Nates Pharmacy is small, but they have a friendly staff and a very good pharmacist. They often host the visiting nurses association when they perform flu shots each year, and it is a convenient location to get to. The store itself has a great selection of over the counter items as well. I bought some cough syrup when I was in there once, and their prices were comparable to CVS and other chain drugstores.
Bard Cleaners does a good job on your average items (mens dress shirts and suits). They have reasonable prices and the staff is very nice. I prefer to bring my dry clean only items here because it is convenient, there's usually always room in the parking lot or on the nearest side street, and they have my items ready when promised. I'm in and out of here in less than five minutes, which is great when you're busy.
Key Food Supermarket is a small grocery store/supermarket, that is convenient for emergencies and the odd item that you need for a recipe. Its really not a great idea to shop here weekly because their prices are higher than other grocery stores nearby. The small size is great when you're running in for a few items because it is usually not crowded and its easy to find what you need. The store is always clean and well maintained, and most of the employees are helpful and friendly.
I admit, I don't buy a lot of liquor and wine. But I do come to Richmond Liquors for cheap Australian wines that they sell for about $2 a bottle. I use it mainly for cooking, which is great because I don't have to spend a lot of money just for wine to cook with. I must say that they do have great prices on wine and liquor. When buying gifts for friends and family, Richmond Liquors has the best prices on individual bottles and gift sets.
A F Bennet is an excellent spa. From the moment you walk through the door, you are pampered. I went here for a spa package, and the massage was excellent. You get a very large choice of lotions with varying scents. The spa pedicure is probably the most relaxing moment of all, well worth getting. Each aspect of the salon, massages, manicures and pedicures, haircuts, showers, are all separate and private. The atmosphere is of complete and utter luxury. I would definitely recommend the services at A F Bennett.
Dr. Helfand is a great optometrist. They accept many different union, and have a great selection of their own frames. They have flexon glasses which can be bent and twisted and will not break. They have good prices on lenses, whether you wear single vision, bifocals or progressives. It was easy to make an appointment with Dr. Helfand's office, and the exam was fast and thorough. I had my glasses within a week.
New Best Nails is a good mid-priced salon to go to for manicures and tips. They are conveniently located at the corner of 4th Ave and 85th St. They accept walk ins and appointments. The technicians spend a lot of time on your nails and do a great job. They are well worth going to for a complete set of nail tips, or for just a fill in. I know a couple of women who go there because the service is good, and the prices are very reasonable.
Zoe Salon is great for hair coloring and styling. I have gotten highlights there and I was thrilled with the results. I had no idea what I wanted or what colors would be good for me, and the colorist that I had was wonderful. She made me feel comfortable, and I was confident that she knew what she was doing. I gave her full control, and I am glad that I did. They also do great updos for weddings and sweet 16's. I would definitely recommend Zoe Salon. They are pretty expensive, but worth every penny.
I have seen a lot of advertising for Christinas Pet Styles, and I know a few dog owners who go there for grooming. My friend's dogs all look clean, neat and cute especially with the bows and accessories that Christinas Pet Styles has for pets. They also have some services for cat owners as well. In addition to grooming, they also offer tips for cat's claws to prevent scratching and ruining furniture. This is a great alternative to declawing.
Peddlers World has an unusual assortment of household items, cleaning items, school supplies and collectibles. They always have something new, and they are very popular for back to school items. They offer cigarettes and lotto, which accounts for a lot of business. They sell candy and beverages as well. Peddlers World is an interesting store to visit from time to time, as you never know what you'll find.
