I got into a tough situation and needed to borrow some money. The amount wasn't enough to warrant a bank loan and I didn't want to ask my family for a loan. Some friends suggested that I go to AMSCOT. Because of all the negative things I'd always heard about them, I was afraid to go there; however, I didn't have much alternative. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the people working there were. They didn't ask why I needed to borrow the money and didn't lecture me about managing my money better (as my family might have). In the end, it was a pleasant experience. AMSCOT helped me get through a difficult time in my life and made the situation a little easier for me.

Alan, Jerel and the other folks at Goin' Postal will do whatever they can to make you happy by getting your item packaged and shipped. They will ship packages via UPS, FEDEX and/or DHL. They sell all kinds of mailing supplied and will fax, notarize, copy, print and can even make you a rubber stamp while you wait. Not only are they friendly, they're also reliable and careful.

Sherwin-Williams

Maxcy's Mens Wear

When my husband and I got married, we had a casual afternoon wedding and we bought his suit from Bob's Men's Wear. They had a great variety for him to choose from and they fit the suit perfectly. They also rent tuxedos, if that is what you need. In fact, they were voted the #1 Tuxedo Shop in town.

Bob's Men's Wear has been in the same location for at least the last 20 years and they're easy to find - at the corner of Lakeview Drive and Kenilworth Boulevard.

Lampe & Kiefer Hearing Aid Center

I have some health problems which have caused me to have a hearing loss. I went to Lampe & Kiefer to have my hearing tested. Rosann Kiefer was very thorough in her assessment of my problem. Had I been able to use a hearing aid, I would have been able to choose from a variety of conventional or the latest digital hearing aids.

Oaks At Avon

I hate nursing homes. Both of my grandmothers had to live in nursing homes the last years of their lives. It is my fear that I'll have to live in one, too; however, if I ever have to live in a nursing home, I would probably choose the Oaks. A young friend of ours recently had to stay at the Oaks for several months after having emergency surgery which nearly killed him. When we went to visit him, there was no nursing home odor permeating the halls and he seemed to be happy with the care he received there. Also, it was voted the Best Nursing Home Assisted Living facility in Highlands County.

Simply Trish Catering

Whether you hold your special function at Trish's Pardise Grille or another location, Trish will do a great job catering it. She made our wedding cake and we were very happy with how beautiful it looked and how delicious it tasted. She was easy to work with, too.

Highland Hannock State Park

While this natural scrub land may not be very exciting to the computer-game-crazed kids of today, it is 845 acres of natural Florida. There are hiking and nature trails, a picnic area (with tables and a shelter only - no grills or water), fishing and lots of wildlife to see. Be sure to bring plenty of water, as there is none available at the park.

Highlands Little Theatre

While the shows given at Highlands Little Theatre cannot be compared to those at theaters in Tampa, Orlando and the larger cities which are within driving distance, the productions are certainly acceptable for a small town. This company has come a long way under the direction of Pete Pollard, but there is lots of room for improvement.

The Galleria

If you need help decorating your home interior, the designers at The Galleria - Dorry Christy, Rita Berman, Casey Gray and Janie Hopson - are the gals you need to call. Their sense of style is second to none. They were recently voted Highlands Today's People's Choice award for best Home Interior Designers.
