All Creatures - a local animal hospital in Long Beach, USED to be the best place to take your pets. But that was before they rebuilt the place and got arrogant.
I brought my childhood dog there for years, but realized, as an adult, that the employees and the doctors, are more interested in making money than they are in caring for animals.
I wouldn't bring my pets there if they were the only vets on Long Island.
They're extremely over-priced. They treat their patients (and their owners) with little to no respect, and the doctors do not seem as though they entered the profession because they loved animals. It's more like they entered the profession because they love money.
I have experienced and heard horror stories about this place.
I drive 25 minutes north to see a vet; All Creatures is literally up the block from my home.
Find other recommendations; ask your neighbors; the only reason people continue to use All Creatures is because it's right here in the West End.
PROS: They really aren't any
CONS: Its mere existence
Hilton Animal Hospital is the best place on Long Island to bring your pets for routine or even emergency visits.
All of the vets at Hilton treat people and animals with utmost respect and care. I live 150 feet from a local animal hospital, but drive 20 minutes to see the vets at Hilton.
Their prices are reasonable, their staff is friendly, and someone is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The vets at this hospital are the best on this planet!
PROS: The best animal care on Long Island
CONS: Dr. C
This Petco location is decent, but not the best. They have few "newer" items and do not honor the usual Petco return policies. They store is adequately stocked. I would recommend going there for a quick purchase of canned or dry dog/cat food, but that's about it.
PROS: Good location; lots of parking
CONS: Poorly stocked
The Rose Connection in Flushing is the best place to buy roses (and all flowers) HANDS DOWN to any other florist in the tri-state area.
You can get a beautiful dozen roses for $6.99! This place is reasonably priced and offers a variety of flowers, plants, and at Christmas time, trees.
You can't go wrong with The Rose Connection!
PROS: Really inexpensive, beautiful flowers and arrangements
CONS: Prices go up around holidays (airlines raise their prices for delivery)
Anyone I have ever known who has shopped at this cellphone store has been ripped off -- including my 16 year old nephew!
The products are over-priced, the help is downright nasty and rude, and don't expect them to tell you the truth about anything!
They do not stand behind their products and the manager is "always on his way."
DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE!
PROS: Located in Long Beach
CONS: The entire establishment
If you're the type of person who doesn't like to get out of your car (or your pajamas) then Dairy Barn is for you!
The store is known for its unique drive-thru motif and every lazy person under the sun should have one of these stores in their home town.
Whether you're shopping for milk, juice, eggs, bread, cookies, soda, cake, beer, ice cream, coffee, cigarettes, or paper towels, Dairy Barn is your ultimate shopping drive thru experience!
They offer weekly speicals on such things as Poland Spring water, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and much more!
Their prices are reasonable and they accept bottle/can returns.
PROS: You don't have to get out of your car to shop
CONS: Most nights they close at 11:00 p.m. & no credit cards accepted
Not only does this Kohls location offer few cashiers, the ones they do have work at a turtle's pace. If you're looking for a bargain, it's not worth shopping at this location. The salespeople are unfriendly and cold. The store is a nightmare year-round, but even worse during the Christmas holidays.
Oftentimes, the store is messy and people are busy folding clothes and putting them away and unconcerned with helping customers.
It's worth spending the extra money than shopping at this Kohls location.
PROS: Big parking lot
CONS: Cheaply made products at high prices
Pet Supply Plus in Oceanside , while large and dog friendly, rarely has the specialty items listed in their sale circular. However, their prices are comparable to Petco and Petland, and this particular location also offers grooming.
They usually have a rescue group on their premises on the weekend such as The Long Beach Humane Society which offers kittens and cats for adoption; and a Greyhound rescue (with lovely rescued Greyhounds to meet and to pet).
They offer low-cost vaccination clinics on a regular basis which is a huge plus for budget-conscious pet owners.
Their fish department, while quite extensive, seems to have unhealthy fish who don't last very long after their arrival into your tank.
PROS: Unique Daba Doo pet products including leashes, collars, beds, and more!
CONS: Un-friendly, sometimes cranky workers
