Slate Branch Golf Course was a Somerset icon for many years but the owners were ready to move on to other things and it transferred hands in 2004. It is now Waitsboro Golf Course (or something similar). Im not sure what sort of changes were made but I know when it was Slate Branch Gold Course, it was a world-class course and run by some world-class people!
PROS: Great course and people
CONS: Changed name and owners
Wayne County Hospital has been totally renovated and has been improved considerably! Fortunately I haven't had to visit it very often but once on a trip down there, my son had something terrible happen to his eye and we couldn't figure it out. It had swollen up quite a bit and was red and inflammed. We took him to the ER (he was only six years old). They were quick to see him but couldln't really figure out what was wrong. They concluded he had hit himself with a porch swing he was playing on and wanted to "observe" him. But we have a friend that is an optometrist back home so we asked to be discharged to go. They really didn't know what else to do and we didn't want to just sit there and do nothing in case there was something wrong with him. Once we got back home, we did found out that he had rubbed pollen in that eye and is terribly allergic.
PROS: New facility
CONS: Same ER woes as anywhere else
Since Monticello doesn't have a lot of options as far as hotels go, I would say Tiffany Inn is just okay. It used to be a highlight of the stay when it was newly built but it's changed owners and is no longer taken care of the way it should. There is a restaurant on property, too, but it has also gone downhill since new management. The rooms are your very basic hotel room. Pool is open during summer months but nothing fancy. If you are travelling here for the lake and don't plan to spend much time in your room, then you will be okay. If you want anything more, go to the Holiday Inn Express a few doors down.
CONS: Getting old and run down
My family always travels to Kings Island for some fun and thrills! There is something for all ages so it is ideal for families. There is the Nickolodeon area for the younger ones and there is plenty to keep them busy! For all other ages, there are various rides for all levels of thrill seekers. Personally, I am a ride weenie ;-) but now that my kids are getting older, they are trying all the big rides so I'm left alone waiting for them. However, this is not that bad because there are plenty of shops to browse and shows to see. If you've never been there before, you should try it and I"m positive it will be a family favorite for years to come.
PROS: Suitable for all ages
CONS: crowded on weekends
We love the Newport Aquarium and enjoy it often. The location is even better with all the new restaurants on the Levy that are available. Parking can somewhat complicated at times but I think they've improved it considerably since it first opened. My kids just LOVE the shark tank! They actually swim overhead!
PROS: Shark tank; restaurants close-by
We try to visit the Cincy zoo as often as possible even though we are 3 hours away! It has such a nice, family atmosphere that we can really enjoy it without worrying about crowds. It is very cost efficient for you to enjoy with your family. The animals all seem to be taken well care of too.
PROS: Nice atmosphere
Oceanfront is a true professional tanning center! Beds are always clean, bulbs are always hot and there are plenty of beds available so you don't have to wait or come at inconvenient times. People that work there are friendly enough, too. They also have great tanning specials for Eastern students! Can't beat that!
PROS: Hot bulbs
CONS: student workers
Kellys Fruit Market is second-to-none! I love visiting this place when fresh fruits and vegetables are in season! They have fresh stuff that is locally-grown -- and you just can't beat that! Flowers are picked daily and are fresh for a nice arrangement at home or as a gift, too.
PROS: Fresh produce
Whether you are looking for a traditional look or one to really turn head, Snooty Fox delivers! They are very professional and willing to work with each client on a style that is unique just for them.
PROS: Professional and unique
This is a turn of the century location specializing the unique Berea charm and flavor. Anyone visiting Berea should make the effort to stop in at Boone Tavern for a meal - or even for a night's stay.
PROS: Beautiful and charming
