued with me about it. Granted, I made mistakes but he his customer service was poor and he didn't even care. Sometimes I just wish that mechanics would be honest so you could make the best decision but they are not always out for the customer.
PROS: Local and AAA approved
CONS: Poor customer service
Laemmle Theatres Playhouse 7
Many a good movie has been watched here by me. I like the place and I know that I can always get a Mexican Mocha before I go in, next door at the cafe in Vroman's, but I can't recall the name. I love that I can see movies from countries around the world, including Kazakhistan. I wish it didn't cost so much to see movies but I will pay if I really want to see it.
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
This place provides a wonderful service to the community through workshops and classes for education professionals, students and families. They also have wonderful musical performances scheduled on their yearly calendar. I enjoy the multi-cultural and global performance groups and hope that they continue to build this up.
El-Internet.Com
A friend from the community started this business and I want to support him in his endeavour. He is providing computer repairs, an Internet cafe, and other technology services out of his storefront on Broadway in Lincoln Heights. Prices are reasonable and it is a needed service in the community.
Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club
The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club is a year-round after school program located in Lincoln Heights. The Club offers programs in Education, Career Development, Health & Life Skills, Technology, Recreation & Sports, and Arts & Culture. The doors are open to children and youth ages 6-18 years of age. It is a safe and positive place for kids to play, grow, socialize and for staff and volunteers to help develop them to their fullest potential, especially kids in the urban core who have many challenges that block them from reaching that on their own.
Black Cow Cafe
I discovered this place one weekend when I went up to Montrose on a lark. I went in and ordered an iced coffee drink and it came with sweet cream. I love this place so I go here whenever I am taking a "day off" which is not very often. The food is also really good. I ordered something I can' t quite remember now as it was last summer but I remember liking it :)
El Buen Sabor Restaurant
I love pupusas and have not had them in years until I went with co-workers to this tiny restaurant across from Albertson's in the Mt. Washington area. Soooo goooood! Loved the food and the walls are painted with amazingly beautiful murals and there is a jukebox with nothing but songs in Spanish. Loved it!
