I had my navel pierced here four years ago and was (and still am) very satisfied. My best friend had her nose done at the same time. This is an extremely clean piercing establishment with a great staff. My navel still looks lovely and healed very nice. Many people get their piercing done here. The near to South street location is great.
The Second Mile is One of the most popular thrift/consignment shops in University City. It lies on 45th Street between Locust and Walnut. They have constant drop offs and great items. You can drop your old things here if you'd like. There is also a Second Mile Too store a few doors down and I think there may be even another one. I am in a singing group and our instruments were stolen last year. They turned up here! Thank goodness, they gave them back to us for free.
PROS: Nice Items
CONS: There's ALWAYS a car or truck double parked in front of the store
I'd not been to the dentist since I was a child and finally bit the bullet and made an appointment at this one. It did nothing to alleviate my fears. This office is very clean and they have friendly people at the desk who remember who you are. There are about 4 dentists working there. However, the dentist I had (who shall remain nameless) had not the nicest bedside manner. He was pretty curt every time I visited. I had 4 extractions on four separate dates and the last one must have given him hell, because I ended up getting about 6 Novocain shots, because I wouldn't numb (he mentioned something about maybe missing the nerve...then kind of sounded like he didn't believe me when I said I could still feel. Then when I was finally numb, he was wrenching and wrenching tugging and pulling, and when he finally pulled out the tooth, it came out in pieces and I heard him mumbling to the hygienist about "sutures" and "other piece" and "cutting into the jaw" but he never told me what was going on and I guess I could have said "Uh, doc, wha gowan oh wi ma mowf?" but I was petrified! Anyway, I now plan to NEVER go to the dentist again and just let my teeth lie where they fall!
PROS: Friendly Staff. Other Dentists probably good
CONS: Dr. Such-and-Such
Not that I am a cheapskate (I am), but Forman Mills is the Place to Be. I must say that most of my wardrobe consists of Forman Mills clothing. You can find name brand clothing here for dirt cheap prices. Some is out of season (like I care!) or slightly irregular (rarely) but most of their items are great and you can get them for really good prices. It can be a bit hard to find what you want on some of the shelves, but that's fine by me.
Superfresh is the Tiffany's of Grocery Stores. Which is to say you will walk in and hear angels singing (Ahhhhhh!) then you will pick up an item ("Good Lord! $4.50 for a loaf of bread???") I am of course exaggerating. This Super Fresh is beautiful, yet a tad pricier than other super markets. It's clean, the food is fresh...it's well lit! I go here if I am in the neighborhood...but not often.
I have seven tattoos and 5 have been done @ Everlasting Art. The first was done elsewhere because I didn't know about Everlasting Art. I got 5 @ Everlasting and one when I was out of town. They do phenomenal tattooing and the guys that tattoo are surprisingly down to earth. It's a small tattoo studio perched in University City on a quiet block that doesn't quite match it, but it's next to a Pizza shop (YuM!) and they have a great selection of Tattoo art. Three of the five tattoos I had done here, I brought in the sketches, so they'll put anything you want on your skin. Highly Recommended!
This is the first restaurant that someone took me to for Pho soup. I'd no idea before what Pho soup was. I was very please with the size of the bowls and with all of the garnish (basil, sproups, lime wedge, etc.) that comes with it. I didn't know until after I ate my Chicken Pho that "Pho" means Beef soup! I don't eat beef! However, my stomach didn't react badly and that was by far the best soup, Pho and otherwise, I'd ever had. The place is not fancy, but the soup is delicious.
This is a very popular music store for Musicians in the PhiIadelphia are. I am in a performing group (a capella & percussion) and we come to 8th Street Music for some of our instruments. The only thing is please do not leave your car in the tow-away zone even for a second, because I"VE BEEN TOWED!!! Aside from the towing, the place is always busy, the staff is really nice and the prices are also very good.
PROS: Great Musical Instruments, nice prices
CONS: Hard to find parking
I was very grumpy when I went here because it was my birthday and I was tricked into going...I thought I was going shopping and this was my "surprise!" However, the staff was very very friendly and made me feel very comfortable even though being pampered is not something I am really into. As a first timer, for me this placve was great...you should check it out.
Dr. Berkowitz is an excellent chiropractor and an all-round great person. Her office has a friendly admosphere and quite simply, she cures what ailes ya! Her prices are VERY reasonable. Highly Recommended!
