Rudys Barber Shop
Rudy's has several convenient locations in Seattle in Capitol Hill, U District, and Phinney Ridge. They offer quick haircuts....no frills but good haircuts at a very reasonable price. They also provide great buzzcuts. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, but usually it's not too long, especially if you can avoid busy times, such as Saturday.
Broadway News
Steve's Broadway News probably has the widest variety of daily newspapers in Seattle. If you're interested in news from other major American cities or international news, you can find the paper you're looking for here! And for those of us not originally from Seattle, this can be a great way to keep in touch with home. Steve's also has a decent selection of magazines and periodicals.
Sonic Boom Records
Sonic Boom is a must for music lovers, whether you're visiting the Fremont area or not. They carry all sorts of music, including a large selection of local artists. Need assistance? The staff is more than willing to help out and to make recommendations, no matter what your musical tastes are.
Come support this wonderful local music store!
Deluxe Junk
The title pretty much says it all. Deluxe Junk carries pretty much everything under the sun, especially when it comes to used hidden treasures. I've found several great pieces of used furniture that at first glance looked pretty bad, but on second look and with a little work, they're now beautifully displayed in my house. Plus the little kiddies love to uncover kids' toys from the past!
Atlas Clothing Used & Vintage
I pass by Atlas on my walk to and from work every day, and more often than not I get pulled in...just to see what unique vintage finds I might uncover. I'm not real taken the selection they put outside each day, but that doesn't stop me from venturing inside the store to browse around...great used jeans and vintage shirts from the 70s and 80s abound! Definitely check out Atlas if you haven't yet....even if you don't find something vintage you like, it's a lot of fun just taking a walk through the past. \
Jive Time Records
Does Fremont offer the best shopping options in Fremont? If you're looking for collectible vinyl records, it sure does, thanks to Jive Time. I'm not much of a collector, but even still I was astounded by the selction of old vinyl lps at Jive Time. Their specialties are in rock and soul/R&B. If that's not your cup of tea, you can also peruse their used cds section, and feel free to get recommendations from the knowledgeable staff.
Beyond The Closet Bookstore
Beyond the Closet is Seattle's premiere (and perhaps only?) gay and lesbian focused bookstore. Book subjects include gay and lesbian history, popular culture, and fiction. The store also carries some mainstream titles, and it has a very large selection of out-of-the-mainstream magazines, including popular culture, news, and adult themed magazines. Check it out...definitely a break from your regular bookstore!
Larrys Markets
Larry's has a great selection of produce, seafood, and a really nice assortment of beer and wine. The store is clean, nicely stocked, and has very friendly staff. However, it's probably the highest priced mainstream grocery store in Seattle. For regular grocery items, you're better off just going to QFC or Safeway, and the central markets and Madison Market offer better selections of organic produce at less expensive prices.
Pcc Natural Markets
PCC rocks! They have a great selection of organic and natural foods, including fresh produce, frozen foods, and snack items. Their bakery and deli is unbelieveable, with delicious and healthy food choices, many of which are either made on site or locally. PCC can get a little pricey, but it's more than worth it, given the high quality of the food and products you're getting.
Art & Soul
Owner Stacy Davis has crafted a unique paint your own pottery store in Buckhead, called Art and Soul. The premise is pretty straightforward...you pick out a piece of pottery, paint it, and then the store bakes it in a high temperature kiln, producing a lovely painted glazed piece of pottery. Kids absolutely love this place, and it's a great way to while away an afternoon. Finished pieces make you look like you're a world renowned artist!
