If you are looking for a Dr. who will bend over backwards for you I totally recommend Dr. Brodale. He has helped my family in so many ways. He is nice & actually listens to your problems. I never feel rushed when I have an appointment. In fact, sometimes HE is the one being chatty! He helped my mom fill out forms so she can get one of her prescriptions for free from the drug companies. All the ladies working in his office and very friendly. They don't have the snooty attitude that some of the office workers in my old Dr's office had. I have my whole family as patients of Dr. Brodale and I have been very happy with my choice.
When the car gets dirty from driving on the country roads I take it to West Side Car Wash. This is not an automatic car wash...you will actually do all the washing yourself but it does allow you to cheaply wash your car. At the West Side Car Wash you deposit $1 in quarters and it gives you a couple of minutes to wash your car. If you deposit more quarters before time runs out you can deposit 1 quarter at a time. These facilities are always kept clean and tidy and I am always able to get in and out without waiting in line.
The Bloomfield Democrat is a nice alternative to the news you will find in the Ottumwa Courier. The Democrat is a weekly paper that comes out on Wednesdays. It features a lot of home town news that is stuff that you really want to read about. This is definately the place to look if you need information on little league sign ups, etc. The paper is affordable as well. Right now you can get 13 months for $39 or you can buy it for $1 an issue at the grocery store or gas stations.
While this store has a nice selection of all things hardware, I wouldn't recommend shopping there unless you need the item right away. When we first moved into our house we were having problems with fuses blowing. After we blew all of our fuses I sent my husband out to the hardware store to buy some more. He stopped into Hamilton Hardware because my uncle said that that was probably the only place that carried them. When he got up to the checkout he was stunned to hear that his pack of fuses cost over $8! These are the same fuses we can buy at Wal-Mart (and we've now seen them at Pamida) for $3. I don't know the prices of other things in the store but I would imagine that if fuses are that expensive then the whole store seems to run high as well.
I stopped into this antique store during the holidays when Bloomfield was having a lot of Christmas activities on the square. I had never been in this store before and I was pleasantly surprised. This store is full of great, affordable antiques. The old metal signs were some of my favorite. They also feature a section where they sell drinks. Their hot chocolate sure hit the spot on that wintry cold day.
I'm picky when it comes to picking a gas station. I won't go to one that looks dumpy or unclean inside. When I first moved to Bloomfield I received a coupon for Gas N Mor for $5 off gas. Since gas is outrageous I was willing to give the gas station a try. What I found was a nice, clean gas station. It was spacious inside with a nice selection of snacks and drinks. The cashiers were friendly and I've never had to wait long to get waited on.
Long gone are the days when you had to pay a small fortune to run a classified ad in the newspaper. Thanks to the Dandy Dollar you can run an ad for as little as a dollar with more circulation that The Ottumwa Courier. The first 15 words of your ad are only $1 and it is only $.05 per word after that. The staff are very friendly and are quickly able to get your ad set up and ready to go. You just can't beat the value that you get with the Dandy Dollar.
After dealing with the disappointment of the Ottumwa school system, I was really looking forward to having my daughter enter the Davis County School system. I am truly convinced that my daughter is in the best school in the area. The staff in incredibly helpful and the teachers actually do their jobs. I can't tell you how excited I was that my 2'nd grade daughter was actually learning something! The school has a lot of neat events that parents can attend such as "Donuts for Dads" & "Mini rolls with Mom".
I visited Making Memories after seeing an advertisement in the newspaper announcing Yankee candles. I had recieved a coupon for their store when I first moved to Bloomfield and I was hoping to use it to buy some candles. Making Memories is a nice store with a lot of great gift ideas. They have a decent sized Yankee candle selection in the center of the store. Their prices were pretty good. I even picked up a few candles on sale. The saleswomen were friendly and helpful and I left the store knowing that I would definately be back in.
Sure, Keith's doesn't have the selection that some of the large chain stores have but it is still one of my favorite grocery stores. I prefer to go to Keith's Foods rather than Wal-Mart because of their service. From the moment you enter Keith's you are treated like a valued customer. The staff, from the cashiers to the stockmen, are very friendly and are always willing to help out. I like being able to quickly get in an out of the store if I just need one thing. There aren't long lines because they call more cashiers up if they see they are getting busy. The sales at Keith's are great. You can really find some good deals in their weekly ads.
