Hollywood Video has a much better selection of movies than Blockbuster. The store is more spacious and comfortable for browsing. For a while at least, you needed to fill out different applications to rent from different Hollywood Videos, which was annoying (not sure if that is still the case). It's expensive, but sometimes you can get a coupon to make it more reasonable.
Blockbuster is ok if you want to see the latest major releases, but the selection is poor overall. Prices are not bad for older movies or if you use a coupon. It's mediocre, but still handy on occasion.
Trader Joe's has very high quality food, at very reasonable prices. Try the sourdough bread and the extra chocolate chip cookies. Selection is limited but what they have is very good. The Sunnyvale Trader Joe's is even better than this one.
Home Depot has an incredible selection of products and very reasonable prices. It is sometimes hard to find what you want since the store is so big and not well-labeled. But the employees are very helpful. Recommended.
Funcoland is actually now Gamestop. It's a good place to look for video games. Prices are average. Selection is good but nothing spectacular. They also sometimes have games for older systems.
Whole Foods is a very good market for premium/organic/health food. They also have good unsalted tortilla chips. Sometimes they put out samples of their fruits to try. Downside? It's expensive to shop there.
PROS: good food, samples
Petco is expensive compared to a place like Pet Club. But they do have a good selection, are conveniently located on El Camino, and accept credit cards. Occasionally they have good offers such as rebates on pet food. All in all, an average pet supply store.
PROS: good selection and location
CONS: there are cheaper, better stores
Pet Club, despite the name, does not require any membership. They have great prices on pet products, and friendly staff. They often have excellent sales on certain items (specific foods or litters) too. They do not accept credit cards, but you can pay by ATM card if you don't have enough cash.
PROS: great prices, pleasant place to shop
CONS: credit cards not accepted
See's Candies has very good chocolates (I especially like the scotchmallows and butterchews). It is pretty expensive, though you can buy See's certificates at Costco to lower the price per pound. It tends to get crowded. They give free samples, and feel free to ask for a different kind of chocolate than the sample that they offer.
CONS: Somewhat expensive, often crowded
This Precision Tune used to be great when a mechanic named Jason worked there. He has since left, and with his departure the quality got worse. They may still be decent for oil changes and the like, and do send out coupons. But the people were rather rude the last time I went there, and certainly don't seem to care much.
PROS: no appointment needed, cheaper than some places
CONS: staff less helpful than before
