I like Blue Moon because you can find unique items ala the thrift store, but with a bit more consistancy and the security of knowing you are buying new clothes. The prices are still more reasonable than the mall. Their stock changes constantly so you know you'll always see something new.
I have lived in Ventura all my life, and driven by Yasmin's countless times. I finally got to try it the other night and it was well worth the effort. I got a Vegitarian sampler platter. It was nice because I know that I like certian Indian foods, but I did not know the names or what to order. The sampler came with an apetizer, yummy samosas, and the dinner had five or six little dishes and a bowl of rice. Most of the dishes looked like a dahl, and my favorite was the lentel dish. Really fun, especially for those who are unfamiliar with international cuisine.
I stayed in Hostel Obispo just to get away for the weekend, and to remind me of my backpacking days in Australia. It was just what I needed. All of the comforting similarities between all hostels were there...the bunk beds, the common room and kitchen, the free food bin, and one of the best book exchanges I've ever seen. The staff at Hostel Obispo also make home made sourdough pancakes every morning. The taste is so unique I can't decided if I love them or hate them...but either way Hostel Obispo is a quiet steal of a deal.
PROS: Clean, quiet, safe, free breakfast
Pete's is a popular downtown breakfast joint. Its been around forever and its just very much Ventura style. Be prepared to wait up to a half hour on the weekends, but you won't be lonely outside, and they provide benches and chairs and beautiful California weather. They used to make the best french toast with squaw bread...maybe if we all ask nicely they'll bring it back. Open for breakfast and lunch.
PROS: long waits on the weekends
CONS: good food, classic establishment
For the most part, this resturant in central Rohnert Park is pretty standard. With the exception of its Lemon Chicken Sandwich. This is, no exageration, the best Chicken sandwich I have ever had. I went to school in Rohnert Park a few years ago, and I still long for this sandwich. If given enough time I would make the 6 hour drive from where I live now, just for this sandwich. It consists of tender chicken in a tangy lemon sauce on toasted buttery sour dough bread. I'm drooling from 500 miles away.
The Palace is one of my favorite resturants in Santa Barbara. The food is oh oh so good, tip- order the bread pudding in advance, it takes 30 min. The crawfish appetizers are yummy, and I really don't like crawfish. The staff is fun and in the evenings be sure to stick around for the sing along. Its a great place to go with a lot of friends or for a special celebration. Oh and please try the margaritas.
PROS: Awesome food
CONS: Santa Barbara Prices
Chad's is my favorite resturant in Santa Barbara. And with the amount of really good resturants in the city, that is saying a lot. The staff at Chad's is fun and friendly, but you can also make it a romantic evening in one of their many small tucked away tables. Monday nights is coin flip night. After your meal you get to flip a coin with your waiter and if you win your dinners are free! (you still have to pay for drinks and dessert...but still, free dinners!)
PROS: Fun and GOOD food
CONS: not a cheap evening
I love Lu Ross because I can get my legs waxed for $15 dollars. This is a super deal. However, you have to be willing to be worked on by students. And since they are students sometimes the appointment takes a little longer. But for the most part all the students I've had work on me have been really nice and sometimes they do a better job than at a salon.
CONS: trusting beauty school students
After getting the run around from a kiosk T-mobile retailer in the mall, I was soooo relieved to find a proper T-mobile store, also conveniantly located in the mall. I was also so relieved to meet my sales associate Donovan. He was completely helpful, without being pushy or sleezy like many others in his profession. He made sure I was taken care of and even called me the next day to let me know he had finished processing my account.
This is my favorite farmers market. There is always a wide variety of fruits and vegtables to choose from, along with flowers, fresh juices, honey and baked goods. And the tamales are the best. Its on thursdays from 3-7 in the afternoon near the Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks.
