When the recreation center was completed, many local health centers were dismayed because of the competition; however, many locals (as do I) feel that it is a great addition to our community. For affordable prices, there is a nice facility to bring your family to year-round for swimming, working out, sports, daycare, and some community functions. Downside is that more people also can mean more problems: crowding which leads to lots of undesirable behavior when you are trying to relax or enjoy the pool.
I was lucky enough to be referred to this salon one day when I was looking for a last minute hair cut. The hairstylists take pride in their work and the one that I use consistently is a perfectionist (something I value in a hairstylist). Great shop is attached to the salon with groovy styles. Great looking salon.
When my family was in the market for a used SUV, we were repeatedly lied to at this auto center. We wasted a total of 3 months waiting for this center to find a vehicle for us instead of them being honest and telling us that they did not have what we were looking for. We were told that different vehicles were on their way to the shop for us to look at only to have them rejected at the last minute (lots of missed work for nothing). The salespeople would not contact us when we left messages inquiring about the vehicles and we eventually had to travel out of state to find our new used car (which we did in one weekend).
Though I have had the experience of having my automobiles worked on multiple times before the problem was fixed/diagnosed at this shop, I feel it is one of the only auto repair shops in town that have honest mechanics. I have also been told this from a mechanic friend of mine too. Prices are standard, but wait time is usually long due to the popularity of this shop.
Trimble Hot Springs is the only hot springs offered in Durango, which is nice, but for 2 small hot springs, and one large pool the price of admission seems a bit steep. A nice way to relax, but I opt for driving to Pagosa Springs so I can have a choice of approximately 10 pools with a much nicer view at the same price.
Thru the Lens offers old time photos of you and your loved ones so that the Durango expereince can never be forgotten. I have had 3 experiences at this photo shop, and always treasure the photos, but have two complaints: first, the staff can be rude (rushing the clients along, with not much help) and the price of the photos is outlandish for a digitally printed out picture done in minutes.
In the Humane Society Thrift Store, you can find treasures that are no longer wanted by others, but are new to you. The best part is that all proceeds go to taking care of the animals in the animal shelter, so they can get a better chance of finding a good home, instead of being euthanized.
Ken & Sues is the place I opt for when I want gourmet food in Durango. It's hard to choose an entree. because they all sound so good, but you'll be pleased with anything on the menu. Somewhat pricey, but worth it. Restaurant is a bit small, with seating somewhat cramped.
Beads and Beyond is the only place to go in Durango where you'll definitely find what you need for making your beaded treasures. They even offer beautiful gifts for those of you who don't relish in the art of beading. Awesome staff and when you pass up the store downtown, the smell of the place draws you in.
Maria's Bookstore is one of those bookstores you are drawn to. The store is beautiful and has a nice selection of books, and they are always willing to order anything they don't have in stock. I wish that the back room area that was formerly an herbal store was a little coffeeshop/sitting area. I think that would make the store perfect.
