It's so sad. This is one of my favorite restaurants in town as far as the food goes. There is nothing better than walking over from my office at lunch to sit on the shady patio and eat a nice salad. However, I've stopped going because the inattentive waitstaff have repeatedly caused my lunch to run over my allowed one hour.
Seriously, is there any reason ice water and a salad should take 75-90 minutes to order, serve and pay for?
Anyhow. If you have time and patience, the food is worth it. I recommend the Ensalada Buenos Aires, which is lettuce mix with white beans, artichoke hearts, avocado and tomato, and optional chicken or shrimp. I also like the entree called "Silvia's New Dish" which is grilled salmon served atop sauteed spinach, with a grilled portabella mushroom and mango salsa.
My absolute favorite thing there, though, is the chimichurri dipping sauce served with bread that is given to each table. Awesome!
Anyhow. I hold out hopes that Cafe Buenos Aires will hire some waitstaff and management who understand the need to pay attention to their tables, so that I can begin eating at one of my favorite restaurants again!
PROS: food is excellent
CONS: service is atrociously slow and inattentive
Island is the best - they stock a full range of organic/natural products as well as "conventional" products. The owners and employees are always helpful and try to answer all my questions or to refer me to people who can. Their selection is fantastic, ranging from poultry supplies and pet food to bulk cover crop seed to started vegetables, with just about everything in between. An extra bonus in spring and summer is the big brooder full of cute little poultry chicks... such fun to watch!
An added bonus is that they are a driving force behind Santa Barbara's organic/pesticide-free movement.
PROS: Selection, LOCAL, friendly
Western Pet has been very helpful to me on several occasions. First of all, it's always nice when their sweet old dog greets me in the parking lot with a wagging tail. It's like having a Wal-Mart greeter only way, way better! They have a great selection of things you might need for your dog, cat, horse or livestock, and they will answer questions and give advice about products, including recommending something better if I seem to be on the wrong track.
PROS: Selection, LOCAL, friendly
CONS: occasionally hard to get to in summer tourist traffic
Ah, my Sunday home sweet home. I can't believe I still don't have a washer at my house.
Anyhow, this is a great laundromat. It's always VERY clean, and pretty quiet. No graffiti or dirty machines, and usually classic rock on the radio. Plenty of large-sized machines for those of us who would rather wash two big loads than six small (light, dark is about as much sorting as I do). Not too expensive on the prices - a single-loader is $1.25 and it goes up from there.
And the dryers actually dry a load in under 40 minutes!
Seriously - having to use the laundromat sucks. But it will suck less if you go here!
Santa Barbara Running is the best in town! With the encouragement and support of the staff I've gone from couch potato to marathon finisher.
They are knowledgeable and friendly and take the time to get you into the shoes (or other equipment) that are right for you. It's also a great store to pick up running or walking supplies such as energy gels, water bottle packs, blister-free socks, or running magazines.
They also do a great job supporting the local running community through race sponsorships and running clinics.
We own THREE Volvos. And hubby used to work for a Volvo place. So we know these cars, and we also know a good mechanic when we find one.
If I could find the guy who recommended SWEDEMASTERS to us, I'd buy him lunch.
Tim at Swedemasters is knowledgeable, friendly, and likes to give his customers a deal. We have NEVER had an exorbitant bill here... and our Volvos are 1994, 1981 and 1979, so you know they need work....
My husband brought in his 1979 240GT thinking it needed a $200 part plus labor... Swedemasters found the problem, fixed it, and it turned out it was just a rusted relay. $50 instead of $300... I'll take it!
Businesses like this are what give me faith to remain a consumer!
PROS: knowledgeable, HONEST
