Ruppert Wash & Dry
There are a number of laundrymat's to choose from on the upper east side, but this seems like one of the better ones. It is very clean inside and the owners are very nice. They have dry cleaning services available to you as well. The hours are quite good which is very helpful when you work extra long hours.
Gl Lites On Limited
Lites On is a very good lighting and fixture store on the upper east side. They have a very good selection of lamps and lights. I stopped by when I moved into my new place and bought a number of great editions to the apt for dirt cheap. I think they might be moving locations unfortunately.
Amy's Grocery Inc
There isn't anything too special about this local grocery store. It just happens to be across the street from me. It carries a small selection of everday items you might need at a cheap price. Of course, there is a gristede's around the corner so if you really need some groceries it's probably better to go there. At least this place has good hours
Candy Plaza Incorporated
Candy Plaza is a great little candy store on the upper east side. If you have a sweet tooth its definitely worth stopping by, especially since there aren't any other real candy stores in the area. They also have very good frozen yogurt with more flavor selections than the tasty delite across the street. I'm always surprised more people don't go here.
Number 1 Farmers Market
When you are in the market for some fresh produce this is a better option than waiting in line at the local gristedes. All of the fruit here is very fresh and tasty. It's probably cheaper to buy from the guys selling on the street, but the quality here may be worth the extra cost. They have fairly good hours as well.
Alberts Shoe Repair
I don't normally go to stores to have my shoes fixed. It seems more like something women have to do. However, my favorite pair of shoes needed a little work so I took them here. They did a great job and now my shoes are back in shape. They also can make key copies which is pretty helpful when you lose them a lot
Food For Health Inc
I just moved across the street from food for health and now I'm a regular customer. Eating healthy isn't very east because most grocery stores don't carry the products you want. This place has just about everything I could ask for from organic products to weight gainer products. The people are very helpful and the prices are reasonable
Craft Studio
This place is great. I don't often get in the mood to do arts and crafts projects, but the craft studio manages to inspire me. They have all sorts of materials in there. If you're creative, need reasonably priced materials, and live on the upper east side then this is the place for you.
Abc Carpet & Home Company Inc
Although hideously expensive (but they do have sales!), ABC has the most gorgeous furniture, lamps, fabrics, bed linens, etc. I just purchased an amazing oriental carpet for my new apt at a reasonable price. If you have an entire salary you'd like to spend, this is the place (it's also a great place to browse on a Saturday afternoon).
