You never know what you'll find at Robinson Salvage ... nor how good the bargains will be ... but you'll almost always find something you want or need!!! Their inventory simply depends on what types of close-outs or other salvage they've been able to obtain. I've seen everything from food to health and beauty items, to wedding dresses, to Wal-mart clothes, to Leather goods, to home appliances, to the bathroom sink! The items will range in condition from brand new, in the box, can't tell there's anything in the world wrong with it ... to been in a fire and noticeably smoke damaged and half melted. You just have to be picky and find what you need in the condition you want it in. You can occasionally get some super deals ... like a $600 golf club for $30 ... or a pair of $65 men's jeans for $2. I tend to avoid the grocery area ... but I was more than happy to buy a perfectly good bathroom vanity for a fraction of the cost of the exact same vanity at Home Depot or another home improvement store.
PROS: Fun to shop for super bargains
CONS: Some merchandise is so badly damaged I don't know why they put it out
Smith foods has an advantage over the larger chain supermarkets in that it is small and you can run in and pick up an item or two and get out very quickly. Since it is not in a shopping center, but rather has it's own parking lot, traffic is less of a hassle. I occasionally stop there to pick up an item or two that I need for the night's meal if I don't want to have to drive across town to Kroger, Publix or Ingles. The prices usually seem pretty good. On the down side, the store doesn't seem as clean and well organized as the national chain stores. The selection is more limited, though they have all the basics. And the produce doesn't always seem very fresh. They do accept manufacturer coupons.
PROS: Good for quick stops for canned goods & packaged foods
CONS: Doesn't seem very clean
My daughter attended Tallapoosa Christian Academy for approximately a year several years ago. The facility was clean and appeared well orgainzed. The staff were friendly and seemed to care about the children. I never had any problems with the staff, teachers, or the facility. My daughter seemed happy there and did not show a major change in behavior or attitude while attending there like she did when we tried a different daycare after we moved. TCA had a small town atmosphere and eventhough it wasn't as new and didn't have all the 'bells & whistles' of some other pre-schools, the children did seem well cared for and the staff seemed very capable and caring.
PROS: Caring staff, clean, positive atmosphere
CONS: Facility aging a bit, in a commercial space without a lot of outside area
... but still not perfect. Over the years that my daughter attended Carrollton Academy, we had our ups and downs. But I can say with all honesty that I feel like it was the best daycare that we experienced in Carrollton. The facilities are clean, bright, well maintained. The teachers for the most part seem caring and loving and well trained. The kids seem happy and well cared for. The meals are decent and nutritious. In the second baby room I felt as though the teacher to baby ratio was too much. The babies didn't always seem to get the individual attention they needed. In some of the 'after school' rooms the young staff members didn't seem to keep controll of the room and often let the kids run wild. But in general, the students seem to be kept involved in organized activities and the rooms seem under control ... but in a postive way ... the kids are having fun, they aren't just being forced to sit quietly. I like that the kids get outdoor time and that there is a lot of playground equipment. My daughter enjoyed the pool, but we found that the swimming 'lessons' were a joke. She learned little or nothing and grew frustrated having to sit on the side of the pool and wait her turn. Free swim time was much more enjoyable.
PROS: Nice facility, organized activities, caring atmosphere
CONS: Some staff members aren't very sincere, part-time staff sometimes apathetic
The Starting Block was highly recommended to me by several very satisfied moms whose opinions I trusted. It's almost hard to believe that the experience I had was with the same daycare as they had praised to me. My daughter's whole personality and attitude seemed to change (for the worse) during the short time she was there. She became more aggressive, angry, fussy and grumpy. Before the Starting Block she had loved to go to 'school' but once we started there she cried each morning and begged me not to have to go. The final straw was when she told me the teacher yelled at them all the time. From my observations, the children in general seemed unruley and out of control. The pre-school rooms didn't hum of activity but rather were chaotic and blaring with crying, screaming and other unpleasant noises. The facilities seemed safe and acceptably clean and reasonably well maintained, but at the same time they didn't appear bright, fresh, especially sanitary or inviting. At pick up time I found the children sitting lined up in the hall with dirty faces, dirty clothes, and many with either lunch or snack still smeared on their faces. We only last a couple of weeks at the Starting Block, and I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and take the time to see if things got better ... but as far as I could tell the 'negatives' that I observed were the 'norm' there. I don't think I was expecting too much.
