If you need to host a Kosher Party, this is the place to call! They have everything from pickles and corned beef to bagels and matzah ball soup. They are generally incredibly busy (esp during the lunch hour) but the service is generally great. You can always call your order in for pickup. The store itself smells a little strange but otherwise the store is well equipped with many different delicious wares. They have a wide range of dried fruits, cream cheeses, typical Jewish delights and a whole host of other baked and deli goods. Definitely worth checking out!
PROS: Great Selection - One stop shop for all kosher food needs
CONS: Can get extremely busy.
If you are a more experienced traveller, I definitely suggest using this agency. They have great affiliations with many of the Luxury and Virtuoso Hotel groups. The staff is friendly and highly efficient. I have always had reliable service with this agency. No matter what questions you have, someone at Lake Shore will always find you the answers you need. The agents are busy as ever but always find time to attend to your needs. They help smooth over the most troublesome of trips and always are ready with helpful travel tips and suggestions.
PROS: Extremely experienced staff with a wealth of information
CONS: Sometimes difficult to get someone on the phone but email is great!
I have attended various programs at the Noyes Cultural Center over the years. I must say that this center is alive with Art and wonder. They offer some of the most cutting edge classes around. They house the famous Piven Theater Workshop that is a must for aspiring actors. A dear friend has her daughter enrolled here and she loves it! I often go to watch her performances and it is truly amazing. Aside from just Piven, the Art center has hosted some truly provocative and interesting artists over the years. Their classes range from painting to writing. The center is also close to the Noyes EL stop so getting here is no problem. There is also a fantastic playground and basketball court onsite as well especially for parents waiting with sibs to pick their child up. The classes vary in terms of price but overall this is a great art experience. Summer camps here also tend to be fantastic. I definitely recommend checking out their schedule as they are constantly changing their programs !
PROS: Great facilities, right at El stop. Wide range of classes
CONS: None so far.
The best thing about Comix Revolution is the range of comics and books they have available. You will find wares to delight both the comic book amateur as well as the novice. They also have a wide range of books varying in theme and price. This is a source for great gift books and toys. Their eccentric collection of Ugly Dolls is fantastic. The store itself is excellent to browse through. The prices range from mediocre to outrageous but I guarentee that you will always find something worthwhile here. Parking can be limited at times and you will find yourself lost in here for quite a while so plan ahead. The staff are pretty knowledgable and generally leave you alone instead of pestering you about what you should and should not buy. Great place to check out!
PROS: Great Selection - Books and stuff for all ages
CONS: Parking in the area can be a bother.
I have nothing but great things to say about the staff and business at this video store. I have always been wonderfully served here. There is a fantastic range of videos and dvds available and the staff on hand are always willing to help. I often take a 12 and 14 year old in there and when we are often bickering about what to rent, the staff has been great about offering suggestions. The prices are right and the selection is great. Please note that they are less likely to give you a break on late fees though - which is understandable given the tough industry. This store is totally unlike the Blockbusters of the world as the staff really cares for and loves movies. Definitely would recommend going here!
PROS: Excellent staff! Very friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection.
CONS: Not many at all!
Microcenter is the nirvana of all computer stores. You will find a whole array of computers, peripheries, games, books, and who knows what else. They have a great service desk and are proficient in both Mac and PC. The prices are also very reasonable and their return policy is competitive. The service within the store itself is mediocre. One needs to be willing to wait for 15 to 20 minutes before getting the help you need. I also had the experience of being wrongly advised. Luckily their awesome return policy was a plus here. Overall this is a great business with fantastic products. If you dont mind a longer wait for a cheaper price, this is the place to go to. Another quick note, try as far as possible not to call the store with questions. You get transferred around more times than you know. I have also even been hung up on. Try going there in person to keep the frustration levels down!
PROS: Good prices, Wide range of products, Excellent return policy
CONS: Long wait times, Poor phone service/support.
At this store you can check out all the latest games, trade in all your old ones, and browse at leisure. I go here every Saturday with my 12 year old who lives for Halo and other games. Its a great place for kids. The staff are really in touch with their games and know everything about their products. You can also pre order games and systems here but beware that they do not hold games for long even if you pay for them. There is a parking garage and the movie theatre nearby but otherwise, parking isnt easy. Makes a great place to kill time before a movie. You also can get preplayed and other fantastic deals on games of all ratings. Definitely worth checking out!
PROS: Wide wide selection of games and prices
CONS: Pre ordering can be tricky!
Zanies is a great place to spend a Saturday night. Located in the hippest part of Old Town, Zanies is a fun filled club that hosts some know and unknown comedians. The room itself can get crowded on a busy night but the shows are generally worth it. There is a drink minimum in addition to the tickets. Overall though, you will have a good time. I would try to book ahead and arrive ahead of time as parking can be a drag. Most importantly, bear in mind that the parking meters require money until midnight with a 2 hour minimum. There is a parking garage on North Avenue just west of Wells. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby that you can stop at before the show. Definitely worth checking out!
PROS: Hosts both Known/Unknown comedians at reasonable prices
CONS: Meter parking is definitely an issue
This facility is staffed by polite, experienced and caring individuals. It is a great location - right near the Loyola University Chicago. The services here are inexpensive and worthwhile. You can also find a good place for advice and information. The entrance to the building is not apparent at first but is marked clearly. The parking here is limited and you really need to watch out for people who drive like crazy on Broadway. A good service that definitely needs support. I highly recommend this clinic for all your health needs.
PROS: Friendly staff, short wait times
CONS: Busy neighborhood with not much parking
Aylas Originals allows you to run wild making your own types of jewellry. The staff here are extremely wonderful and dont mind people browsing even though most items are tiny beads and such. There is an amazing collection of beads from all over and an even more amazing collection of staff to advise you on how to string the perfect necklace or bracelet. The beads can get pricey so be sure to budget wisely. Otherwise, this place is definitely worth checking out. They have the DIY kinda kits or you could buy something custom made. I have received many beautiful personalized gifts from this store and love every one of them.
PROS: Excellent beads, knowledge, staff
CONS: Hard to stick to your budget!
