Huerfano Books has a great selection of used books. Their prices are reasonable and they also accept trades. The last time I was there, if you brought in two books you got to pick out one book. I assume its still the same. I have never found parking to be a problem. And I have never felt rushed when browsing.
Skyline Vision Clinic isn't the best, but they get the job done. The parking is lacking. Some of the employees are grouchy. Their selection in minimal and their prices are on the high side. Another thing I didn't like was the amount of time you have to wait even though you have an appointment. I've been three different times, and its been the same each time.
Rocky Mountain Bank and Trust is a small bank on Main Street. The parking situation isn't the greatest, but the service is pretty good. They offer free checking and a decent gift for opening an account. On Fridays they have free popcorn in the lobby. They also have free notary service. Overall, a nice little bank with great service and freindly employees.
Penrose Country Market is where I shop for groceries. It is a small store by grocery store standards, but the selection isn't bad at all. The employees are friendly and helpful. Its like Skyline used to be in Florence...small store with a quaint small town feel where the regulars are known by name. All in all, a nice little store.
Skyline Super Foods used to be a great place to shop for groceries. It had an intimate small town feel to it. The owner was always there and everyone knew you by name. They recently moved to a bigger store and changed the name to Big D's Super Foods. What a shame! Sure the store is bigger and newer, but it lost its charm. Now its just another big grocery store where all the customers are the same. If you do go there though, stay away from the deli. I know several people who have gotten sick right after eating there.
I don't understand how Royal Gorge Gourmet Popcorn stays in business. Sure they have a good location right on Main Street in Florence, but I have never seen anyone buy anything from them. Their prices are insanely high. I guess you're mainly paying for the packaging and not the popcorn. If you're looking for fancy packaging, give them a look. If you're in the market for popcorn (gourmet or otherwise), my advice is to try some place else.
If you haven't been to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, its worth a visit, but try to go on one of the days that Fremont county residents get in for free. The price of admission on a normal day will shock you. It is high! Overall though, its a neat place to visit with lots of parking. They have several rides and the bridge itself is great. It will keep the kids entertained for an afternoon pretty easily, but like I said...bring plenty of money.
Royal Gorge Truck Center gives all towing companies a bad name in my opinion. The best way to describe them is to say they are totally unprofessional. The owner can be heard cursing and yelling at employees. I have heard some employees yell back at him. I have also seen people quit in the middle of a job. Royal Gorge Truck Center should only be called as a last resort.
Florence Public Library is small by library standards, but Florence is a small town. If you keep that in mind when you go, I don't think you'll be disappointed. They have a nice selection of periodicals and regional books. The library is a mess now because they are in the process of moving to a bigger building. The new location will provide lots more room for books and hopefully computers. From the looks of it, the parking situation will improve at the new facility as well.
If you ever need to board a pet, I would recommend Kenline Veterinary Clinic. Everyone working there is friendly, understanding and helpful. They will let you see where your pet will be staying and explain their daily routine. Everything seems to be clean and there isn't a pet poopy smell in the air. I know my cat received quality care at Kenline when I had to board her.
