Ann Taylor is a great store for women who prefer classic looks as opposed to trendy, short-lived styles. It has a great selection of professional, business casual and daily wear. In addition to clothing, they offer accessories including jewelry, shoes, stockings and more. If you're looking for wardrobe basics - start here.
PROS: Classic styles, reasonably priced, good selection
MishMash (a Too Inc. company) was a teen specialty store. They were located in the Polaris Fashion Place but they went out of business several months ago. It's my understanding that they have replaced it with Justice, a "tween" store with value-priced sportswear and accessories designed for girls ages 7 to 14.
PROS: No longer in business
CONS: No longer in business
I'm not a big Oilily fan, but there are MANY parents who love the store's childrens clothes. Most of the clothes are very bright and bold. I've also seen a lot of patchwork and 'busy' prints. This store is located on the second floor of the Polaris Fashion Place. The store is known for high quality children's clothes (matching Mom's wear is available with some styles) so expect to pay for it!
PROS: Depends on your preference - but bright, bold styles
CONS: Expect to pay $$$$
Gymboree is a well-known brand of kids clothes. This one is located in the Polaris Fashion Place so it's very accessible and convenient. You can find a diverse selection of boy and girl clothes and accessories. They also have girl's "dress-up" items that are usually very charming. Wait for the mark-downs (which are frequent) to make items MUCH more affordable. Also be sure to check out the Gymbucks program.
PROS: Great selection of high quality children's clothes
CONS: Before mark-downs, very pricey
The Childrens Place is on the lower level of the Polaris Fashion Place. Interestingly, it's right beside Gymboree. it typically has a very reasonable selection and they have some great seasonal sales. I've often thought that the store inventory wasn't as trendy as others but it is high quality clothing from a well-known brand.
PROS: high quality clothes from a well-known brand
CONS: new inventory at times seems to miss the mark of current trends
Strasburg Children is located in the Polaris Fashion Place. It has beautiful children's wear that is best suited for special occasions - you won't find any everyday play clothes here!
You WILL find charming christening gowns, wedding apparel, Easter wear and other apparel for special occasions/events. It is an expensive store but if you sign up for their mailing list, you will receive discount mailers.
PROS: beautiful children's outfits for special events
CONS: pricey but it makes sense if you are looking for keepsakes
I've been to this store a number of times and I can't figure out what type of store it is - I've never seen a Carter's retail store before. Most outlet stores aren't located in the burbs but I always thought that retailers wouldn't go for manufacturers moving into their market.
You can go to one of the department stores in the Polaris Fashion Place and pay $24 for a Carter's infant outfit OR you can drive across the street to the Carter's store and pay $5 for the same outfit. No brainer, right?
Well, I'm glad it's here none the less - you can get good quality children's wear for low prices (often for $5 or $7) and they have legos, puzzles and other activities for the kids so you can shop in relative peace.
PROS: Convenient, nice clothes at low prices, beats department store shopping
Besides Bed, Bath and Beyond offering just about anything for your home, they also carry many higher-end brands like Nautica and Liz Claiborne home products. They also offer many coordinating pieces - but you'll spend a bundle as you buy them all to create a new look in your home. You can, however, find some good deals on these brands if you look hard enough - they are usually tucked away all through the store so keep your eye out.
PROS: Everything for your home, popular brands, often good deals
CONS: everyday pricing can be high, store can feel cluttered
I currently have two students enrolled (one is "graduating" to middle school this year) so we've had several years of experience at Oak Creek Elementary. They offer many innovative programs to keep the kids engaged in curriculum. There is quite a bit of classroom sharing or "split classrooms" meaning that teachers alternate teaching certain subjects so they can become more proficient and specialized in a select group of topics.
There are a number of teachers who really go "above and beyond." The music teacher, for instance, provides additional lessons for students with instruments (e.g. strings) before school at no charge. She has really instilled a sincere appreciation of music in my son.
When the school originally opened several years ago, many of the teachers had little or no classroom experience which caused concern. They are certainly more seasoned now and all are motivated to improve the classroom experience for students so I'm quite satisfied with the quality of the education my children are receiving. Staff is easily accessible and receptive to working with parents to encourage each child's learning experience.
Conversely, I miss having "real" grades instead of checks, pluses, etc. It's difficult to evaluate just where your child stands in each subject. Although there is some "teaching for the test," most of the curriculum is comprehensive and practical - providing a strong foundation for long-term learning.
PROS: Innovative curriculum, teachers go "above and beyond"
CONS: report cards with checks, pluses and slashes - hard to evaluate
Famous Footware usually has a wide range of items for men, women and children. They carry popular brands that are reasonably priced. They run frequent promotions - our favorite is the "buy one, get one 1/2 price." They also have a rewards program that allows you to earn products pretty quickly (obviously dependent on frequency of purchase). The store is clean, employees are helpful and the children's section has a television with seating area for entertainment (although I've never seen it on).
PROS: Frequent promotions, popular brands, reasonably priced
CONS: On occasion, I couldn't get needed sizes
