This is one of those fun stores where you need to leave the kids at home so you have time to just LOOK. They have an assortment of stickers for just about every scrap booking idea possible. They have a nice selection and layout of books on display near the back of the store. There is also a room in the back where you can meet for scrap booking classes or to work on ideas. The store also carries an assortment of instructional materials for beginners. If you are a beginner don't be scared by the selection you will find. You just might find the inspiration you need to get started. But beware- you could find yourself starting an expensive hobby because you will want to buy everything in the store.
PROS: Wonderful selection of items for scrapbooking
CONS: Not a cheap hobby
If you are wanting to learn the art of Taekwondo or wanting to get you child in a form of martial arts where they will not only excel but learn self defense as well you should check out the ATA Black Belt Academy in Frisco. Mr. Ryan Haller is the instructor of this school. They teach safety classes for children and also have instruction for first degree and up. Mr. Haller is a very good instructor having been at the Rockwall school for several years and is wonderful with children.
The University of Texas at Dallas is one of the parts of the University of Texas system that generally gets overlooked. Long overlooked due to the larger universities in the system and their athletic programs this school was thought of as the technical school. Well it still is however it is definitely coming into it's own with several prize winning facility members along with it's growing by leaps and bounds. There are new facilities being built and new partnerships with local firms, which are helping it, bring a new light on technology and research capabilities. It would be an honor to receive a diploma from such a school.
I attended the All American Driving School for a defensive driving class. The instructor was extremely good at her job and makes it very easy to sit and listen the 8 hours while we were there. If this instructor was any indication of the type they have then it is no wonder the place is usually crowded. I have seen so many teenagers waiting to take the regular driving classes that I am sure I will be signing my boys up when the time is ready.
Kids Kingdom, which is a community built wooden playground for the area kids, is located in the larger Pecan Park in Rowlett just off of Hwy. 66. It is in the same area as the Rowlett Community Center and the Wet Zone. Kid's Kingdom is shaped like a large wooden castle and has several fun activities for kids to play on including a shaky bridge, several slides, swings for young and older kids along with a smaller area in the back reserved for babies and toddlers. This is a great shady place for kids to come and play. We even have brought bikes over and while the younger kids were playing at the park the older ones were riding the bikes on the trails to the side and the back of the park. You will usually see a family or two picnicking under the large trees in the park. It is a perfect place to escape the summer heat and boredom.
My first time in the Little Gym on Lakeview Parkway in Rowlett was around Christmas time for a child in my son's kindergarten class's birthday party. I didn't know what to expect. I really like the way the area is laid out. When you enter you (the parent) is able to sit on chairs arranged to look out into the "play" area where all the mats, trampolines, etc. are arranged in another room. This makes a lot of sense because you can see your child however they have their full attention on the instructor. For the birthday party they received a certain amount of time on the mats then there is a room in the back where you can have cake and other items you bring in, sandwiches, etc. It is a great choice instead of doing a birthday party at home or other types of parties for smaller children.
PROS: Great instructors
Tools for Teachers located in Rockwall in the Brookshire?s shopping center offers quite a bit of items for teachers along with parents or home schooling parents for their children. They have a great selection of die cut items and bulletin board materials. They are very well organized and you can find quite a bit of items on just about any subject you may need.
I love going to Studio Movie Grill. When my husband and I first got married they had a theater with a similar concept in Virginia and we use to love going there and getting a steak while we watched a movie. We were definitely excited when we found out that there was a theater with the same concept in the Dallas area. This theater is very nice and has ample parking in their location off of Park in Plano just to the east of Preston Road. They offer anything from pizzas on the menu to drinks and kids meals. Now don't expect that it will be cheap. We had to stop going because with three kids it does get pricey. It is great for a date night or a get away from the kid?s night for the parents. They do offer summer specials for kids? movies and the chairs are extremely comfortable. I only wish there was one a little closer to where we live in Rockwall.
PROS: Great seating, good food
CONS: A bit pricey
Fried Ant Anime is an interesting name for a store and I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we walked into the store one day. It is a smaller store located in the shopping center in Rockwall off of 205 tucked in behind the KFC. They have quite a collection of anime dvds and a few tshirts and other memorabilia. They usually have drawings on the walls that local kids have drawn of superheroes and anime icons. A very interesting place to visit indeed.
PROS: cool items
The Shanks Jewelers in Rockwall located off of Ridge Road by Video Village is a great little jewelry store. They are more than willing to specially order a piece and have it ready when you need it. A good place to browse as they have quite a few collectibles (figurines, glass pieces, etc) as well as a good selection of jewelry.
PROS: Home town friendly
