Ernesto's Mexican Food
Ernestos has great staff and service. I am always stuffed after eating there. The food is so good. Beware, if you go at peak times, there is a line and you have to wait -- outside. If the weather is hot - you'll be hot while you wait for your seating.
There is outside seating too, which is nice.
It's pricey.
Parking is on the street.
PROS: Good food
CONS: Pricey and busy
Ca State Railroad Museum Store
I went here with my nephew and he loved it. Air conditioned and so much to learn about our railroads.
Family memberships are only $15.00 a year.
They had special event through out the year and it's great for kids anytime. Kids love trains. So many different type of trains to see. There is even a train ride. Doesn't really go anywhere but it's a treat for the kids.
PROS: Family membership $15.00
CONS: Parking is not cheap
Sutter's Fort State Historic
The Saturday night before Thanksgiving Sutter's Fort puts on a show where all the visitors go back into time, before the Gold Rush. You see real people from history. Blacksmith, trappers or a doctor talk of rumors of gold in them thar hills.
You experience exactly what it was like to be there living in Sutter's Fort.
After that you are treated to hot cider and desert.
PROS: Very well performed
CONS: Cold weather, bundle up
Beers Books
A friend turned me on to Beers back in the 80's when I was into buying my classic books used. Their trade system is really a great way to read a lot of good books at no cost.
I have gotten some great deals on used reference books.
The place is organzied too which helps the staff help you find your book.
One more thing, they have new books too.
PROS: You don't leave empty handed
CONS: Not enough time to read all those books.
Beat
I wandered into the store to just kill some time. I wasn't impressed with merchandise.
It does feel relaxed and comfortable that's probably why I wandered in -- it appeals. Open space lots of windows.
Once I was in I just wanted to check out the CDs. Yet, The Beat is more of a specialty music store with the old records and such.
PROS: Open space lots of windows
CONS: Parking is slim
Thrift Store
This place is busy. I know the merchandise goes in and out and new stuff is alway replacing sold stuff. I usually find what I need for a particular project.
There are lots of families here which means there are some smart shoppers.
I don't usually shop at thrift stores but this one is the exception to the rule. It's a fun place with good deals on clothes.
All of it is easy to find.
Parking is a bit tough.
PROS: Nice supplies
CONS: Parking is poor
Thrift Town
I was not impressed with this store's lay out but I did find what I was looking for and need to carry off a project. The attendant was helpful in telling me where to go to find my item.
The price was cheap. I didn't like the selection of shoes; they looked poorly kept and unkept.
PROS: I found what I needed
CONS: Not impressed bu the lay out.
Curtis Park Market
This market has a personality that I enjoy when I walk into the store. I use to live in this neighborhood and go to the store regularly but now only once in a very blue moon.
I visited the store a few months ago and it had it's same old traits. Looks dirty but it's not. Musty smelling yet clean -- just plain old.
The stuff you need is easy to find but they don't carry everything like a chain store, just the items that really matter.
Holiday Inn Express Woodland, an IHG Hotel
I went to the Holiday Express for a quick meeting. The service person saw me walk in and helped me right away. She directed me to my meeting place.
They as some fresh chocolate chip cookies at the reception desk. The looked delicious but I kept back and just looked.
The breakfast and snack area look very clean and pleasant to sit a spell.
PROS: Wonderful caring staff
CONS: Dumpster is an eyesore
Maidu Community Center
I attended a funeral here last night for a close and wonderful friend. The Maidu Community Center is perfect for this. A nice and peaceful porch with plants and flowers and a gazebo for the minister to speak.
The reception area was open with lots of windows. The people running the place were very, very supportive and nice.
All in all great. Wonderful parking with plenty of shade.
PROS: Peaceful and Serene
CONS: The porch area could have been larger
