I love, love my local Safeway. Not only does it carry some organic produce, but the variety of people that shop there entertains me to no end. When stressed out in my life, I go walk the aisles of this Safeway, and it always calms me down, and puts things into perspective. I've seen leather daddies parading in their chaps, I've seen drag queens at their best, I've seen normal people having those munchie cravings and giggling to themselves...this is a great place to get your cereal and people watch.
PROS: A whole health food section, and a diverse shopping clientel.
This Petco always seems understaffed for some reason. I always have a hard time asking a representative for crickets. Though it is well-stocked, like all Petco's, I prefer going to other stores in the city because of the understaffing. I have had some positive experiences with the staff here, but I also have noticed staff that don't really seem to be up to working (taking breaks, or walking away from customers). The accessibility of the location is nice, because I can go do several errands at once, such as going to Safeway or Old Navy and Petco in the same outing. However, I would not go out of my way to go to this Petco.
CONS: Lack of staff, or willing staff
I love Bean There. Not only does it have the best, strongest, coffee available, it also provides a great atmosphere for reading, chatting, working on-line, or even just people watching. The prices are SF prices, no more or less, and staff service varies from extremely nice to indifferent. I am an avid mocha drinker, and my son always gets to "kid's hot chocolate." If you ask just for the small, though, you'll get charged for a regular small drink size, $2 something, so make sure if you want the small for a small fry, you ask for the "kid's hot chocolate." Location is on a great corner, not too busy, but within walking distance of the Lower Haight. During the early afternoon, you can catch parents w/ their babies, college students, on-line workers, just about anyone hanging out. Great place to grab some coffee and sit down.
CONS: Very busy on weekend mornings, not enough sitting space.