PROS: Some moms seem very satisfied with it
CONS: No loving atmosphere, kids always dirty, too chaotic
Dittos is a great place to go if you need unusual copies ... larger sizes than normal, color, or special services . The staff is helpful but isn't pushy about getting lots of extras if you just need basic assistance. They can also provide web sites services and have many office supply and gift items on hand.
PROS: Helpful staff, can make very large size copies
CONS: None that I can think of ...
The service is adequate and the staff are generally friendly ... but if it weren't for the free account that I've had for over 10 years, I would probably shop around for a bank tha offered more services and 'extras' with their basic accounts. I don't really have any serious complaints, though I have experienced a few 'icey' tellers, a few long waits, and a few unexpected charges. One of the most frustrating issues for me is that the branch banks often seem understaffed during the 11-2 time frame when many of us do our banking on our lunch hour. I would think this should be a time that banks would have extra tellers ... not fewer. But for the most part, my checking and savings seems well taken care of by BB&T. My suggestion to BB&T customers ... if you have a problem with the staff at a branch bank or if you find an unexpected charge on your account, do not hesitate to call the main branch, ask for a customer service rep (or better yet, go in person) and polite ask for assistance with your concern. Each time I've done this, the matter has been resolved quickly and satisfactorily.
PROS: Lots of convenient locations, free checking through work
CONS: Low staffing during the 11-2 time-frame, occasional unexpected charges
I've used the UPS store in Carrollton several times. In general the process is simple, reasonably quick and no more expensive than going out to the actual UPS dispatch office. However, the hours of operation are better ... the UPS store is open all regular business hours whereas the other location is only open 4-7 in the evening. Also the UPS store carries extra items (packaging materials, cards, stationary, etc.) and will provide full packaging services for a fee. The staff have always been helpful and polite. But, I have found that the sincerity and warmth of the friendliness can vary greatly from one visit to the next. Everyone has a bad day, and I'm not exception, but I've received such a different 'vibe' from the same attendant in the UPS Store during different visits that it was hard to imagine it was the same person. But even then, the service was sufficient and prompt.
PROS: Convenient location & business hours, helpful staff
CONS: Atmosphere can be less welcoming than expected sometimes
When we refinanced our house a couple of years ago, I dreaded the process because our original financing had been such a hassle and the person we had dealt with was rude. Much to my relief ... dealing with New South was a complete pleasure. The staff were friendly and helpful, the service was very organized and simple, and our mortgage rate was incredible! Our broker was super to work with ... she told me what she needed ... she was thorough and organized and not at all pushy, rude, or abrupt. She never asked me for the same documents more than once and she kept me informed througout the whole process. The time it took to refinance was infinitely less than what our original financing had taken and even if it had been as long or longer, it would still have been a much more pleasant experience.
PROS: Helpful, organized, friendly brokers & staff
CONS: None that I can think of ...
Smith Brothers caters more to plumbing professionals and contractors than to individuals, but when we added a bathroom in our basement we were able to get everything we needed in one trip. Tub, toilet, sink, faucets, pipe, fittings, even a vent fan and a small wall mounted heater. The staff was helpful and friendly and the prices seemed reasonable - possibly even a bit lower than in the big home improvement warehouse type stores. The person who assisted us "Bo" even suggested items that we might need or that would make the job easier. He wasn't upselling or trying to push us to buy things we needed, but rather he shared his plumbing knowledge with us so that we didn't have to make a second trip later to get things like pipe glue and plumbers tape. THANKS BO!
PROS: Knowledgeable helpful staff
CONS: Mainly a 'contractor' type place ... gals may feel a bit out of place
