This is the place when you want Italian sausages. I have to say their parsely and cheese sausage grilled is the best. And their hot italian sausages grilled on a piece of Italian bread with onions is to die for.
There is more here than just meats, with cheeses, breads, spices and more available to complete a real Italian meal.
This is a must visit for goodies to bring home.
PROS: real Italian Sausages
I recently was in New York and needed to make a banking transaction.
The folks here did not know me, but were courteous and helpful and enabled me to get cash when I needed it the most. While they were under no obligation to help, they were very professional and helped me with the paperwork to get things taken care of.
Lovely bank, nice and friendly people with an eye to assist even those folks who are not their regular customers.
PROS: professional, courteous and cheerful
CONS: none really
Stained glass is the speciality here. From custom glass working for businesses, to that special gift for a special person, these people create a stained glass art piece to your specifications.
They also do repairs and there are ready made pieces for sale. At one time you could also purchases supplies here, but I've not bought any recently.
This is the home of the custom stained glass art piece, and these folks know their glass.
PROS: custom made expertly fashioned stained glass works
La Boheme has been around in the same location since I was in High School. The management has always been friendly and helpful.
The clothing offered here is classic line evening wear, party dresses and dressy casual wear. Pants suits with jackets, classic blouses and more.
My experience has been that the more mature woman will find the perfect evening dress here. This is more pricy than the retail stores, but you will not find the designer labels that you will find here.
PROS: classic styling in professional or elegant wear
CONS: parking anywhere in Brooklyn is a con
Classic napoleons, gooey clairs and butter cookies dipped in chocolate are just some of the elegant deserts you can find here. French tarts, black forest cakes and strawberry shortcakes are on display for you to pick and choose. Tea biscuits are fresh daily. Seasonally you can also find the best hot cross buns in Bay Ridge. But my personal favorite is the angel wings, puffed pastry with a sugar apricot coating. Breakfast in Brooklyn isnt complete unless you stop in here for a box of their goodies
PROS: world class french pastries
CONS: parking anywhere in Brooklyn is a con
A step back in time, Hinches is an old fashioned soda fountain with counter service. However, their big draw is their home made chocolates and boxed candies.
There are glass counters with chocolate delights to browse through. And the staff is always friendly and helpful.
This is one of the heaviest traffic areas, so make sure you take public transport to get here. The bus stops across the street. Parking is available in the garage, but it's pricy.
PROS: great home made chocolates
Cangianos is mostly known as a meat market where you can buy choice cuts of meat for those special Italian dishes. But they also carry cheeses, pizza dough, sauce and Italian specialities like sausages, salami's and more.
Be aware that parking in this busy part of Bay Ridge will be difficult, but it's worth the trip.
PROS: Best selections of meats and specialities
Hot bread, fancy cookies and more grace the cases inside Savarese. Napolians oozing cream and eclairs. But the best is their canolies. They make two kinds, regular and chocolate.
For something sweet to bring to a friend or relatives, you have to go to Savareses. Parking always seems to be available on the street.
PROS: Best Italian pastries and bread
Leskes has been a staple in the Bay Ridge Community for more years than I care to remember. Sunday mornings, it was Church and then stop for cake and bread at Leskes.
Not to miss products: during the holidays its Christmas Limpa bread and Yuleakager. Year round you can get the best apple strudle, cheese danish, black and white cookies and a personal favorite - custard kringla.
Don't miss the bakery when you are in Brooklyn, a piece of Brooklyn's cultural history.
PROS: Norwegian cakes and breads
Sayers is a full service decorating store. Located in the strip mall off Lexington and Cook, it is a large store, well lit and there is parking out front.
Sayers has a fine selection of different brands of paint, wallpaper, wax and furniture refinishing supplies. I buy my furniture wax here as well as some furniture refinishing products.
The staff is always helpful and very knowledgeable about the products they sell. They have suggested products for projects Ive worked on and also ordered products I specifically wanted that they did not have in stock.
A nice paint and paper center well worth stopping in to visit.
PROS: Large selection and reasonable prices
