Phone Doctor
A part had fallen off my cell phone. The phone still worked, but was missing the cover over the antannea. I took the phone to the Cingular store where I bought it. They said they don't do repairs anymore and they couldn't help me at all, but suggested I try Wireless Toyz. So I went to Wireless Toyz. The Phone Doctor is inside Wireless Toyz and they do the repair work. They quickly saw what the problem was and within 10 minutes, I was on my way. They were very courtious and efficient. I was very pleased with their work.
Green Valley Hand Car Wash
I chose this car wash because of the good prices and location. They have various packages and I chose the Silver Wash for $15.95 over the $12.95 Full-Service Wash. The Silver included the Full-Service Wash plus 'under flush the car' and 'foaming rainbow spray,' whatever that is. While the car was being detailed, I pointed out some tar on one of the fenders. I was told they didn't have anything to get that off with. They didn't wash the wheel wells at all. When I asked the detailer, he said they were supposed to do that at the start. He then used a brush that was sitting in a bucket of dirty water to 'clean' my wheel wells. Also, even though they do hand wash the cars, they still put the cars through a tunnel, which I didn't realize until it was too late. Fortunately, their track is wider than most car washes and my wider-than-normal tires fit with no problem.
I was approached by a person telling me I had rock chips in my windshield that needed to be repaired, when I definitely do not. One of the car wash employees said it was an insurance scam. This is ok if you do have a chip that needs repaired, but don't take their word for it. Look at your windshield yourself.
PROS: Low prices
CONS: Incomplete wash job, windshield repair scam operating at this location.
Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort
This is a great place for a day trip to the mountains to get some skiing or boarding in. They make their own snow for those seasons when they don't get enough of the real thing. I went up on a Thursday in Feb. 2006 and there was only one big run, The Strip, with part of The Line open, both intermediate runs. And the bunny slope, Rabbit Peak, was open. There were no bare patches on these runs and the show was well groomed. There were no lift lines at all and lots more boarders than skiiers. Classes were in session. It was sunny and the temp was perfect. But as soon as the sun goes down, go home! It gets cold. If you don't want to pay the full price for one run, get there after 1 p.m. and pay less for the half-day lift pass. A fabulous place to learn or practice or for a day trip just to get some good runs in.
PROS: Snow machine, no lines during the week, classes
CONS: All runs not open if no natural snow and no discount
Leslie's Swimming Pool Supply
They have a very clean store and seemingly helpful staff, but watch out. We had to replace the turbine on our pool vac recently. Last week, the vac was going around in circles and I took it apart and found a wheel on one A-frame was broken. You can't just buy the wheel or even just the A-frame. You have to buy a whole kit with all that plus the turbine ($75.00). They do free labor and I couldn't get the pods off, so I let them do it. I dropped it off on Sunday (they were very busy). I told them to only replace the A-frames, not the turbine, but they did both and didn't keep the "old" parts. Then I was told that if you replace any one of those parts, they all need to be replaced or the rest will go bad in a couple of months. But then, why does the pool vac company sell some of those parts separately if you shouldn't replace just one?
PROS: Clean store
CONS: Sales/repair people don't always know the best answer.
Dishes Buffet
This is the buffet at Treasure Island. It is quite good. It has a seafood section, a pizza oven, pasta station, salad station, BBQ, Asian food, including sushi. The crab was a bit salty, but other than that, the food was all good, and a good variety. They had my favorites-mac & cheese, crab, garlic bread, and little lobsters. But, oh, the desserts were wonderful! They have a donut maker that makes little donuts. Chocolate soufflet, little pecan pies (a little bigger than tarts), chocolate cover banana bites on a stick, and much more.
PROS: Good food, good variety, great desserts
CONS: A little pricey, but worth it.
Las Vegas Athletic Clubs
I joined this club for extra incentive to work out, even though I have a gym in my own home. I haven't regretted it for a second. It's a new building and is very clean and state of the art. They periodically get new equipment in and have quite a variety of workout machines as well as free weights. They have a separate workout room for ladies. They have a good variety of classes for beginners to advanced. They're open 24 hours and their prices are reasonable compared to other clubs in the area.
McR Corvettes
The owner and operator of this business, Willy, really knows what he's doing. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to Corvette repair. His shop rate is very reasonable, too. I highly recommend this shop for routine maintainence or repair of your Corvette.
Home Depot
This store has a good location. They have an OK selection of items to buy, but it's hard to find anyone to help you find anything. If you know your way around the store and know exactly what you want, you're OK. If you need help figuring anything out, though, forget it!
Money Tree
The employees here are always very polite and helpful. They always smile and are very friendly. The store is always clean and new looking. I only had trouble once when I wanted to fax something and the fax was broken.
Food 4 Less
This grocery store has a good location, but the parking lot is always dirty with garbage and dried, spilled liquid of some sort all over. The last time I went there, when I walked in the door, I noticed a bad smell. I saw a chicken bone on the floor in Aisle 4. I ended up buying much less than I was planning. When walking back to my car in the parking lot, I saw another chicken bone. I vowed to never shop there again.
