An absolutely delightful treat... this tea house serves up tantalizing teas and delicious confections reminiscent of a truly fancy "tea time" in the British tradition. The dishes, primarily thin sandwiches and other fancy finger foods (e.g. scones with Devonshire cream) live up to the mouthwatering descriptions in the menu... and with names like "Her Lady's Respite" and "The Duchess' Delight", the atmosphere of elegance never skips a beat. And all this comes around a very reasonable $20 per person. Be sure to come for the long haul, enjoying the option to try as many teas as you like! This is a perfect place to take your loved one for a special date or your little ones for their "first tea"!
PROS: Delightful environment pleasing on the eyes, delicious tea
CONS: Set tea times on weekends, either 12 or 3
Had a tail-light replaced in my Jetta, without any wait! And they didnt charge me a dime!! They were also hugely helpful when I described other problems with my car and let me know about how much I may expect to pay (which happened to be less than half of what the dealership was asking.) Im definitely going back here for any future problems.
PROS: Quick, inexpensive, friendly
While University Ave boasts its own small army of Coffee Cafes, you have to venture off to the side streets to find this hidden gem. From the moment you walk in, you'll be delighted by the wide assortment of delicious chocolate confections... hope you saved room for dessert! While the coffees are generally comparable in quality to their University Ave peers, the Spicy Mayan chocolate milk is not to be missed... one taste and you'll think you're in a scene from the film Chocolat
PROS: Delicious coffees in large, pleasing mugs... the way coffee cafes should be
CONS: Not very many tables most occupied for hours by yuppies on laptops
In an era when every fast-food joint claims to offer premium salads, Plutos is the Real Deal: Delicious fresh salads in generous portions made-to-order with your choice of grilled chicken or steak and up to seven veggie add-ons, including everything from broccoli to baked potatoes (personal favorite: candied walnuts.) Finally, top it off with one of four dressings, and for around $6.00 you have one of University Aves best values and its healthy too! Plutos also offers sandwiches and a number of other homestyle dishes (think Thanksgiving), but people come for the salads. If youre willing to put up with the inordinate >10 minute wait, definitely try the hot wings. One possible negative is that the cafeteria style dining has you waiting in a potentially long line the moment you arrive.
PROS: Great salads with a wide variety of veggies. Great prices.
CONS: Side dishes are hit-or-miss. Lines. May be difficult to get a table.
