For the last 15 years I've been driving Town & County/Grand Caravan minvans. Wanted a change, not that the kids are getting older. I still needed the cargo space for my son's drums and bass and amp, though, and had no desire to go to a small car. The Flex fit the bill but I didn't think I could get one in my price range. After working with the sales manager and then Andrew, salesperson, we managed to get a lease that fit my budget, and in fact was $50 less than any quote I'd received for the minvan this year. Got the car, and the payments are exactly what he quoted, no hidden entras or anything. I love the ride of this car, the feel of it. My ony complaint is a lack of room for the driver for all my "stuff". The minivan had 2 glove compartments and a cargo box between the seats, where my purse went. This has the gear shift in the middle and a very small storage box, my purse won't fit. So I had a bunch of stuff that was in the boxes in my old car that I can't fit anywhere in this one. Guess I just have to stop filing my car with junk.
I have had kids at this school for 7 years now and will be there for 4 more, so I am very familiar with Jefferson Elementary.
The school is a Blue Ribbon Award school. Three years ago we got a new young principal, a very dynamic lady who is very enthusiastic and ambitious for our school.
This year the school is getting some major remodeling done, with a new gym and more classrooms being added, as well as updated heating/cooling and more.
One thing I really like is that class sizes are small. My 1st grader has 19 kids in his class.
The school is very community oriented and has many fundraisers throughout the year to help others. Last week we did a huge Katrina Fundraiser to raise money for playground equipment for an elementary school in New Orleans.
PROS: Great staff, Small Class Sizes
CONS: Parking lot is a problem, too small for number of cars arriving
When I stood up for my cousin's wedding, she had found a very pretty dress here that was very reasonably priced for her bridesmaids.
Unfortunately, anything over a size 12 is considered a PLUS size, and tacks on an extra $50 for extra material. Alterations also cost extra.
When I was measured, the woman told me I needed a certain size. When the dress arrived, it was HUGE and needed tons of alterations. I was sure that she had ordered the wrong size or measured wrong. The saleswoman insisted that I had lost 4 inches in my waist in the 4 weeks since she had measured me. Would have been nice, but I really doubt that I had.
I had to go in several times for alterations and almost every time I went in, it had to be taken in more. My final cost was double what the original dress price was and I still had a bit of trouble with the top of the dress fitting right.
PROS: Good selection, good prices
CONS: Costs get expensive, alterations were an issue
I have been involved in booking assemblies for my son's elementary school for 5 years, and Mobile Ed Productions has some of the best assemblies around. In addition, they are very reasonably priced. Our budget for assemblies kept getting smaller and prices for many assemblies kept growing.
The student's favorites are the StarLab Planetarium where they bring in a giant blowup planetarium that the kids go in and learn about the stars, and the Earth Dome, another giant inflatable where they learn about the earth.
They have some great programs for Women's History, science programs and history. You can have Thomas Edison do an assembly!
They have a great selection and are very good at working wiht you to find shows that meet your school curriculum and budget.
PROS: Great assemblies and reasonably priced
My son's school has had Chris Linn perform several educational assemblies. His shows are a lot of fun, while being educational. He has several different shows, including Dollars And Sense, the last one we had. The kids enjoy the show and it is appropriate for grades k-5. His magic makes the kids laugh and learn. The shows are interactive and keep the children's attention, and the teachers enjoy it as well.
PROS: Entertaining and Educational
CONS: Not enough new shows to have back every year
I have had four different friends hire Dan Dan the Choo Choo Man for children's parties. The kids absolutely love him. He shows up with this little train that drives through the side streets and takes the kids for rides. The train is big enough for adults and can hold about 8 kids or so at a time. the kids go for a quick ride around the block, then the next kids get to go. The man is dressed like an engineer and is happy to pose for pictures and let you take all the pictures you want of the kids and the train.
This is great for kids under 7, but the older kids were not as impressed by the train.
PROS: Lots of fun for little kids
CONS: Older kids are bored
I had a problem with my van's engine rusting. My auto repair shop told me I needed to take it to a body shop to be repaired, they couldn't fix it.
I took it to one place and got an estimate that was extremely high in my opinion. Then I took it here. The man took a look and recommended not even bothering to fix it. He explained that the price I had received was actually low for the amount of work, and that it could not really guarantee that it would last since the reason for the rusting was a problem with the hood leaking. It would cost more to fix it than the car was worth. I was impressed with his honesty and willingness to give up a large expensive job to save me the headaches.
PROS: Honest estimates, saved money
CONS: Didn't have any actual work done
We leased a van from here a while back and found the sales staff very helpful. They went out of their way to find us exactly what we wanted and arrange a good leasing deal. They kept in touch with us to make sure that we were satisfied with our van, reminded us of any maintenance needed and checked back several times to make sure that we were satisfied. As our lease neared its end, they let us know about upcoming deals.
We were very pleased with our lease vehicle and decided to buy one when the lease expired. Unfortunately, they didn't have in stock what we wanted, and the wait for a vehicle with our requirements was too long for us to wait.
PROS: Excellent salestaff
CONS: Didn't have in stock what we wanted.
When my husband was looking for a new van, many dealers did not have any full size vans in stock. Dorian Ford had the best inventory of in stock vehicles, and we were able to find exactly what we wanted on the lot. They gave us a good deal on thepurchase, too. The sales people were friendly and not pushy.
PROS: Vans in stock, good prices
CONS: Not close to home
I have a lease vehicle and have needed some minor service on it several times. Twice I have taken it to Oakland Dodge because they were able to get me in quickly when I called, unlike other dealers which couldn't give me an appointment for several days to a week.
Their service staff is very professional and prompt. They took care of me as soon as I came in, and I got my van back quickly when I took it in. I have had no trouble there at all.
PROS: Reliable and fast service
