Rite Aid
Rite aid's a good place to stop when you got to get something fast, and don't want to brave the crowds of a full grocery-type store. Everything from snacks, to over-the-counter medicine, to film development, they have many things. Their prices are fair and you won't spend much time in line, and of course they have a real pharmacy as well.
Joe Randazzo's Fruit & Veg Mkt
Randazzo is well known in the Detroit area, especially with chefs. Having worked at a restaurant in the Detroit area in the past, I was sent here plenty of times to get an emergency ration of veggies when we ran out. They are in a very large building, one the size of a small grocery store, and the place is usually packed with people buying things. Everything is very fresh and priced to sell, and they also have a wide assortment of exotic fruits and veggies, things you'd never find inside your local Kroger.
PROS: Low prices, tons of variety.
CONS:
Franks Nursery
Franks has alot of nice gardening supplies. Flowers, trees, seeds, all manner of tools, if you're in need of something for your garden, Franks has it. Some things tend to be a bit pricy, but plenty of it is around normal, and they have very nice, knowledgable staff. All in all, a good store to shop for gardening supplies.
PROS: Lots of flowers
CONS: Some things over-priced
Home Depot
I like the wide variety of inexpensive home improvement products the Home Depot carries. From chainsaws to fences to christmas trees (at Christmas, or course), they have it all. They also have friendly and helpful staff, and they don't hesitate to help you get big things to your vehicle if you need it. Overall, a very nice store.
PROS: Low prices, lots of things
CONS:
Bo Rics
Bo Rics is a decent chain barber/salon with decent prices. Everything is pretty much average here, and I can't say I go here anymore. Regardless, you can get a fairly decent haircut here, for a decent prices, and you can get it done without making an appointment. For people on the run, this may be great.
Zoological Park
The Detroit zoo is one of the larger zoo's I've been to. It's not the best (Toledo is my favorite), but it still has many beautiful animals on display. It also has a great layout, very detailed yet easy to read signs to guide you to and fro, and some of the best french fries in the world. Yes, this zoo has good food. Come to see the animals, but stay for the food!
Rogell Golf Course
Rogell Golf Course is a nice course to play at, but it has one serious flaw. It's too popular. Since the city of Detroit runs the place, they seem to be pretty badly understaffed, and the staff that do work there are extremely unfriendly, almost hostile. Based on their service alone, I give them a negative 5. However, the course itself has an interesting lay, challenging seasoned golfers yet still being fairly newbie friendly. The prices are cheaper than normal courses, as well.
PROS: Good prices
CONS: Terrible service
IMAX Dome Theatre
IMAX theater's are always pretty cool places, and this one is no different. It has extremely comfortable seating, and the shows, even if they are usually pretty boring, are fun none the less, since you literally feel like you are moving. There's nothing like seeing a movie about flying, and actually feeling like you are the. Neat trick of the senses.
Ford Wyoming Drive-In
If there were more drive-in theatre's around, I'd give this place 3 stars. It's got an extremely run down concession stand, it's in a terrible section of the city, and I'd swear half of the speaker-stands are broken. Considering the pleasure people seem to take in breaking those things, I can see why drive-ins are a thing of the past. Anyways, getting to see 2 movies for the price of one (not to mention *by the car* rates, is still a great thing. And I think everyone should experience a drive-in movie at least once in their lives, so it might as well be here.
PROS: Two movies for the price one one
CONS: Really run-down place
Redford Theatre
This theatre has class. It's a restored theatre from the 1920s, and they pretty much only show classic movies. However, the movies they show are truly classics, from Casablanca to Superman. The screen is massive, easily drawfing modern theatres, as do the balconies and overall size of the place. It only has one screen, and they only show films on the weekend at specific times, but regardless, it's an experience that shouldn't be missed. They also have wonderfully good prices on everything, you can actually get a good sized popcorn for cheap!
PROS: Atmosphere, price, classic movies
CONS:
