Located in an attractive new building downtown, this library offers first class services to county residents. Plenty of computers for public use, banks of books on tape, large print, great children's section and like any good library, it's a hub for many community educational and art activities. Busy in the summer and school holidays. Good parking.
The name gant means something to the locals - Harry Gant was a big racing star and the town remembers him. This place is on the way out of town and offers convenient location and cheap gas. Pretty much the cheapest in fact.
One stop shopping - get your prescription drugs at the big new Wal-Mart along with toothpaste, dog food, hair dye, garden gnomes, and a lawnmower. The prescription service is perhaps pennies cheaper than elsewhere and the health products are extensive and definitely cheaper. I'd go there first. Sorry to say, they're driving many smaller pharmacies out.
This place has had the same location for years on Highway 16 south. It has local good old friendly southern agents who really do know how to handle claims and sell you good policies. Fram Bureau is conservative and simple - as good as that gecko guy. I use them for most all my insurance needs.
the Dollar Tree is a great chain - everything a dollar and they don't let you forget it. you can buy everything from olive oil to cosmetics to candles to bubble bath. It's another budget stretcher - get some things cheaper than even Family Dollar. Worth a look but you're bound to come away with more than you wanted or needed.
This is a store that offers cheaper prices than the new Wal_mart and so is still patronized by people who really are looking for bargains. If you have time to shop around you can get lots of household items here for just a few dollars and stretch the budget. But we worry that it will be knocked off by Wal-Mart.
Radio Shack is a chain that sells a lot of useful things - little electronic gadgets, batteries, head phones, cell phones. The service is helpful and the store is easily accessible on Main Ave near the light.
Food Lion is a good chain but this one has to compete with a newly expanded super Wal-Mart in a very small catchment area. It used to be the only big store and get all the business. it's local and friendly and has good store brands and decent parking. But.....
This Wal-Mart sits among so many other great stores and restaurants you'd be crazy not to shop there. My only warning - the traffic around the shopping center is pure hell every day and worse on holidays. It's in a cul de sac and you might not want to get caught in there.
This used to be a smal small Wal-Mart. For years it was the only entertainment for residents on a Sunday - everyone shopped there even though it was then about the size of a regular grocery store that didn't sell groceries. Now it's expanded to Super status and everyone still shops there on Sundays. it drove at least one large grocery store out of business but has caused lots of new places, especially fast food, to spring up around it. Good thing or bad thing? Both?
