Flower Market
This Star Market is very conveniently located for residents of Brookline as well as Boston College students. However, the store itself is quite small, with tiny aisles that make it difficult to maneuver around other customers during busy shopping times. They carry most standard supermarket items, but their produce section does leave something to be desired. It is not as extensive as some other stores I've been to, and it could stand to be a bit fresher at times.
G2O Spa & Salon
I had the pleasure of having my first massage at Giuliano Day Spa. It was absolute bliss. The atmosphere they create is extremely relaxing and comfortable. The locker room and massage rooms themselves are extremely well-kept, and the staff is extremely professional. It is certainly a treat to be pampered at Giuliano, but I cannot wait to go back.
Whole Foods Market
It is always a treat to shop at Whole Foods. They carry mostly organic produce, as well as their own store brand of other organic products. The cheese section, though smaller than some other Whole Foods I've been to, has plenty of wonderfully unique cheeses, and the staff really knows their stuff. They are extremely pleasant and helpful.
Cvs Pharmacy
The CVS in Newton Centre is a very well organized store. Unlike some other CVS's I've been to in less affluent areas, it is kept fully stocked with complete lines of hair care products and cosmetics, as well as a great selection of seasonal decorations and gifts.
College Sub Shop
A very important establishment for Boston College students. But you might think, if BC has so many dining halls that can make a sub you can put on the meal plan, why pay for a sub from the outside? I thought that way, until I went here. Everything is just really very good. Good quality, good size, good prices. Plus unlike the borderline mentally challenged staff at the dining halls, these folks seem to have received some training in how to make a sub properly.
Flat Breads Cafe
I really like this place. Apparently, they redid their menu completely shortly before I started going there. The old menu featured pizzas, and I'm pretty bummed they don't have that. But what they do have is a huge variety of wraps, either pita or tortilla, using ham, turkey, chicken, beef, crab, lobster, and maybe other things im forgetting. Some very inventive wraps. You can get it hot or cold, I prefer hot! Prices are not high not low.
Maurizio's
I've been to a few places in the North End, and this is my favorite, I think. I took my girlfriend here for our first date, and we had a great time. The food was really great, and the prices are very appropriate (but definitely not cheap). The menu is small, but full of interesting choices. If you're lucky, you'll get to sit on the ground level, which is a small, very intimate room with deep red walls. I have absolutely nothing to gripe about with this place, which is a HUGE compliment (read my other reviews).
Five North Square
I went here last week for my anniversary with my girlfriend. We were greeted by a waitress who said she was really tired, and made us feel like a bother every time we said something. She then proceeded to forget to put my appetizer order in, and told me when my entree came out. My girlfriend's house salad was literally romaine lettuce drowned in Ken's Steak House Italian dressing. It sucked. My entree was pretty good (I had chicken with portabellos in a cream sauce), hers wasn't (shrimp over pasta in a lemon wine sauce)... hers had no flavor whatsoever. Their wine list was half crossed off. The ONLY decent thing about the entire event was my entree, and even that was good but not nearly enough to redeem everything else.
CambridgeSide Galleria
I go to Boston College, and do not have a car. For me, going to Cambridgeside Galleria means traveling from one tip of the green line to the other, which if you dont know is a HAUL. So I gotta say it's pretty inconvenient. But on the plus side, it is very nice! It's not too upscale, but has all the essentials for a college student. Eatery is pretty good too.
Eagles Deli Restaurant
This claim was made by the Travel Channel, and a huge banner outside the restaurant will make sure you are aware of the distinction. I wouldn't quite go this far in describing Eagle's Deli, but I sure do like it a lot. Monster burgers that are delicious, a variety of fries and fry toppings, breakfast all day, and a pretty solid deli counter make up the menu here. If you eat a 1 lb or larger burger, you get your pic up on their wall. Pretty great place all around. Only negative: the corned beef was dry last time I got it.
