The team at City Truck Rental made my move so easy, I'd do it all over again! They rented me a 24' in great shape for a very competitive rate. I got all of my bubble wrap and boxes there and they supplied me with business cards for moving services. It's a completely different story but I hired one of their moving service suggestions and they were fantastic!
Case in point, Bill at City Truck Rental is a pleasure to speak with and rent from. If you need a moving truck, supplies, movers, and even extended passenger vans, Bill is the guy to call! 847-663-1940!
Okay, so the owner of this place has a really... strange attitude, but frankly, who cares!? He gave me a great deal on my new computer, and I couldn't be happier! He cuts a HELL of a deal, and I'm not joking. You've REALLY got to go and see for yourself. And he fixes computers, too. My friend's computer crashed on her, and he fixed it for practically nothing. Seriously.
He will also make CDs for you for a nominal fee, he rents his computers for $4/hr. internet access, and lets you print and copy anything for really cheap. And I mean cheap, way below average prices. You've REALLY got to go and check this out, man! I mean, it's like finding a gold mine! Go talk to Keith!
PROS: REALLY CHEAP PRICES, great service, top-notch work
CONS: Keith has an arrogant, rude attitude, but hey, don't we all sometimes?
I was so impressed with the huge selection of merchandise that EB Games had on their floor. There were BINS of very reasonably-priced previously-owned games, and every wall was crammed with brand new games. I mean, there were hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of games!
I was so thrilled when I found the game I had been looking for for less than $20! I mean, it was SHOCKING! And it was NEW! I could understand if the game was old, or it was given a really poor rating, but it was a considerably new game, and it got a 4-star rating under the strategy catagory. It was $16.95. I obviously bought it immediately, along with two other cool strategy games. I bought 3 games and didn't even spend $50!
I would recommend EB Games in Evanston, IL to ANYONE who is looking for a good game for a GREAT price! They are bound to have something that you'll like! And the best thing is, they have A LOT of locations, too! Look 'em up!
PROS: HUGE variety, friendly salespeople, fun environment
CONS: Ummm... none, actually!
I recently re-furnished a room in my home to a early 1900's theme, and BJ Antiques came in VERY handy! They had all the furniture that I needed, and my special room looks absolutely perfect now!
I have some of the most unique and gorgeous pieces, and they were really reasonable, considering the craftsmanship that went into them years ago, and the time (and skill) that it would take to restore the piece to just a fine state today. I am very pleased with every piece of furniture that I have purchased from them, and I would never shop from anyone but Ben for antiques! I recommend them to anyone with fine and tough-to-satisfy taste. You'll definitely find something that will make you say, "yes sir, that is definitely the piece I've been looking for!"
PROS: Respectable, professional, personable, family-owned business
CONS: A bit pricey for some
I have been to A Always Lou's (yes, that's the actual name on the "marquis" of the store) a few times, as I live relatively close by. I've been there for major occasion (holiday) purchases, and just random out-of-the-blue buys, and they never have ANYTHING - EVER.
All they ever have are plants. I'm sorry, but I don't buy people plants very often. I'm more of a flower person. However, if you like plants, I suggest them. But if you're looking for flowers for your sweetheart or something, steer clear. They never have anything to offer in that department.
And I don't know what they're talking about with gifts. They have a few balloons every now and then, but that's about it. They don't sell teddy bears or pretty planters or anything like that. Just balloons. Seriously, I'd just call FTD and be done with it.
PROS: Good place for plant-lovers
CONS: Awful idea for flower-people
I JUST got my new radio installed at the Auto Sound Barrier. I'm telling you, they did a WONDERFUL job with my installation. It took about a half an hour, maybe even a little LESS than that! Usually, installation of any radio takes 45 minutes, sometimes more.
