Wyandot Lake is located beside the Columbus Zoo (they share parking space). Although it's primarily a water park , you will get most of the amusement park "feel" since they also have non-water rides (e.g. roller coaster, ferris wheel, carousel and children's rides), amusement snacks like cotton candy, ice cream and more.
There are a variety of water areas for splashing, swimming, squirting, and sliding. For parents' convenience, there are areas that are exciting for both smaller and older children. Sunbathing areas with lots of deck chairs available on a first-come, first-serve. Kids of all ages enjoy the wave pool and there are a number of water slides for the more daring family members. It's a great place to keep your kids from getting "bored" this summer!
PROS: Convenient location, not too expensive, lots of activities
CONS: You have to lug all of your diaper bags and duffels around the park
This has got to be one of my favorites! If you want to enjoy a leisurely meal (typically very rich), you'll probably enjoy Mitchells. Specializing in steak and seafood, there is a plentiful selection of sides, entrees, desserts and drinks - something for most any taste. It's a warm atmosphere will dimmed lighting, large booths or tables, maybe some Sinatra in the background.
Food is prepared to spec - I have yet to have anything that was over/under cooked. Large portions. Exceptional service.
It can be difficult to get a table on the spot, so reservations are recommended.
PROS: Great food and atmosphere. Fabulous service.
CONS: My husband was bummed when the took bread pudding off the menu
My little girl has taken classes at Buckeye Gymnastics multiple times and she loves it! Not only is it good socialization for kids who stay home with Mom all day, but they learn to take turns, follow directions and use their bodies in ways they probably haven't before. The trampoline is typically the favorite (there are two) but there are so many other pieces of equipment and activities that kids stay engaged and excited to try new things! The staff (all gymnasts) are wonderful with the kids (some are certainly better than others but all good). They do fun warm-ups with singing and props - lots of fun rolled into about a 45 min class.
PROS: Lots of fun, large class schedule so you'll find one that works for you
CONS: If you have multiple kids, you could be there for a while
When I joined the YMCA, they were offering a program with ongoing personal trainer consultations and a customized training program. Very helpful for me since I wasn't sure what exercises/equipment would produce the results I wanted. It's really a cost-effective alternative to traditional gyms and is certainly more family friendly. The daycare was also handy.
Enjoyable workouts and something to appeal to all ages - from swimming lessons to kickboxing.
PROS: Great alternative to traditional gym, something for everyone
CONS: Can be incredibly busy in evenings, weekends
Mango's Place has been fabulous! It's an hourly day care center right off of Polaris and it's been a real lifesaver for me! I have a home business and keep my smallest children at home. Mango's is a great option when I need to run to a client meeting - or a movie, hair appt, whatever! I've been able to schedule my kids just 1/2 hour before I planned to drop them off so it's incredibly flexible.
It's very colorful and bright. There's a jungle gym right in the middle of the room and nearly any toy you can imagine. Computers, reading, art activities. The staff is great! You have the option to purchase cards with different time increments for savings per hour. My kids really enjoy it!
PROS: Lots of fun for kids through 7 yrs old, great when Mom needs a break!
CONS: They really need to be open 24/7! ;-)
Does that sound like a commercial? Anyway, I've always had a lot of luck shopping at Old Navy. Since I have four children, it's important to find reasonably priced clothes that pass the "peer test." My boys are at the age when clothes really take a beating so it really doesn't make sense to invest a great deal. Old Navy offers a great solution! Shop the clearance racks and you can usually get some great deals.
PROS: Low-cost but satifactory quality and style
CONS: Why are there only two registers open when there are 50 people in line?
I have never been a big fan of chain child care centers. They seemed so sterile and generic. And how could they show my child the love and attention he/she deserves if they are caring for 20 other kids?
When they opened a Children's World up very close to our home, we were looking for a pre-school for one of my children. Since it was so close, we decided to look into it and we were pleasantly surprised. The facility and the staff were very nice and the children looked happy. We were satisfied with the cirriculum that would prepare our child for kindergarten. It really was a good experience for two of our children and in the fall, we'll start another one.
PROS: Convenient, kept kids engaged and happy, lots of fun
CONS: turnover - my son had trouble adjusting from one teacher to the next
Our dog had a habit of urinating when she got excited. Each and every time we took her to the vet's office, she peed. Sometimes on the technician, the vet or just on the floor. They always laughed, gave her a good rub and cleaned it up - they are truly animal people. They don't kisses either.
In terms of medical care, Lucy was well taken care of. Besides check-ups, she also was "fixed." They were very comforting to her (and to us). The vet would spend plenty of time with us - answering questions, explaining treatments and loving Lucy. Highly recommended!
PROS: Lots of love, attention and superior medical care
There have been gas stations between I-70 and 23 for a while but they have just recently added a BP in front of Polaris Fashion Place. It's convenient and usually competitively priced. It has a very large refueling lot - plenty of room to get in and out. Swipe your credit card to get in and out in a hurry. Also, since the gas station is new, it's nice and bright inside. It looks pretty clean and has a large selection.
PROS: Convenient, plenty of room, pay at the pump
CONS: Sometimes priced higher than others in the area
The Speedway is conveniently located (although cars trying to turn right on State Street to get into the Polaris left turn only lane are a pain). It's often busy but people seem to move through pretty quickly. The employees are mostly helpful and friendly. Product selection is reasonable and not too outrageously priced. The store is looking very dirty and dingy (I stopped to buy a Subway sub there one day and there were gnats flying around the counter) and sometimes it's a battle to get gas as the lot is small but attracts many cars.
PROS: Convenient, friendly and helpful employees, good location
CONS: Looks dirty and dingy, small refueling and parking area
