Tiffany Diner
We've gone here many times, because we used to live very close by. The food is always good, but you can you can also pretty much guarantee that employees will be getting yelled at at least once during your dining experience. You might even get to witness several tirades. My children actually got scared once. The diner is always crowded, because as I mentioned, the food is pretty good. Just make sure you get seated at a table far away from where the host/owner stands.
PROS: good food
CONS:
Bridgeview Diner
We've been eating at Bridgeview for many years, and have never had any problems other than the occasional waitress that wasn't the best. The food has always been good and fresh, and the host is always friendly and accommodating. About a year ago, they renovated the diner, so everything looks much more modern inside now. There is ample parking in the rear and on the side. No major complaints here.
PROS: good food, good service, friendly
CONS:
Astor Place Hair Designers
What I really love about this place is that ANYONE can come here for a haircut, no matter what your style is. To give you an example, I went to Astor Place when I was in my teens and went through all those awful 80's hairstyles, and I went when I was in my 20s and needed a conservative but awesome haircut. They can cut your hair any way you want it, and style it any way, as well. If you want coloring, you need to come here. It costs an arm and a leg in most places, but not at Astor, and they do an awesome job. Whether you want highlights, a buzz cut, or a hot pink mohawk, Astor Place is the place to go.
PROS: High quality cuts for a low price
CONS:
Englishtown Lingerie
The prices are very good here, but you have to realize that some of the items here are irregulars and of poor quality. However, some are also legitimate brand-name overstocks. I've gotten some decent deals here on bras and socks in the past, but I've also gotten some socks that were awful and got all "pilly" after just one washing. You just have to know your labels, brands, and what to look for when shopping.
PROS: good prices
CONS: some items are poor quality
Childrenswear Centre
This store is alright if you don't mind your children wearing "no-name" clothing. Kids outgrow things so quickly, that it's worth checking this store out. I've found some decent shirts here, as well as some nice pajamas. The quality of the pants and jeans wasn't worth it--they shrunk about 2 inches in length after one washing. You can find some pretty good quality items here, but you have to look. Sometimes you have to check back at a later date, because they always carry different items. You will usually get what you pay for.
PROS: inexpensive children's clothing
CONS: sometimes sub-par quality
A Casola Farms
A Casola Farms is more than just a nursery. It's a venue. You will find the most gorgeous flowers, plants and trees here, as well as breathtaking, hard to find exotic greenery. They have various events at Casola year-round, as well, including a pumpkin patch, haunted hay ride, tractor rides, corn mazes, pony rides, a petting zoo, and even a western, rootin', tootin' frontier show on the weekends. Many of the local schools take class trips here in the fall. During the holiday season, they have beautiful live Christmas trees and pointsettia plants, as well as homemade gourmet jams, jellies, sauces, and more. My whole family loves this place!
PROS: great selection and great fun
CONS: none
Cerlione's Lawn & Garden Equip
We've bought lots of things from Cerlione's, and have been very pleased. Their prices are good, as is the service. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they have a good selection of the most popular brand name machines to choose from. Last winter, we wanted something that was on backorder, so we left a deposit, and as soon as the item was in stock, they called us. Very good customer service!
PROS: good customer service, good prices, good selection
CONS:
Ethel's Uniforms
I started buying my uniforms and shoes here years ago, right after graduating from nursing school. Ethel's has a large selection of all brands of uniforms, in all price ranges. They also carry nursing shoes, including Nurse Mates. The prices are very good, and the location is great. They're only a few blocks from Maimonides Hospital. The sales associates are knowledgeable and helpful, and I always left the store with several large shopping bags without breaking the bank.
PROS: great prices, great selection, friendly staff, great location
CONS:
M C Comics & Cards
This is a great place to take a young child when you want to introduce them to comic books, and the hobby of collecting. The guys who work here are friendly and helpful, and they really do have tons and tons of books to weed through. It looks a bit run down on the outside and is definitely messy on the inside, but part of the fun is sorting through the chaos. Like another reviewer mentioned, the location isn't ideal, and it's definitely scary driving over there because the road is narrow and lots of people speed along there.
PROS: good selection, wide variety of all sorts of comic books
CONS:
Denny's Childrenswear
I decided to check this store out one day, when I wanted to do some shopping for my kids for summer clohting. The outside of the store is unattractive, and the window display usually looks "cheap." It reminds me of a "ten dollar store" window. When I went in, I was greeted not by a "hello" but by a bored glance, and I was given the once-over by the associate. I immediately felt uncomfortable. I found a couple of outfits that were alright, but nothing I loved and had to have for the prices. You'd be better off going to Kohl's or TJ Maxx, both of which are right in the same shopping center.
PROS: good location
CONS: on the expensive side, sales associates not friendly
