Gold Chef Svc Llc
Great deli! Great bagel shop! This is the place to go if you want a great sandwich on a bagel. Delicious selection of bagels. Prices are reasonable. Selection of sandwiches is typical for a bagel place. Coffee is always hot. Juices/milk/soda available. Very clean. Staff is always friendly and happy to see you. Get their early on the weekends for the best selection of bagels -- though there is always enough for everyone.
PROS: bagel selection, prices
CONS: sort of hidden if you aren't familiar with town
Greensboro Public Library
The staff in the children's room could only make me feel more at home if they let me walk around in my pj's and slippers! And knowing Ms Pam, if I asked nicely, she probably would let me! The Central Library has lots to offer all age groups; however I am most knowledgeable about their children's room. The librarians in the children's room are quite knowledgeable when it comes to the world of literature. They are willing and able to help you find that perfect book for your child. Even if it is an age-appropriate factual book about the Titanic for a 3 year old!
Their story times are wonderful -- they truly love books and love children. You can't help but know those 2 things after a visit there. They allow children to be children (in other words: your child does not have to perfectly quiet to visit this children's room) as long as you are with them.
Three times a year the children's room offers FAMILY PLACE. This is a workshop for parents/caregivers of 12-41 month olds. Play with your child while Ms Pam brings in local resources to answer questions on child development and other child topics. Ms Jamie (from ArtQuest) is at each session with a fun art/craft project for the children to do. The cost is free -- you just have to register.
The selection of children's books as well as new fiction is wonderful. (Those are the 2 sections my 4 yr old and I frequent.) The entire staff is friendly and helpful.
PROS: friendly, knowledgeable, caring staff
CONS:
JOANN Fabrics & Crafts
I shop this store frequently. They are always well-stocked with the basics for sewing. Fabric selection is plentiful and prices are competitive; however they often have great sales. I am usually pleased with their holiday fabric and craft selections. Holiday items usually significantly clearance the week before the holiday occurs. Lines can be long (both check out lines and fabric cutting lines) during the holiday seasons. One BIG disappointment in the store is the staff: they aren't as knowledgeable as I wish they could be on the subject of sewing. The staff is friendly and helpful to the extent of their limited knowledge. It is also sad that they offer little to no classes. For being one of 2 fabric stores in Greensboro, I'd think they'd offer sewing classes for all levels. Parking is never a problem. No complaints regarding prices.
PROS: prices, prices, prices; selection
CONS: lack of classes and knowledgeable staff
Randy's Quilt Shop
I have been nothing but pleased with Randy's Quilt Shop. The owner has employed the nicest and very knowledgeable people. The store offers competitive prices on many different type sewing machines (basic, sergers, embroidering). Also, sewing maintenance/tune-ups are available. I feel that the store caters more to quilters than to other crafters. However, they have expanded their store (not only more space but more selection) to include hand-dyed yarns and a crochet/knitting corner. Their yarn selection is to dye for (get it....dye for! LOL!). Beautiful, gorgous yarns! I find the fabric to be on the expensive side -- but I am not a quilter, so I tend to want to buy in larger quantities than your average quilter does. I will say they do have the most beautiful fabric in town. They often have sales so don't let the fabric prices keep you away. Parking is plentiful. Hours are convenient.
PROS: knowledgeable staff, beautiful selection of yarns/fabric
CONS: fabric prices
Mountain Rentals Of Gatlinburg
This house/vacation rental company gets 2 thumbs up from both me and my best friend. We rented a cabin through them for a weekend. Reasonable prices. Wonderful employees -- helpful; full of suggestions of what to see/do while in the area; polite; friendly. Their main office wasn't the easiest to find that was due to winding roads, not due to anything on their part. Employees gave excellent directions to our rental. And our rental was absolutely divine!! Babbling brook ran through the backyard of our 2 floor log cabin rental. Definitely a getaway paradise! Great moms-only weekend!
PROS: prices, friendliness
CONS: finding the main office
Book Warehouse
Everytime I visit Pigeon Forge, I insist on stopping at the Book Warehouse. I love browsing their massive selection of books. Every genre you can think of. Great selection of Christian books. They even have a wonderful corner section of children's books. And they have teacher resource books. Prices are great -- much much lower than your typical mall bookstore. They also have a clearance floor - yes, I said, "floor". The whole bottom floor is all clearance prices.
Parking is plentiful. Hours are very convenient -- often open til 10 or 11pm.
PROS: hours, prices
CONS:
Scrapbook Superstore
What a super store! Amazing selection of scrapbooking supplies -- stickers, paper, embellishments, page toppers, kits, you name it! Wonderfully and neatly organized -- very easy to find what you are looking for! Very helpful staff -- willing to point me in the right direction as well as suggest ways to finish my current layout. Plenty of parking. Competitive prices. They have a kids' corner -- place for your children to play while you shop. AND they have a man's lounge -- place for dear hubby to sit and relax while you shop. What more could you want?? Next door is an 'outlet' of scrapbooking supplies (owned by the same management).
PROS: selection, selection, selection; area for husbands/kids to play
CONS:
Claim Jumper Restaurant
Oh my goodness! I love love love this restaurant! The food is always delicious! The portion sizes are huge. And best of all the desserts are to die for! Staff is always pleasant and friendly! Service was good. I eat here every time I visit the Las Vegas area! In fact, a visit to ClaimJumpers is one of the top things on my TO DO list in Vegas.
PROS: yummy food/desserts
CONS: portions are a bit too big for me
Scrappy-Do
What a wonderful scrapbook store! I don't live in NV, but whenever I visit my mom (who does live in NV) I make sure to visit ScrappyDoo to see what new products/papers are available. Quite up to date on scrapbooking trends/supplies. Staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The classes they offer are interesting and affordable. I have never had an unpleasant experience at this store and would recommend it to anyone who loves to scrapbook.
PROS: selection; prices; classes
CONS:
Michaels
My experience with this Michael's has never been wonderful. Employees always appear to be inconvenienced when you need assistance in finding an item. They have little knowledge about their stock as well as little knowledge about how to use many of their products. All in all, I'd rather drive the extra 20 minutes to the other Michael's store in my town.
PROS: close to my house
CONS: unhelpful employees
