McGann's Building Supply is a great building materials store. They carry any type of wood, paneling, nuts, bolts, screws, nails and many other hardware items. If they don't have it, they will order it for you. We needed windows for our mobile home and we wanted them the exact size as the opening. Paul, the business manager, worked with us to get the exact size window and at a price comparable to the larger outlet stores. It pays to shop small. You get better service, just as much variety and the willingness to work with you on any project you may have in mind.

Sleeman's is truly a shop that caters to seasons for all reasons. Whether you want to plan your wedding, decorate for a bridal or baby shower or graduation party they have something for everyone. Their displays are fresh and their house plants the healthiest in the area. In the spring time, their beeding plants are the tops. I have never seen petunias like the ones Bill and Judy Sleeman grow. And they last throughout the whole summer and way into the fall. Christmas time is so special in their shop. You open the door and the smell of pine just fills the air. They have beautiful FTD arrangements anyone on the receiving end would love. They also sell fresh fresh Christmas trees.. Their prices are comparable to any other, but their products and service are above the rest.
Whether you are a farmer, homeowner or pet owner Erickson Feed and Seed can service your needs. They keep quite a bit of feed for farm animals, hay and straw. They also have various kinds of grass seed for the hay seed land owner to the lush green lawns that are seen on Southern Plantations. If you want to feed the outside birds, they offer a wide variety of bird seed both for the inside birds and outside birds. Now for the pet owners. Ther are many different kinds of food that they offer that you could never find in your common grocery store. Many times a pet will require specialized food and this place has it. They also have many nice snacks for our four legged friends. We have gone there many times in the past and will continue to go there for our indoor and out door needs.
Judy started Superior Monogramming out of her house. Her dining room table was her work place. Then little-by-little, the business grew until today it encompasses a whole business area. When Superior Monogramming first started, they did little jobs like hats and a few other things. Now there isn't a job too big or too small that they won't do. And when I say do, 110% is put into each and every piece then turn out. I like monogramming much better than the plastic stuff on t-shirts. Monogramming holds up though washing, wearing, weather and much more. I have a jacket that was monogrammed 11 yearrs ago and it looks as good today after many washings as it did when I first got it. This is a top notch business with top notch people.
The story has it that this quaint place was used as a runner for illegal liquor during prohibition. The owners also claim they have proof it is haunted. It is very close to our house so we eat their often. Do you get good food. YES. They serve the best food around and such a variety. From subs, sandwiches, homemade soups, Friday Night FishFry to those delicious steaks. They also make thier famous homemade potato chips. If you stop there you have to order some of these, they are delicious. The Paradise Gardens also serve a variety of spirits to wet your tongue on a hot summer day or cold winter night. You definitely get a great meal, great service, great company and you just might see a ghost or two.
WOW MAGIC LIGHTS, COSTUMERS. VOODOO, BLACK MAGIC, LINGERIE AND MORE. WHAT CAN I SAY THIS STORE IS TOPS. IT IS LOCATED IN CALUMET AND THE TOWN IS SMALL, BUT DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU. THE AROMA OF MAGIC IS IN THE AIR AT THIS SHOP. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST POPOULAR SHOPS IN CALUMET. IT IS LOCATED ON THE MAIN STREET AND OFFERS SUCH A WIDE VARIETY OF ITEMS, THEY ARE TOO NUMEROUS TOO MENTION. BUT IF YOU WANT TO STEP BACK INTO THE WORLD OF MAGIG AND MYSTERY, STOP IN.
HERMAN'S JEWELERS HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. IT WAS STARTED BY HERMAN LABONTE AND NOW HIS SON CARRIES ON THE TRADITION. THIS IS THE NEATEST STORE TO VISIT. YOU NOT ONLY FIND FIRST RATE JEWELRY, BUT SOME LOCAL COLLECTIBLES ALSO. COPPER IS A BIG ITEM IN THE KEWEENAW AND HERMAN'S JEWELERS CARRIES QUITE A BIT CONSIDERING THE SIZE OF THE STORE. I LOVE GOING THERE AT CHRISTMAS TIME BECAUSE THEY GO ALL OUT WITH THEIR DISPLAYS AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. THE STAFF AS SMALL AS IT IS, IS VERY HELPFUL AND COURTEOUS. IF YOU NEED SOMETHING SPECIAL ORDERED, A WATCH REPAIRED, A GIFT, OR A WEDDING OR ENGAGEMENT RING THAN THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO.
I have never seen such a small little shop as The Lunch Bag cause so much comotion in a small town. This little sandwich shop has dibs on bragging rights. If you want a good old fashioned homemade sandwich , this is the place to go. If you want homemade soup, this is the place to go. If you want curb service, The Lunch Bag is the place to go. When you order a sandwich at the Lunch Bag, you don't just get a sandwich, you get a meal. It's not just two slices of bread, some meat, condiments and you're done. They make sandwiches to die for. Thick, tasty and filling. Their soups taste like they just came out of mom's kettle over the woodstove in the kitchen. There is a little problem with parking, but don't let that stop you from stopping there. This is an enjoyment you won't want to miss.
I am 57 years old and Gartner's Department Store has been around longer than me. It was first opened by Mr. Gartner, then his daughter's husband took over and now the grandson is running the store. It is truly an oldfashioned department store. There are 3 floors of clothing, sewing material, baby items, and furniture. This is truly your 1950-1960 department store of the fast. Yes they are a little pricey, but you do get what you pay for and they have excellent quality merchandise. Sales staff are always helpful and cooperative. It's a pleasure to walk into their store and take a walk back in time. Transactions are still handwritten, no computer for them. What a joy.