I was really pressed for time, and, not wanting them to rush (and do a bad job), I didn't even say anything. I just bit my lip and waited as patiently as I could. Well, I didn't have to wait very long anyway, and they did everything right the first time! I thought sure, because I'm a naturally skeptical and untrusting person, that they would have crossed at least ONE wire or something, but no siree bob. They really know what they're doing in there. And trust me, the tip I gave them was well-deserved.
If anyone needs a radio installed, these are the people to go to. They beat almost everyone's price for installation, and they do an EXCELLENT job. Trust me.
PROS: Excellent service, skilled, experienced mechanics
CONS: Unhelpful receptionist
Since there are no roller rinks in Chicago, I would love to recommend The Roller Dome, located approximately 1 hour south of you north-side dwellers, and about a 1/2 hour south of the south-siders.
I have gone to the Roller Dome many, many, MANY times, and it has always been a great experience. They have always been reasonably-priced, offering great music in a great atmosphere, skate rental, an inside pro-shop (not so reasonably-priced), and a concession stand (good nachos). I think the sessions are 3-4 hours long, so you have plenty of time to skate. Oh, and they also have a mini-arcade area for those non-skating attenders.
They offer classes, free skate, adult skate, kiddy skate, etc., and you have the ability to reserve the whole place for birthday parties (which they cater to). If you really like to skate, you are up for the drive (also accessible by buses and trains), I totally recommend that you go to the Roller Dome. I'm sure you'll go again, and again, and again!
PROS: Good attendants, lots of fun
CONS: Slippery floor; expensive pro-shop
Okay, I'm not attempting to influence or recommend that ANYONE get a tattoo, but I'm assuming that if you're searching th parlor, you've already made up your mind. So, I would like to suggest that you visit Tatu Tattoo. I'm sure that all of the staff members/artists are as friendly and considerate as the one who worked on me. Guide rules say that I'm not allowed to name names, so I won't. But I recommend the girl.
I got my tattoo 3 months ago, and according to their website, she's still working there. She understood that this was my first (and, after the painful experience, my last) tattoo, and was as gentle as one could be with a needle. I got a very small, detailed (her specialty, might I add) image of a lilac, and she did an excellent job.
Their facility was very clean, organized, and above all, sterilized. My artist, as I said, was very personable and comfortable to be around, and it's reasonably priced, depending on what you would want done. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the entire experience a 12.
PROS: Clean; patient, detailed staff; fair prices
I would use Chicagoland Truck Rental anytime I need to move anything. They have great people working there, who are ready to help you with any inquiry that you may have. On top of that, they are much cheaper than U-haul and Budget in the long run. I rented a large truck, but I'm almost certain they have vans as well, for those smaller moves/deliveries. I was more than satisfied with the service that I recieved, the condition of the truck (they keep them in tip-top shape), and the fact that I actually recieved some of my money back at the end of the day!
I would definitely recommend Chicagoland to anyone who needed a truck. Go ahead, give them a call. I'm sure they are already ready to help!
PROS: Clean, mechanically-sound trucks; great people
CONS: Reserve trucks at least a week ahead of time
I used Fast Trakk General Labor to move my 2bdrm apartment on the northside (to a 3brdrm house) a couple of months ago. I found their ad listed in the yellow pages, and frankly, have always wanted to write a review on them. They are excellent movers.
They were careful, professional, personable, and above all (for most people), very reasonable for the type of service that they offer. They were also very time- and space-efficent while moving and packing my items. I found that to be a major plus. They definitely didn't waste my time or my money, which, needless to say, was appreciated!
I also remember the owner mentioning that their service specializes in the moving and transport of antiques, which was a real perk, considering the fact that I had a few pieces of age in my home. They wrap and strap everything very carefully, so that none of the pieces get damaged in transport. I was pretty thrilled.
Fast Trakk General Labor is truly an outstanding team, who is ready to accomodate you, and make your move as breezy an experience as they can for you. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone and everyone!
PROS: Efficent, Professional, Friendly, Cautious
CONS: Pricey for some people
