Pawz Pet Supply
Pawz Pet Supply is a little hard to find (left-hand side of the Celebration at Six Forks shopping center; beside Domino's), but I am glad I did find them. They offer plenty of organic foods for most pets and some foods that cannot be found at the larger pet chains. Their prices are great and the staff is very nice. I like the assortment of different treats for dogs and my dogs seem to like these treats too!
Classic Chimney Sweeps
Although the chimney sweep who came to my house from Classic Chimney Sweep did his job very well and managed to get very little soot on my carpet, I was very disappointed on his behavior otherwise. I had a controversial book lying on my coffee table that I was reading at the time. He looked at it and spent five minutes berating me about how people who read books like that are what is wrong with this world. I was very angry that I hired a company to come into my home to perform work and the representative of the company made character judgements on a client he knows nothing about except for a book on a coffee table.
Haywood Hall & Gardens
Haywood Hall has played host to a wedding I went to recently and it blew my mind that such an amazing house could go unnoticed in downtown Raleigh. The gardens have plenty of pathways so that the grass stays lush and green. There is a gazebo, where this wedding was held, that made the wedding feel a little more private although there were over 100 people in attendance. There's a great flow through the house with plenty of space for food, socializing and the like. Outback there is a joggling board that has to be experienced for a full understanding.
Cd Warehouse
The one time I have been to CD Warehouse I was very impressed by the store. I sold numerous CDs to them for good prices and was able to find a boxed set for a TV show at half the price it sells for in the stores. My friend was able to find a CD he had been searching for for about six months and it was half the price of a CD in any store. The man working there was also very friendly and recommended some obscure bands to my friend.
Byrne Mary - Triangle Family Svc
Triangle Family Services caters to numerous families and children throughout the Triangle. They hold classes to help men who have been convicted of domestic violence. They also have counseling for domestic violence victims, people with HIV/AIDS, children and many more groups. There is a large outreach to the Hispanic community as well. What caught my attention was that they offered financial counseling and informational classes on finances, which is often overlooked in disenfranchised communities. Anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity would do well to check into Triangle Family Services.
Edward McKay Used Books & More
My first experience with Edward McKay was in Greensboro and I have been hooked ever since. All of their inventory comes from people who trade their books, CDs, and movies in to the store. This is a great place to get lost in the stacks for a few hours and they cater to a large variety of clientele. Everyone from students selling text books to beachgoers unloading their paperbacks from the summer can be found at Ed McKay. There is a plethora of choices to be found and it is worth digging to find them.
Pinna Johnston & Burwell
Pinna, Johnston and Burwell is a nice law firm that works in various aspects of the law. In my experience the lawyers work with the client to help them understand everything in non-legalese. While writing power of attorneys and wills, I was able to deal with only one lawyer who was easy to contact and more than willing to help me get exactly what I was looking for. Their hourly prices are not astronomical like some law firms and everyone that I had contact with was friendly and approachable.
Swoozie's Inc
Swoozie's is the place to find that gift for the person who has everything. The merchandise ranges from monogrammed bags to personalized stationary to very modern home decor. Each section of the store is well designed and very attractively decorated to attract attention but it's not overwhelming. There is an area to correspond to the most recent holiday and an area for more basic gift needs such as plain stationary, cups, gift bags, etc. The staff is exceptionally friendly and they actually enjoy helping people pick out gifts. Since there is so much fun stuff in the store, don't expect to spend 5 minutes running in and back out again! You'll want to check everything out!
Visart Video
VisArt has the best selection of movie rentals period. The only thing that comes close in comparison is Netflix. VisArt has all the newest releases as well as completely obscure movies. It is a great location to find the Independent films that are not carried in larger chains, to get a flick for the children or to check out films that the staff recommends. This is one place that needs to expand its locations so that we can have the benefit of a store in Raleigh.
Cat's Cradle
Cat's Cradle plays host to a wide variety of musical acts all throughout the year. I have seen everyone from Edwin McCain to a completely obscure Indy Jazz fusion group there. The venue is large enough to hold a decent size group, but small enough so that all shows feel like you are watching with a hundred of your closest friends. Like most small music venues, it is smoky and loud, it is hard to find a seat sometimes, but all of that does not matter when the music is good and your friends are having a good time.
